I really hope they replace the slinky dog ride... even if it's for a Buzz Lightyear Dumbo-style spinner or something. The slinky dog ride just seems so terrible and way too carnival-esque. It's a copy of Heimlich's chew chew if i'm not mistaken, correct?
It' different then Heimlich's Chew Chew. Heimlich goes on a little winding path like a mini train ride. Slinky Dog goes up and down in a circle

I find the whole "family" ride versus "kiddie" thing to be kind of silly, lol. Cedar Point, which is arguably the largest thrill park in world, describes their entire "kiddie" section as *family* rides, the terminology is interchangeable for most people and not a big deal. So, I will continue to refer to them as family rides. https://www.cedarpoint.com/things-to-do/family-rides

And yes, I tempered my expectations because I have heard about Carsland & StarWarsland and something about a Monsters Inc roller coaster -- never in a million years would I have guessed TSPL. But, I think it's so cute and children, families and majority of people are going to love it. The timeline bothers me more than anything else, because I think it will be around 2020 before we see anything Star Wars. Iger was very careful to note a "strong presence" in Disney Parks and that can mean anything.

Disney tends to be reactive instead of proactive these days. The New Fantasyland was supposed to be a Pixie Hollow meet and greet. The only reason we have 7DMT, BOG, StoryBook Circus, ETWB, The Little Mermaid and plans for Avatarland is because it was in response to Harry Potter.

Diagon Alley, Tranformers, Simpsons expansion, and Despicable Me really didn't shatter Disney like everyone claimed it would. So, I don't find it unreasonable to temper my expectations given the current track record.

With that said, I am very excited about Avatarland!

Wow, so it basically doesn't even go anywhere and it truly is built out of a carnival ride system. Most of the time I think people are being very hyperbolic when saying that, but this is the worst ride i've seen in any Disney park.

I'd actually rather the Green Army Men parachute drop ride come than this piece of crap.

I completely agree that the actual rides from Toy Story Playland would be welcome. I'm not sure about the theme. Can we get more Pixar properties involved to make it more of a Pixar Playland? I really am most concerned about capacity. Some of these attractions are not exactly people eaters. Hopefully additional high capacity family attractions can join the roster to help spread those crowds out. Can you imagine waiting 50 minutes for these flats? At the current DHS and with it being a new land, I can see it happening.
Agreed with this as well. With a significant unknown about the theme, I'd likely prefer Junkyard Jamboree than the Woody themed version of the attraction. I could also see the Soldier parachute ride rethemed to a similarly attraction using the house from Up.

Well my 3 year old watched the video of the slinky dog and he wants to ride it. So there is your target audience. Rides like this are fine as long as you have a park that has plenty of other rides so the lines aren't crazy. A 20 minute wait or less is great for a little ride like this. But the way DHS is now a ride like this will get a crazy long line.

Yeah, but waiting 20-30 minutes so that your 3 year old can have a blast, while most parents will be fine with it as they'll come off happy, isn't as satisfying as a darkride where the whole family gets to enjoy the experience.

Let's not confuse a land designed for kids as being a family friendly area. Toy Story Mania is a family friendly ride. That's not true of Toy Story Playland.
Exactly. However, I don't think TSPL coming to DHS is the worst thing in the world like many on here apparently do. As long as it's only the first phase of the expansion, then i'm completely fine with it.

I see 3 different phases happening:
- TSPL
- Pixar D/E (along with a possible restuarant, possibly Flo's)
- Park refresh/attraction refurbs & updates/Star Wars Land

The terms are not interchangeable, but are used so because it is better to sell something as a family ride versus a kiddie ride. Anytime you see people talking about how they love to ride because their kids love to ride, then it is a kiddie ride. Vicarious enjoyment is the hallmark of a kiddie ride and the very sort of thing Disneyland rejected.

I don't post much here, but I read. People complain about DHS not having enough for families, small children etc. I can only assume this is how that will be addressed. Not every ride can be a $150 million dollar spectacular, and small children seem the easiest to please, so let them have the 'carnival rides.' If these rides satisfy the kidlets and eat some of the TSMM crowd, plus allow DHS to do more on the big kid side, then I'm all for it! :)

I like Family oriented rides, this is a nice kiddie land, not exactly what the park needed, but you know, the use of space in this tiny park is baffling at this point. I'm sure kids will love it though.

I don't ever, ever remember hearing anyone say those UNI attractions would shatter Disney. They needed to build up their park and they have been in spectacular fashion. I do find it interesting how both parks utilize space though.

My thoughts:

-I'm all for a Mater's ride at HS, but would be sad to see it themed to Toy Story. I think theming the whole area to Toy Story is a misstep, why not include other movies? So they can say it's immersive like Harry Potter? Mater's would be an easy way to represent Cars and the design is already done. I'm still holding out that we get Toy Story play land and a Cars "land" that has Mater's, a RSR type ride (okay with no outdoor portion), shops, and dining. I'd be okay with that.

-For those who complain about these being kiddie rides and cheap: take off your adult glasses and try to imagine riding these with your small child. They would love these! Yes, Haunted Mansion and Pirates can be enjoyed by all too, but what the studios always lacked was a variety of rides for all ages. This is a step in the right direction.

I just wonder when we will hear something...

What I find interesting in all this is that some of us have lowered expectations so much as to call this expansion needed because these are "family" rides. These rides are NOT family rides. PotC, Haunted Mansion, FL dark rides, TTA, Voyage of Sinbad etc etc. Those are family rides. This expansion is for the kiddies, and quite frankly, lazy. Lets hope they're saving the best for last and that it's a bit more impressive than NFL's anchor ride. :)

This sums up my thoughts about TSPL quite nicely, especially the the lazy part. I've definitely learned to temper my expectations in hopes that I'll be pleasantly surprised when all is said and done.

On our last one week trip to WDW in 2013 we didn't even step foot in DHS. TSPL defintely won't be what drives us back there. By the time any of this opens I'm guessing WDW will have completely lost me as a customer anyway so it really shouldn't matter that much to me. I'm already almost there after skipping WDW this year to go to DLR and will be skipping it again next year to go to UNI.
