TTA and other Space Mountain rehab issues

I am happy to hear that the TTA (nay, the WEDWay People Mover) might be getting some TLC. I just hope they keep the narration...it's brilliant.

TTA is an amazing, underrated attraction that gets me in the Disney 'mood' every time. Even just thinking about it, or listening to the audio gets me in the mood.

I can't wait to see what they do with Space Mountain. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I'll miss the rickety and old-school feel, but I'm sure it's time for an upgrade. I hope they can keep the same retro feel somehow. (the unload is in a carpeted room, how awesome!)

Isn't this a bit premature.....is there even official news that Space would even be down? January 2009 (the rumored begin timeframe) isn't too far off and still nothing.....we were hearing about the Space Mountain DL Rehabs officially for a while before they went down. For the record, I went to DL three times while the DL SM was down including the time during the BTM closure, etc and now.... I knew they were closed so it wasn't too much of a disappointment and I do enjoy the new revamped and vastly superior Space Mountain every single time I visit. Close down whatever they need to improve the parks because once they are done, the park will be all the better for it.

I too am one that hopes TTA will get some tunnel love TLC. Especially in the model area of the "City of tomorrow". WOW, that thing needs help. If I remember correctly, some of the floor in that model was peeling up last time I rode it.

What? DL's Space Mountain went down immediately and overnight, without warning, months ahead of when it was scheduled to go down. There was no official word way in advance of it's shut down.

While I agree that they should announce WDW's SM refurb ASAP (because there may be some people that want to alter vacation plans one way or the other because of it), I don't think it should be compared to the way they handled DL's. That was an emergency shut down due to it being declared unsafe. WDW's isn't at that point. YET. :lookaroun

Also, I would think they could be advertising the heck out of this ahead of time to get crowds in for the remainder of the year. "Ride the classic before it goes away for a while!" kind of promotion. I'd bet it could help attendance, if even by a marginal amount. I'm not sure why they haven't thought of it.

Officially, as in press release? Not yet.

As said above, SM in DLC closed in a few hours. Literally. CMs showed up to open it only to be redeployed. That`s why it was 2 year refurb. The new track wasn`t even ordered, let alone ready.

I'm glad I got my fair share of riding Space Mountain this week as 18-24 months is going to be a long wait!...I did ask some cast members working at the attraction and none really seemed to have much information about the refurbishment. On my last trip it seemed to me that the cast members were generally less informed than in years past.

I guess my concern over the TTA is that they might try to change it if it has to go down ...i.e. Rocket Rods or just let it die without trying to replace it...18 months is along time to let it sit. I'm usually not this attached to attractions but I can't go to the MK and not ride the TTA my kids will flip out! Trying to get them hooked on Splash and Big Thunder now.

Well, I also love the People Mover, and it is a must ride for me every time. To me I think it and Space Mountain are the two iconic "must ride" attractions in Tomorrowland. I'm also confident that the Space Mountain rehab will be great, much like the "like Disneyland's rehab, only better" kind of rehab that the Haunted Mansion got last year.

And I believe that Disney learned very well NOT to repeat the Rocket Rods mistake, so I am sure we'll see a plussed, but otherwise un-screwed with People Mover.

I'm excited

I'm very glad we're finally up for a refurb, we've waited quite a long time. It would be nice for the TTA to get some TLC as well. I really wish all of tomorrowland could be re-imagined. I love pixar, but not in Tomorrowland. I can dream. Either way, I'm happy we are getting a new space mountain, I hope they go all out.

I really think they could capitalize on the TTA. If they added some cool elaborate scenes with an AA or two, and some sweet special effects (like cool lazers above you in those dark halls with fog, or some nice sound illusions, maybe even an AE throwback) It could be so much better. I have always liked it a lot, It just seems like they didn't get enough funds to finish it. The alien salon just doesn't do it for me.

Us Disney nerds know it's a really fun ride, but most guests don't even know it's there. They need a really big, attractive looking entrance that catches your eye. They could really make it an awesome E ticket ride easily. Keep the same Metro motif, spruce up a few scenes, and bam! a "New" E ticket. Even if they added an enclosed section (maybe enclose a non enclosed area of track, or add track) they could have more room for a cool scene. Like the AA robot on the beginning of stitch (aka SIR). As long as it stays fun, it would be "Crazy Delicious". and as long as it's not too overwhelming.

Not to criticize your idea kingly, it's very original and could work if they brought the Peoplemover back for DL, but the TTA has a simple storyline regarding transportation and shouldn't be changed one bit. I agree with you on the fact that Pixar does not belong to Tomorrowland. Why not just remove SGE and add a new attraction that will enhance the feeling of Tomorrowland. TTA simply needs a new narration, re-painting and maybe some additional lighting. Space Mountain really needs the rehab unless they will put touch screens in the carts.
