Video - Splash Mtn finale Jan 22 (all animatronics broken)

The reason why Splash can't be closed now is the same reason why we can't get holiday overlays. Well two reason, money and people's trips being "ruined." If anything, in relation to the seasonal overlays, seeing the Haunted Mansion or It's a small world's holiday version should be the perfect opportunity to convince people to come back to see the regular versions. If a person indeed lands a 'once in a lifetime trip' during that time.

If anything I think they could close it if they give a few weeks notice. Can't they do a very small 2 or 3 weeks refurbishment before it starts to get hot?

If they just increased the budget for maintenance they could hire a lot more workers and get a lot of work done after the parks close.

I took the train instead of riding Splash, so I only saw the finale. I took a video, but it's a lot harder to see what's broken than being in the log, so I'm not sure I'll upload it.

The boat was rocking, and all of the animatronics were moving... except the piano player on the upper deck, who was frozen in position. There MIGHT have been a broken chicken too, but I'm not positive.

With Thunder closed?

No way. As is, Splash was down for technical issues for a few hours last week and people were in an outrage about both being down.

Why should it matter?

People are outraged that attractions are closed? So what?

(that's about as nice as I can put it because I'd like to go on an obscenity-laced tirade about that type of 'tude)

I rode Splash on Jan. 30, and the riverboat had (only) one dead chicken.:lookaroun What bothered me more is that the "Laughing Place" scene was practically dead. Most of the fountains weren't working and the entire atmosphere was downright depressing.

I'm not saying it's right. It is however the reason.

Oh, I know you're not. I'm just tired of hearing it ... the more it gets said, the more people tend to believe something is right.

I think Yee needs to go on the attack here myself.

I am in the process of trying to talk myself into a WDW visit for the third time since the fall and am having trouble ... this from someone who once used to have three trips booked at a time.

I don't care whether you are a Spirit that has had hundreds of trips or a first-timer, you know when things are just not working like they should be.

I was on Splash this past week (wednesday I believe) and the effects were in working order again... This is the 3rd time I've seen them go out completely.. (Kevins post being the 3rd time)

Meanwhile.. The boat itself needs paint.. it wasn't repainted in last years refurb, and it's starting to show..... bad show that is

As far as taking both mountains down at once, I think they proved with the Presidents visit that they know how to divert crowds to the other parks if they need to. Capacity should not be an issue

That was one day. It's pretty easy to tell people to go to different parks on one day of their vacation. Telling them most of Frontierland is closed for their entire vacation would have a different effect. The MK is already suffering with the amount that is closed or closed off right now--serious congestion in the walkways and longer lines than the other parks. They desperately need the extra walking space and rides of the FLE/Storybook Circus.

Yeah, the MK was pretty much half theme park, half construction zone last week. I've never seen so many walls up at one time.

That's actually very encouraging.

I love to hear about construction walls and I don't mind seeing them even when I'm there, because I know it means things are improving, not decaying, for my next visit, however far off it might be. Of course, it does not take construction walls to change lightbulbs or touch up the paint on scuffed and weather-worn walls from time to time.

I'd like to believe that Walt Disney World will again someday begin paying attention to maintenance and stay ahead of the curve on upkeep. Given all that is happening with the Fantasyland expansion and others rehab projects, perhaps a page is beginning to turn, because I could easily see the suits saying to each other, "Gee, we can't take Big Thunder Mountain Railroad down right now, given how much we're spending on the expansion in Fantasyland or the destruction and remodeling near the old Skyway Chalet or the repaving in Frontierland."

The only issue I have with it, as I've stated many times before, is the length of time it takes them to get things done now. There is nothing special about the Main Street Bakery outside that it should be taking them weeks to fix up. It's simply cost cutting, and not hiring enough staff to work on projects.

If it were only that easy.

I saw the walls myself last week and, yes, there are tons of them. So in that sense it is somewhat encouraging. But as other posters just mentioned there are still some major concerns:

1. For every wall you see there are still other areas of the park that desperately need help, particularly in terms of not just maintenance but general deep cleaning and upkeep. For example, I actually thought Small World looked pretty good inside the ride, but there is nasty crud all over the queue bridge the boats go under that needs to be cleaned, and much of the white facade needs to be cleaned or repainted. Lots of carousel horses had huge scuffs and scratches, and Space Mountain looks terrible up close, from the TTA and RR, with huge sections of the structure either with mildew or peeling in guest view. Not to mention the filth and rust which is never cleaned on the upper levels of the buildings the TTA tracks passes through. And pretty much every metal railing in the park and monorail station needs to a thorough sanding and refinishing. I don't think I saw a single one that wasn't peeling.

2. The exterior refurb projects seem to take an enormous amount of time, quite possibly because of the way these projects are funded. It may also be because these structures need a more thorough refurb now due to previous deferred maintenance.

Interesting also how I noticed that while Studios, DAK, and Epcot all need help in their own ways, upkeep and cleanliness was noticeably better than at MK.
