Journey into Imagination
Before I start, I literally cannot pick a better name for an imagination attraction, this one is just so perfect and classic that replacing it would be a crime. That aside, well, aside, I’ll get into the ride.
So a few years ago, Disney purchased Marvel Comics and created a giant cinematic universe featuring their popular characters such as Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Guardians of the Galaxy, among others. However, they did something even better with their acquisition of the company, they created a comic series following two of Disney’s most famous in park creations: Figment and Dreamfinder in the Figment comic series. This attraction will take that series (which is truly fantastic and absolutely needs to be read) and become a sequel to the series, following Figment and Dreamfinder after they save London from the Singularity.
The attraction will be gutted but the pavilion building will stay the same. The attraction will go back to the layout of the original 1983 attraction's, but will go from being a standard dark ride to become a trackless dark ride, the second ever at Disney World (considering Ratatouille will more than likely be one) and the second at Epcot. I feel like trackless will give a perfect feeling of fantasy and imagination to the attraction.
The queue itself will be themed to Scientifica Lucida, the academy Blarion Mercuial once worked at. As you pass through the queue you can see hints to older Figment attraction iterations such as a door reading "Prof. N. Channing" as a love-letter to the current version of the attraction. You can also find newspaper, oil pastel paintings, and other references to the Figment comic. The epitome of the attraction's queue will come to an interactive animatronic of the sound sprite Fye, with the head of Chimera peeking in from behind able to interact with the guests, talking about Dreamfinder and Figment and tells us of their legendary inventions.
Guests then reach the boarding vehicle which is supposed to bring you around the academy, but Dreamfinder's Integrated Mesmonic Converter is accidentally turned on and your vehicle is sucked into the portal into the land of imagination. Once there, you meet Dreamfinder and Figment, riding in the Dream Machine who welcome you to Imaginationland. He tells you that in order to get home, you need to reach another portal that will take you back to the Academy.
The attraction will take you through the lands of the Figment comic, including the Color Wheel, Mathmagic Land, Audio Acreage, and of course Nightmare Nation, as well as some other new lands such as Art Archipelago. You will come into chance encounters with the Sound Sprites that try to capture you for being impure, a brainstorm, a rescue by Chimera, and a terrifying experience in the Nightmare Nation. Luckily, as you go, Figment and Dreamfinder keep you safe and positive by reminding you that even the darkest recesses of the imagination are just that, imagination, and that you have full control over what happens. As you trek, new verses are added to the classic song "One Little Spark" about the area the rider is in.
The attraction comes to an end where Dreamfinder and Figment help you reach the portal, bidding you farewell to you and welcoming you to return to the world of Imagination whenever you feel. Just simply think about it, and you too will be able to return.
You then exit into a much more steampunk version of Imageworks featuring interactive attractions such as...
Replacing the Pixar Short Film Festival in the MagicEye Theater as well is a brand new restaurant called the Rainbow Garden where you are surrounded by walls where the Imagination world is projected all around you. The food served is imaginative in its own right, but the real winner is the endless ice cream bar where every flavor and topping imaginable is available for the picking to create the best sundae imaginable.
With that, we end Journey Into Imagination (with some extras). Thanks for reading!
