Tomorrowland is a ghetto. Someone has really derailed this area. The only thing they have gotten right that someone actually got right was finally the new peoplemover narration. But the rest is a disjointed mess of emptiness, ugly paint, and no cohesion in design. My only hope is with Tron they have an aesthetic they can follow and could use throughout, but they have known this for a long time and have done nothing.
There are still lots of lovely areas

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.
He’s being reprogrammed to play Bobby Womack’s “Across 100th Street” Rick James’s “Ghetto Life” and of course Warren G’s “Regulate”. Gotta fit in. Because it’s certainly not comically overstating it to say that

Well, it is Club Tinsel still...towards Feburary, so they are going to perform Randy Newman's Christmas in Cape Town. The song where the guy confidently dropped the N word too. I am sure glad his music will soon be heard in Frontierland.

They used that lower seating area as a dance party area.

Also that stage is the “roof” of Sonny’s stage, he’s lowered into the utilidors right now, probably getting some TLC

No, Sonny's stage is the roof of this stage. The real stage lowers into the Utilidors so performers can get on it. When it rises, Sonny goes up inside the bubble on top of the building. The fact that they have the stage in this position is actually a little concerning, as it means they're not actively working on him. Unless he's been removed.

Got it backwards, you’re right, he’s been covered in tarps the last few days, this is probably a better option till he’s fixed

It would be fun to see a whole new show... an animatronic robot spectacular...fresh and more futuristic. Sonny Eclipse was great for the tongue-in-cheek "Future That Never Was"...but we have stripped that back to the earlier version...
It should be crazy and gritty and fun like Tokyo's Robot Restaurant... now that would be a "must see" and a lot of fun...

I'm honestly a little concerned. Something like Sonny seems like exactly the kind of charming little thing they've been so adamant about getting rid of over the years. I could absolutely see them deciding he (and the Magic Stage itself) isn't worth the trouble and putting in some type of video display instead.

He also doesn't necessarily fit into the current direction for Tomorrowland, as he's pretty firmly planted in the 1994 New Tomorrowland story.

Disneyland Paris released these beautiful limited edition figurines of the Dragon under their Castle and The Timekeeper and 9-Eye from La Visionarium for the resort's 30th Anniversary this year . . . had they released a similar Sonny Eclipse figurine for WDW's 50th I would have bought it in an instant:

Sonny Eclipse is one of those taken for granted things. Current management would have never added him. And they dont try to even make money off of him. I feel they are like well people like him, and he works so we will just let it keep going. If it ever breaks we will just put it in permanent b mode with a blank stage.

When you put it that way, it concerns me too. Although you'd think his removal would coincide with a refresh of the entire restaurant, right?

Removing him entirely with no notice would be really sad.

Tomorrowland needs a complete overhaul...Monsters Inc. and Stitch need to be replaced with appropriate attractions that fit the theme, and architecturally it all needs to be more harmonious.. Building Tron makes the point how glaringly disjointed it all is. Cleaning and paint is nice, but it is needs so much more.
Splash is getting a makeover, and so will that corner of the park I imagine, Fantasyland had a makeover, now it is time for Tomorrowland.
Heres my issue. What do you put in tomorrowland?
Is it supposed to be another planet? Is it earth in the future?
Originally it was earth in 1986 and showing what was coming soon with aluminum foil, the interstate system, the people mover, nuclear submarines, rockets to the moon, add in some hovercrafts and hoverpacks and its the jetsons meets the jet age that was super popular at the time (BTW we are talking disneyland)

Disney world added tomorrowland because they were roughly copying disneyland (greatest hits basically)
Outside of the entrance and in my opinion the buildings what screamed future?
Flight to the moon was futuristic still (as it was the feeling that when you grew up trips to outerspace would be like flying to another state)
america the beautiful-nope
circle vision 360- nope
skyway-nope (but transportation so ok)
If you had wings-nope

If is another planet or outerspace and we are leaning into fantasy not reality (unlike original tomorrowland)
stitch could have made sense
monsters inc could make sense
space ranger spin could make sense
astro orbiter it belongs if nothing else for movement
space mountain belongs
tron belongs
peoplemover isnt the future of travel but Ill gut anyone that tries to remove it
cop doesnt belong but ill gut you as well
speedway- doesnt belong in tomorrowland unless converted to electric or solar but needs to stay

If it was me and you gave me the budget I would restore the front entrance.
I would make a story for tomorrowland and decide what it is.
Are we stepping into earth 2134 (this means updating every decade)
Are we at a spaceport on another planet (this is how i see it now)
I would then lean into the story I would have a mayor (someone like sonny if its another planet and have more characters roaming) if its earth I would cast a mayor, maybe change it every few years. I would have digital posters everywhere that would try to sell you stuff using your magic band "hey bill have you tried Buzz lightyear cologne" (you could opt out of this)
And the mayor coming over the loud speakers explaining todays weather and make sure you get your space juice from some quick serv.
At that point you can go crazy and use any IP you want muppets from outer space, buzz, sonny eclipse, stitch, earth to ned

Or go future, get sponsors and have a spacex ride, basically mission to mars but updated to look realistic with todays technology
but theres the rub. What is futuristic today? in the 50s and 60s everything was new, the home of the future, plastics, aluminum microwaves washing machines color tv was still futuristic. The idea of going to the moon futuristic. Outside of space travel.. WHAT DO WE HAVE NOW. electric vehicles? solar? I dont feel those are futuristic, a better definition tv...yawn. Sadly there isnt any excitement over what is coming, or the future we will live in.

Tomorrowland as a concept may no longer be relevant.

This is on top of the fact that he's been missing for some time now, right?
On January 8th, Sonny wasn't there; a cast member said he was "on tour." Artist Dave Perillo did a fantastic print for the Festival of the Arts this year featuring Sonny, and when Dave went to the Magic Kingdom, he posted on Instagram that Sonny wasn't there either. It appeared the Sonny artwork had sold out when I was at Epcot this past Sunday. I'm so glad I was able to get a print earlier during the festival, and I really hope Sonny returns ASAP. He's the only reason I ever want to eat at Cosmic Ray's.

WDI had the option of either finishing what was started in 1994, going back to the original aesthetic or trying something completely new.

That they decided on "none of the above" is disappointing. Unless this was another case of the budget running out and being spread too thin like Disneyland 1998.
