Two Spirited Quickees...Imagination closing

Interesting that Imagination would be closed for 18 months. That puts a reopening around summer 2015 when Pixar's Inside Out is released. It's described as being about "the inside of a girl's mind"

Disney changing a pavilion that is supposed to operate for decades to a theme for a movie that isn't even out yet? Let alone proven? I put that probability of that at... minus infinity :)

Let me guess, Disney Hollywood Adventure?

Maybe it's just me, but I still fail to see how this solves the Studios' identity crisis. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy the park is getting some love and that new attractions are coming, but thematically, at least from what we know at this time, this park is still going to be a jumbled mess. I just don't understand Disney's desire to transform every single park at WDW into MK-lite, which is precisely what seems to be happening here. I for one am really going to miss the studio theme, regardless of whether production still takes place at the park or not. It was fun pretending to be standing on a "hot set".

While we're on the topic of theme, what on earth does Monsters Inc have to do with CA? (and no, just because Pixar happens to be headquartered in CA does not mean it belongs in DCA). Isn't it enough of a stretch to claim Carsland represents CA car culture? I guess now we're supposed to accept that MI is a blockbuster film so it belongs in a land about movies? Gah! What a thematic nightmare...

DCA has lost much of its California theme. It really should be renamed Iger's IP Adventure located in California. They really should have never built a park about California, in California, visited by mostly Californian's.

Well i am late to the party...( again...)...but good to hear that this is finally moving forward.
About time too, although i will admit i am feeling hesitant about 'celebrating' just yet.
I would like to learn more about what i actually supposed to take place and on what kind of scale.

Part of me sees this as a good sign....but the scales are weighing more towards being cautiously optimistic.
If certain people were still within WDI i think i would feel better about this...but i am open to seeing what might transpire with the newbies.
They need a time to shine, too....maybe they can freshen up this stale Pavillion.
Lord knows it needs it, and has for several years now.

Gut it and start fresh, but keep Figment around in some cohesive form.
---NO franchises! -----
Keep it franchise-free please.

All these bogus rumors about Dr. Doof and other such nonsense need to stop.
Imagination does NOT need a franchise to support a attraction.

I for one will be extremely dissapointed if they go that route, and it will prove that they indeed have absolutely no creative ambition left within themselves to execute a decent, IMAGINATIVE experience without relying on the 'easy way' out.
Yeah I know... the big wigs like to push whatever the popular IP is of the day forward and such projects usually get a better chance of actually happening, but the Imagination Pavillion needs to be special again and not just another exercise in 'brand synergy'.
Save that crap for other Parks....like DHS.

Keeping Figment around should be a must. He is too beloved by the masses to ditch.
They tried that once already...and I would like to think Disney learned from their past mistake of removing his presence from the Pavillion back in the late 90s.
Fans came down hard on them...and they responded pretty quickly.
I am not ashamed to say i was rather vocal with CMs back then and it was clear i was not the first one to express dissapointment.

Vs. 3 was far better the Vs.2....but nothing will ever top the Original.
I am ready for a Vs. 4.
There has been so much behind-the-scene talk over the years about folks at WDI dying to get back in there and 'fix' things.
I hope this is indeed the 'big fix'....but again, part of me is not jumping for joy just yet.
Must learn more about what is happening first.

I would like to be surprised in a good way when the place re-opens next year.
Keep it original, keep it imaginative, and keep it colorful. Oh...and keep Figment.

Just DON'T change the music in the restrooms...dammit!
:p

They were in talks with potential sponsors last year or so that fell through, Im just wondering if they locked in a deal with one now that plans are moving forward. For Disney to pay in full on an entire pavilion redo is a miracle these days (tho they did with the seas), but with the rumor of the track being extended sounding more likely, sounds like some serious dough is coming from somewhere. But it sure is about time! Altho I wont rest easy until wdw1974 says this has nothing to do with the PF rumors, hoping this is not another cartoon preschool makeover....oh happy birthday wdw1974.

PS: I think we need a seperate Imagination thread now.

We all know what happens when something is done "temporarily" at WDW.

If the only options are Phineas and Ferb or an unreleased Pixar film that sounds ambitious and thematically on-point, I will gladly take the Pixar film.

I think it would be a bold move to base the refurbishment on an unreleased film, but if anything is a safe bet, it's Pixar, especially when creating original material. It's not unprecedented.

Obviously, I'd rather the pavilion attempt something with Figment (and Dreamfinder), but if that's outside of the realm of possibilities, I'll take Pixar--supposed "theme" of Future World be damned.

As much as I hate to admit this, I'm sort of "over" Figment, anyway. Years of painfully watching the bastardized version of that character have worn on me. My enthusiasm could be rekindled with an amazing Version 4, but if it's going to be anything short of an amazing use of the character, I'd just as soon see something totally different.

I agree with you. That was my only critisism of DCA. The theming doesn't fit. But I don't know how in the world to make it fit. I would change the name of the park. It's losing it's CA theme. It never made sense because they are all from CA so why do they need a park based off of where they live? Same reason I wouldn't want an America theme park in DC. We have too many of those around here as it is.

But Carsland is amazing.

I get what you're saying, but I think the argument could be made that the real problem with DCA 1.0 is that it took place in the present. A park that's about California's past in California isn't the worst idea, and it seems the initial plan for DCA 2.0 was just that. As of right now, the theme fits the park fine. Carsland is a stretch, but it works, I think. Monsters Inc really cannot be made to fit the theme...well, at the very least I can't figure out how to make it fit, maybe Disney can though.
It's just frustrating. There are lots of interesting things that could be done in the Hollywood Backlot, particularly if the Studio theme were dropped and the entire area were made to look like 1940's Hollywood/Echo Lake at DHS. Or better yet, how about a version of Walt's Hyperion Studios idea pitched for DHS 20 years ago? And haven't all of the original Brown Derbys closed? Seems like the perfect way to bring the restaurant back to CA...

It is - it has a monster queue and a huge capacity. It's busy all day.. and is 'unique' in that it gives the young people the ability to be in control and 'drive'.

Is it dated? Certainly - but is it forgotten? Hell no.

Sure, the queue is huge but it's really not that popular. I never said it was forgotten, but it doesn't have the status of Pirates, Mansion, Pan and a few others. Just the last time I went on last month, we almost went all the way up to the screening room without stopping. Autopia is a classic, in that it's one of the opening day rides that still stands. But it's not the classics like Mansion and Pirates, where it's heavily praised, very popular amongst the fans and well loved, all around.

If the Mouse Arrest band gives info on what attractions you do, they'll sell that to whoever sponsors that 'experience' so you and your under 13yr old children won't just get hammered with Mouse Spam, you'll get it from their 'partners' as well... My theory is, if MM+ gets off the ground, we'll see more, not less, sponsors.
