It’s pre-opening ceremony. And can open and close more easily at their will… It's really not a soft opening except in name.

The other choice is? Open up the line and let you "fight" with the masses and stand in line for numerous hours, for a soft open on a ride not guaranteed to be open? Honestly, not combative, what is a better form of soft open you have proposed?

I think there’s something fitting about the original Space Mountain being next to Tron.Mystic Manor would feel right at home if they could find some way to work it into Adventureland or someplace similar (Asia in Animal Kingdom? The ride does have an animal star). It wouldn't feel right next to Haunted Mansion anyways since that's in Liberty Square.
Conversely, TRON and Space Mountain look gorgeous next to each other.

To @lazyboy97o's point; TRON was absolutely designed to be a different park's "Space Mountain". I believe the Imagineers/Disney have said so explicitly so to say anything otherwise would be silly. Still, the experiences are different enough and they look so good together (imho) that I really don't see an issue with it.
Being a big white structure in Tomorrowland that houses a roller coaster of some kind is where comparisons end for me. -and in this instance again, they look so nice next to each other that I could probably stand there all night taking in the sights I've been seeing online.

I feel like they shouldn't be selling LL if it is a soft opening since they can close it at any time. Just do the free booking groups until opening day. IMHO.

Disney is currently testing something in the VQ backend. Most notably there's 2 VQ objects with names "TESTING - DO NOT USE - EPCOT PARK ENTRY REQUIRED" and "TESTING - DO NOT USE - NO RESTRICTIONS":
Thought this could be for Tron in a few days, but the Epcot name is kind of weird..

Probably functionality to allow for 2 VQs as GotG is still going to be VQ.

I mean that's not new functionality. There have been instances in the past when there were 2 (maybe 3) simultaneous virtual queues. Like the Santa M&G at Disney Springs, AP Passholder Magnet distribution, Figment popcorn bucket, etc.

It appears to be tweaking group options for Monday nights at Epcot and which queues you'd be eligible for. Of course this is the same stuff they would use for Tron, so could be quick ugly copy. Hard to say for sure

We can be sure of only one thing: they will mess up the coding on this.
While you hacktivists are in there, though, can you update the code to make it so that anyone who doesn’t get a VQ will get a Mickey pretzel instead. Start small and we can progress from there.

Exactly, they meant it to be an iconic attraction as Space Mountain has been.
It's not the view that concerns me the most. It is how long they continue to force guests off on the Barnstormer side and not allow us to leave on the Space Mountain side.
Where they are focing us to leave Tron for the preview is a kids area many guests never even venture into unless they have younger kids and it was very busy tight and crowded before Tron. We mostly avoided the area. Once in awhile we would jump the train right there(not for years of course), but seeing how cramped, busy and filled with younger kids it was as our kids aged we tended to stay away.
Now with up to 20,000 Tron guests a day coming off the ride it just adds to the mayhem of what I consider a younger guest family area now getting filled with an older guest Tron traffic.
A few CM said both areas would be allowed for the off traffic, some said for the time being that there will be only the one way off. I am hoping they allow both areas to be used and split those people coming of the ride. In any case that kids areas need be expanded now more than ever.

Because it's open to everyone using VQ between 3/23 to 4/3 before the official open on 4/4. Hence "soft opening." These are not AP previews.

They originally said it would open “in time for the 50th anniversary” and now they seem determined to make sure the official opening doesn’t fall within that. They are trying so hard to be wrong!!

Yes, but the proper term for what is going on starting 3/23 is "the ride is open". Soft openings are stuff like it opens spontaneously without warning and you might get lucky to go on - but they are having people do a virtual queue instead and apparently offering paid rides. That's not really consistent with what would be considered a "soft opening"

I agree it is the less common spelling, but it isn’t a misspelling or in any way erroneous.
The US government is inconsistent in its usage -- they spell it archaeology in places as well: https://careers.doi.gov/occupational-series/archaeology (and they actually spell it both ways in the text on that page, which is just... bizarre. Pick one!)-- but regardless I do consider it erroneous in the context of the sign (I wouldn't have called it out as a misspelling if someone had just written it in a post here).
Inn my experience you'd be unlikely to see anyone involved in the field (even tangentially as opposed to an actual professional archaeologist) spell it that way even today, much less in the 1930s or 1940s, which is presumably the sign's intended era.
Admittedly I did not clarify the specific context of the sign in my original comment.

Soft opening means you are not assured you will ride even after getting in line, after open you can have some expectation of riding, it may go down for any reason at any time. This close and with as long as it took to open I would be surprised to see any downtime.

It was actually among American archaeologists in the mid-twentieth century that the variant form gained ground (this was also the era in which the Chicago Tribune was using “thru” for “through”), so if there’s any attraction for which the A-less spelling is appropriate, it’s Indiana Jones.
That said, I very much doubt this is the level on which Disney was thinking.
