I find it increasigly annoying that you get guys walking round the parks with their tops or t shirts off baring their chests. I personally do not want to see their bellys hanging over their shorts or the latest tattoo's of their girlfreinds names:dazzle:!

Do CM's have the right to tell people to put them back on?

The worst thiing is it is usually the brits I have seen with their t shirts off. Must be a british thing:shrug:

am I the only one that dislikes this?

I'm a Brit and my top stays on! How do you know they are Brit's? Maybe with the American economy going down the toilet making the exchange rate so good for us more of the scumbags are visiting Orlando as it's almost as cheap as going to Spain. Soon you will see Britain's version of trailer trash all over the parks!
I think tops should be kept on everywhere except the water-parks and CM's should tell people to get them back on.

Thankfully we won't see loads of Greasy Spoons, Chippys and English Pubs appear everywhere as it's not as easy to move to as Spain but I notice more chavs making there way over to Orlando. It's one of the reasons I now would rather fly indirect than take a charter flight as they are full of people who look like they should have got on the Benidorm flight. The tops off is usually the start, if people can not respect that doing that is not acceptable they clearly have no idea of what is acceptable and what isn't.

Tops are required

Men as well as women are required to wear "reasonable top wear." CM's have the right and are supposed to enforce this attire rule. Provocative wear or lack of it is NOT appropriate in any of the theme parks.:brick:

Im afraid that your average tattooed @*^k wit would have a clue what appropriate meant far less what it was. And I guarantee that if they did they still wouldn't care.

The sun is a novelty for the average brit and is associated with cheap beach holidays in Spain so they dress accordingly. Its either that or wear nylon football shirts made in some third world sweat shop.

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
The same could be said for women and their short shirts with their gut hanging out... and their shorts down quarter of the way down their crack. I dont want to see their trashy 'tramp stamp'. I've seen that at the parks to. Classy.

I was going to post a separate thread about this, but I think I'll hide it in this one.

As a CM, I thought it was my duty to enforce the no barefeet, no heelies, no smoking, wear tops, not too much cleavage, no smoking, rules and pick up trash.

I have gotten in trouble for asking a woman to pull up her top.

I have gotten in trouble for asking a mother to put shoes on her child before visiting a character.

I informed a man that where he was smoking was not a smoking area. He put out his cigarette on his tongue and stuffed it in his mouth. I ask another to put his cigarette out. He threw it at my feet.

I tried to aleviate the grumpy mood of some guests by being light hearted with them and engaging them in conversation about the best parts of their trip. I tried to make children less bored while waiting. I got in trouble for not getting to the task at hand.

What is standard operating proceedure at one park is not allowed at other parks. What management at one park says is ok is grounds for witness statements at other parks.

Going above and beyond is only for those in management because it makes them feel good and look good. The rest of us are wasting time and shirking our duties.

So, to sum this all up, you are now free to rollerskate through the 'world' naked. You are now free to walk barefoot through the parks and step on pins that have fallen off lanyards. And unless I can smell it, you can smoke all you want. The trash can all stay on the ground. The most frustrating is when you try to enforce the rules or do your job and your fellow cast members act upset that you are doing it. Then, above and beyond gets you no bonus points on your end of the year evaluation and thus no more money than if you had slacked off like everyone else. What is the point.

I'm done with above and beyond unless I feel like it and you aren't a grumpy guest.

The management at my new park has depleted my supply of pixie dust.

And to add insult to injury someone from this forum is probably rushing to email this to one of your superiors in the hopes of getting you fired!

As I've said before, this is a cultural thing. People are becoming more lazy in their attire as well as their mentality.

If I can borrow some pictures from Werner Weiss' Yesterland website...
1950s park dress:

And 2000s park dress:

It is a cultural issue, one not easily solved.

Gorjus it's bad that you are being treated like that. Standards need to be set and enforced across the parks to ensure consistency. If I saw someone have a go at a CM because they were being pulled for doing wrong my conscience would get the better of me and I would have to pass comment to stand up for the CM. At the end of the day standards seem to have eroded to the point of not existing with the way some people behave.
As for the pictures above I would love to live in 50's America everything I see and read about it seems to be appealing, of course there was a dark side to some parts of life then but life seemed more exciting and people didn't expect to get what they wanted but looked forward to things. Anyway I am waffling.

I understand how you feel.

I work for The Disney Store and back in 2002 (when we were still owned by Disney) I received CM of the quarter and my name went on a plaque backstage. I worked by myself with one other manager for months and did everything above and beyond what I was suposed to. When it came time for my yearly evaluation with the new store manager she had many nice things to say about me. But out of 10 points she only gave me 8, simply because "no one is perfect."

This mad me so mad because my raise counted on those points. She hadn't even been there for a month when I had my evaluation and she came from outside of the company so she barely even knew Disney standards. She was probably the most rude manager I've even been in contact with and now she works at the Home Base office. But not for long since Disney is buying back the stores. Haha. :p

I'm sorry you got in trouble for trying to make my vacation better. I truly appreciate everything you guys do to try and make people follow the rules.Maybe the rest of us need to help you guys out and start speaking up too when we someone doing something they shouldn't or writing letters to management maybe then you guys wouldn't be taking so much heat. The rest of us do Thank You for doing a good job.:)

Sadly, you are probably correct.

If I saw someone have a go at a CM because they were being pulled for doing wrong my conscience would get the better of me and I would have to pass comment to stand up for the CM.

Thank you so much. Sadly, you probably would never see it. The discipline usually happens hours later like so:

Manager (M): Before you get an assignment, I need to borrow you for a minute.
Cast Member (CM): "sure" as you are pulled into an office and the door is closed and you see a blank witness statement on the desk.
M: what happened at XXX? Or a guest approached me at XXX and said this. Or another cast member said you did this.
CM: tells their side of the story. (thinking at the time of the incident, oh well, something happened, life is not perfect, let's move on and try to get along better/do better next time.)
M: well the other person says this.( someone who obviously did not think it was time to move on and try again next time)......relates other side of story.
CM: Yes, that is what happened. I thought it was my responsibility to do xxx.
M: Well, here is the way we like to do it here at this park.
CM: yes, but I thought this was what we were supposed to do.
M: Some more yada yada yada. and then ...."let's fill out this witness statement.
CM: now takes a REALLY long time filling out a witness statement because while upset, they realize this can now be utilized as a way to waste time.

If Disney is buying back the stores its a GREAT idea!

working at the Disney Store was just horrible (owned by Childrens Place when I was there) a few of the managers from the Disney ownership were still there but they had enough and are now all gone.

I always thought that guests need to wear shirts at all times for hygyne reasons more than anything else.

It's really **** that some guests think that the rules don't apply to them because they want a nice tan or because they are a little too warm or because they really need to smoke right at this point in time.

If a CM ever asked me to do something like pick up trash which I accidentally dropped or similar then I would be really appologetic - definatly wouldn't insult them or be rude.

This isn't meant to be antagonistic, but is it really a CM's place to ask a woman to pull up her top? That seems to be in a different realm than asking a man to put his shirt back on or even asking someone to put shoes on their kid.

I'm all for enforcing rules when it comes to smoking and making sure people are WEARING clothes, but if a CM ever approached a woman in my party and told her he thought her neckline was too low, I'd think he was really out of line (and this is coming from a former CM).
