Upcoming/Rumored Projects

Ummmm....I disagree.
The Theatre is at the end of "Main St", positioned to be it's weenie.
The Earful Tower was meant to be the parks icon. It just didn't turn out that way, since it's hard to see/photograph from inside the park. Since the theatre wasn't looked at as an icon, they didn't hesitate to block it with the hat, at least temporarily.
They wouldn't block the castle, Tree of Life or SSE with a hat. Them being the park icons.
So sayeth WDI guys I have talked to about it, dating back 5 or 6 years ago.

Maybe with the taking down of the hat they are going to give us a NEW icon...no clue what it would be though

I didn't see any walls up Saturday at MK.

Maybe that's for in December.

Same here. If construction walls were up then I think someone may have already posted them. Hey, but wait, where would the construction walls be? I know Dumbo would have some but IDK about it getting em now, same with Ariel's Grotto, same with the teacups(new ceiling), I know Pooh should be getting some construction here and there... IDK.

The representatives who were I believe interviewed during Disney's Hollywood Studios' 20th Anniversary events in fact did say that they knew we hated the hat and then they went on to say something that did hint the removal of the hat.
Indeed, they did.
I say move the water tower to the entrance, remove the hat and be done with it.
I would like that too, but it's unlikely.

Also...I would miss seeing it from the drive in.:lol:

It's my first Disney memory, as a matter of fact....Crying my head off, because I thought we were LEAVING the second we passed it.

I don't know (or really care) what Disney said the icon of MGM was, to me I always thought it was the theater. You saw the tower coming in, but once you were in the park the theater seemed to be the icon.

Once the Backlot Tour is gone (it is on the chopping block for the next few years, right?) the earfull tower cannot be seen by normal guests.... so where would they put it?

The Theater never was, and never will be the icon. It is merely the weenie for the park.

The Icon was the Earful Tower, until they put up the hat in 2001.

And YES, the Icon and the Weenie can be two separate things. Yep! :) Things look positive on this front.

I still think the theater SHOULD be the icon to the park. It's much more impressive and visible than the Earful Tower ever was... and the Earful Tower probably gets even less attention now than it ever did, considering the much-reduced studio tour. Plus, I think having the Chinese Theater as the icon replacing the Earful Tower would better reflect the park's change in focus from a working studio to an idealized Hollywood.

Just sayin'.

I think that it could actually be a great part of the park if the gave it a huge refurb and made it more like they do at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Well, if it were that, or room for a new type of ride. I think I'll go with the second one. They could maybe extend that area to become Pixar land along with Pixar Place.

One of the things nobody seems to have info on is the refurbishment to Flights of Wonder. I saw it in March, and I'll see it again in a few days (either 11/26, 11/28 or 12/2). I'm guessing Dugg and Kevin were not added, but their still may have been some changes made.

I think the DHS symbol should be this, replace the MGM with DHS and put the Earful Tower in the Backround and maybe make the theater a bit more prominent.
