Will someone remind again on how many Dessert viewing party are there in WDW? are they even losing money and they needed to do this lame parties? i mean i know it wont effect some guests, but from what i'm seeing is that WDW is slowly making everything an excuse to make an exclusive party.

I means what's next an upcharge toilet? with washlet and free Wi-fi

Looks like...

- Tomorrowland Terrance for Wishes
- Illuminations
- Star Wars/Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!

All these "dessert parties", hard ticket events, cabanas, etc. are just diluting the value for the General Admission ticket. Each of these is taking away time and attractions that for years was simply part of admission. So to those who say "I'm not paying for it. It doesn't affect me", you could not be more wrong. It affects us all.

For those interested, the Mark Twain riverboat at Disneyland has a live Dixieland band on board and tables and chairs set up for Guests to use...for free....during the day.
Food and drink is allowed to be brought on board, too.
Characters from 'The Princess and The Frog' make daily appearances on and around said ferry boat as well...for free....for any day Guests visiting the Park.

This has been going on since the ferry boat had to be docked due to the extensive work being done on the River and surrounding areas for the new 'Star Wars' area.
It's a great spot to just sit and relax and enjoy the band, eat a snack, or see some character interactions.

Yet another reason why I prefer Disneyland over WDW these days.
More bang for your buck for sure.
:)

How does this affect the people who don't like it? If you don't want to spend $49 on the dessert party, why not just... not? There are plenty of things in WDW I don't spend money on because I don't want to do them... Do you really NEED to ride the Liberty Belle between 1pm and 4pm? I totally understand being annoyed at additional upcharges in general, but this sounds like the same argument as people who claim they CAN'T ride an attraction because it is out of Fastpasses for the day...

The Liberty Belle is almost never anywhere close to capacity, and it's only three hours of the day that it's out of commission with this event. I see arguments for an against the dessert party, but I'm not outraged at the prospect of not being able to ride the Liberty Belle between 1pm and 4pm, I could just as easily do so before or after those couple of hours.

I have few thoughts here....
1) Wow that sounds fun and I am glad to see her featured
2) WHHHHYYY must they continue offering these upcharge events (rhetorical)
3) Was the River Boat so sought after that this is really that angering? Or is it the principle that an attraction is not accessible to park goers during that time and it's because of an upcharge event?

This "it doesn't effect me so who cares" attitude is becoming all to prevalent around here lately. Don't think selfishly, think selflessly instead... you know, as in the big picture.

But it doesn't have to affect anyone. The big picture is that it's only a small portion of the day that the riverboat is closed. I don't think it's selfish to think that I'm not bothered because I could just ride the riverboat before or after. The big picture in my opinion is that it's closed for a couple of hours, and I don't need to ride it during that specific time anyway. I can't imagine there are people who go to the Magic Kingdom thinking that they absolutely must get on the riverboat between those times.

You're completely missing the point. If they shut down HM for 4 hours a day and only gave you access during that time if you pay $50 and they give you a cupcake while you ride, would you say it doesn't affect anyone?

Haunted Mansion is popular and well liked by the general public. The riverboat is rarely more than half full and I can't think of a single person I know who rides it more than once a year at most. Don't try to compare the riverboat to one of the most iconic attractions in theme park history.

You've seen the tents in tomorrowland? We have better looking ones on the streets of Manchester that homeless sleep on.

"Sorry sir. I know you've paid a lot of money to come to this park. If you want to ride the boat for the next three hours you've got to pay more"

How many more brainless ideas must the parks suffer by clueless kids out of business school?

No you missed the point. The guests per hour for the Haunted Mansion is grater than the 6 trips that this party replaces. Its a low capacity and low utilized "ride"

Ok, since no one seems to understand I will try to make it as clear as possible.

Disney is taking attractions that you had access to with the purchase of a park ticket for as long as I can remember and closing them down during normal park hours and turning them into an upcharge event. The attraction is irrelevant, the point is you are being denied access to something you have always had with a full price park ticket.

What makes you think any other attraction is safe if they're testing this on the river boat? Spoiler Alert: Disney doesn't care how much you like a ride, if they want it gone/changed/re-themed/upcharged, they will do it.

Comparison: Say you had the Disney Dining plan, but whenever you went to a restaurant, for 3 hours of that day, you wouldn't be able to order one of the dishes unless you paid an extra $49 on top of the meal credit you already paid for. Yes, you can order something else, but there's still no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to order that dish when it was previously available all day without paying a premium.

Edit: In other words, it's slowly slipping stuff that was previously included behind a pay wall

But since they are taking away things from the average guest, they are going to lower ticket prices right?

Up until very recently Liberty Square was my favourite land. Largely unspoiled, quaint, pretty. Classic Americana, classic Disney.

Now it has a Rapunzel Land, Muppets blaring from the windows, a credit card vending booth, electronic games in the windows. On top of the older travesties of a closed antique shop, closed Horseshoe show, closed Keelboat attraction, horrible toontown addition to the Keelboat dock, lame toonified Mansion, lost music band, lost live entertainment, stone pavement replaced by stone coloured paint.

And all of that you have to endure to find the one boat ride left (of three) is closed for an upcharge private viewing area while you are directed to the throngs for the parade.

They took paradise and turned it into a mean and sorry dump.
