Stitch is no pooh. Stitch is far better.
How can you say that? Winnie the Pooh has been around for over 75 years. Until Stitch reaches that kind of staying power (which I doubt he will), I don't think that statement can ever be anything close to true. Seems to me like you are basing all of your info strictly on personal opinion.

Oh good christ, I didn't say Stitch was more popular than pooh.

I posted a personal opinion that Stitch was far better than pooh. And I said I think people are getting sick of pooh, but that's just my opinion.

I'm getting ed.

It seems there is a new formula for marketing at WDW: 1.) Make it cheap 2.) Add Stitch.
Add water and stir for 10 minutes
Bake at 450 degrees for 30 minutes
Voila you have a new attraction.

I wanted to make a comment...if the attraction is supposed to be a prequel, why isn't Jumba included? He made 626, so why not? I guess that's bias talking, because Jumba is as much my favorite character as 626/Stitch. His character in the film is hilarious and it would've been nice to see him in the attraction.
I wondered the same exact thing....Jumba is great character.

Can't help being frustrated. I've spent the whole day defending myself.
If you're getting frustrated about this, you need a breather. If you feel the need to keep defending yourself, you shouldn't. Don't worry about it. Stitch or Mickey or Pooh or any character is not worth getting all bent out of shape about :).

Well, maybe Donald is worth it ;). Just kidding!

Hey you were born the day after me (same year and everything!). You're cool like me :D. Sorry, just trying to put a little light-hearted humor into this .

I love the part in the film when Stitch and Jumba fight for the laser gun or whatever and Jumba ends up winning the hot potato "Ah, I win!" LMAO.

Sorry, please continue!

I truly believe they are trying to make Stitch this generation's Mickey or Pooh. Both Mickey and Pooh have been slapped onto everything from shirts to Furniture to corporate logos. Don't get me wrong, I love everything with Mickey on it (one should see our house, oh dear), but Stitch offers a little something different than those characters, which also helps in differentiating the character from just another Disney character. He has a little more edge, but also maintains an adorable factor that people eat up. His popularity spans nearly every age group, male or female, etc.

Of course, perhaps that is taking their goal too far (that of making a new Mickey/Pooh for the 21st century), but rather it has more to provide something to balance the whole Princess craze. Not to be sexist, but Stitch provides something for all the little boys that the Princess craze gives little girls. They can associate with him better and is another reason why he, like the Princesses, are being marketed to death....people love them.

Stitch IS a very popular character. To argue against that would be a very difficult debate to win. But by keeping him in the limelight (even though it seems a little excessive at times) helps to insure he remains popular....much like Mickey or Pooh.

Stitchfan712, no one here is trying argue with you. We are simply stating that Disney made a poor/cheap attempt at this attraction and they are currnetly overhyping the charater. Like they do with anything remotely popular.

From what I can tell most people are saying that if they made a few minor adjustments the ride would be great.

So just relax and take a breather. Everyone has their own opinion, some may disagree with you, and if they do, fine! Just don't let it get under your skin okay? If you do you'll just end up going nuts. :hammer: :D

Every time I see Stitch somewhere...the osbourne lights, the monorail, the logos, the character breakfasts, the meet n' greets, I am reminded of how, not too long ago, there was almost nothing out there for this character that I love.

That must have been about the first five minutes after the movie came out.

Seriously, Stitch was put on the marketing fast track almost instantaneously. I know that you have a deep-seated affection for the character, and so from your perspective, maybe having to wait a few months for Disney to start putting his face on everything might have seemed like a while.

I remember seeing L&S in the summer of '02 before going to Orlando for my CP and by that Christmas, he was lording over the MGM entrance and showing up in merchandise everywhere. For a 6-month-old character to have that kind of presence is pretty notable.

Okay... I'm not the only one thinking that Stitch never really had a down period...

Well, my only experiences during the time when the movie came out was in DLR and my local, now closed, disney store in SLC.

Being at Stitch fan at DLR was like being a drowning man dying of thirst there for a while. There was a few plushies, a few pins, and a figurine box, and lots of baby and little kid T-shirts, but that was it.

At the disney store i was so frustrated with the lack of an adult T-shirt that I went ahead and bought a bunch of toddler Stitch t-shirts.

It wasn't long after before the first adult Stitch shirts came out. And yes, Disney's arm was indeed twisted before that occured.

WDW may have seen much more stitch than was seen in the western US though. At present, Stitch has invaded WDW far more than DL. That's why I love WDW so much, among other reasons.

I don't see why you need to defend *yourself*. I know you relate to Stitch personally, and it appears to me that your interpreting all the criticisms of Stitch to be a criticism of yourself. As a result, the overwhelming quantity of your posts on the subject makes it seem like you're taking any dissenting opinion as a personal attack, and you really shouldn't. You should think of it as defending your opinions. People generally respect others opinions around here, and we should all just agree to disagree :). Relax, and don't worry about nitpicking the nitpickers :) Just my 2 cents.

I think that the new SGE "marketing attraction" is just plain pathetic. But rather than being disgusted with Disney "management" for spitting on our brains, we are bickering over this decent character that is being milked dry by the greed of current management. Putting as little as they can into a product and trying to squeeze tons of $ out of. Do we blame Figment for the unimaginative JIYI?
