Tropical Storm Faye...

i dont think youll have much to worry about from the looks of it its going to be more towards the tampa bay area even if it does go thru orlando,by the time it does itll have weakened drastically from the time it spent over land so it would probably just be a large unusually strong thunderstorm

I don't think it will weaken that much over 80 miles. I'm not a meteorologist, but I remember Charley, Orlando got punched hard and that storm came ashore further south than Tampa.

I don't think it will be as bad as Charley, I hope not, especially now that I'm a homeowner in Orlando, but it will still be a pretty cruddy day!

I'm sure that if I was a Florida homeowner I'd have a different opinion... but as a weather enthusiast, I may actually be looking forward to this. :lookaroun

NWS map shows it most likely, at this point, tracking north to Port Charlotte and then the Tampa/St. Pete area.

I was there for Hurricane Jeanne..wasn't too bad thought the parks were closed. The resorts did things to keep kids occupied and we got to rest and relax for the rest of our trip.

big difference in intensity too charley was a cat 3 hurricane this will be a minimal cat 1 at best and if i remember correctly charley was a pretty fast mover as well as where fay is like 14-15 mph

As others have posted, prepare for a rainy day at the parks, but don't worry about your safety.

I'm prepared for a couple of rainy days, but don't expect anything worse than that. ;)

I was in disney in August of 2004 when hurricane Charlie came through. The parks were open in the morning from 9-noon and then closed. We were staying at the carribean beach and got to experience 90 mph sustained winds that came through that night. Surprisingly all of the parks were open the next morning and there was little damage done to the parks.

I am in the tampa area this week trying to enjoy my vacation. It would figure that I would be here when another hurricane comes through. This will be 2 in the last four trips to florida...

I lived/worked the Charley & Ivan - wasn't that bad

Ivan hit way away from Florida, it stalled over the South in some places right after Frances. It was not pretty, 20 inches of rain twice within a couple of weeks. Gave me a huge fear and respect for water to say the least.
Hoping everyone stays safe and the forecast clears.

I certainly hope it doesn't take the green line...that's right where I live. Crazy how all the others are kind of similar then there's this one out in left field right where I live... I actually won't be home though, we'll be traveling home back to Oregon...WAAAAAAAAY far away from any hurricane track.

That green line is what we call the No gaps(NGPS) and that is the one that has more consistently been on the money when predicting a hurricane path in recent years.
My son who surfs watches a sight for wave heights on a regular basis. It usually is pretty accurate and should give a good indication of which way the storm is heading. Hopefully this is the right link to get to the maps for next week.

Ivan hit way away from Florida,>>>>>

Not really. It came in at GulfPort, AL; but the worst of the storm was the East side of it which really tore up the panhandle of Floridaa before going inland through Ga. Then it came out over the Atlantic and part of it somehow headed South again and came across the state dropping rain with some wind gusts. It went across the state mostly as rain. Got in the Gulf and became a tropical depression again and went into Texas.

I sat out Tropical Storm Ivan in the Atlanta airport. You could not see the tarmmac out the windows and the airport was closed for over 7 hours. The roof was leaking all over the place. We ended up flying on the first plane that took off. Then I sat and watched its remnant of rain and 30 mph winds again later that week from my home here on the coast of Florida.

That was definitely a year we won't forget. LOL Never want to see another one like that.

As for Fay? Nothing to worry about yet. Always good to check on supplies and get your important papers ready and secure, get the pictures or video of your home and its contents out and see if you've added stuff over the last year, make sure you have the shutters for all windows, know what your plan is if you have to live without electricity for a while, etc. etc. Then you will be ready for Sept. and Oct. and not have to be out in the mass rush to get supplies.

I am hoping for the green line, but thinking that I am not going to be so lucky. This will be my first hurricane/tropical storm as a resident of Florida. I also have my final walk through for my new townhouse scheduled for Tuesday, which is the proposed date of impact. :brick:

I'll take the GFDL line, thank you. :lookaroun
I'm with you :) That one keeps most people (except for south Fl.) on the "dry" side and that green one goes right over me.

Ivan was still a weak cat. 1 when the eye came right over us.
