Is it really? The movie is a fan favourite that consistently gets good ratings on ABC Family broadcasts and has no problem selling home video units every fall with little to no effort on Disney's part.
Throwing the 3 witches into the existing castle show isn't exactly a major investment and it gets the core party audience all excited. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.
I agree with you but I do find it surprising. I've always liked it and I like the tie-in. But would it really be what springs to mind? I know it's grown in cult popularity over the years and I'm glad they're acknowledging it. But I am surprise because to the overall picture of the brand it's not exactly something I'd expect them to go to.
