Can we stop and talk about how absolutely unprecedented and strange it is that Disney Parks uploaded a ride POV? Let alone of a ride that hasn't opened? Like it's all so odd. Why?

I thought it was LMG Vids or something in my YouTube feed at first.
They wanted to beat the incessant YouTubers / vloggers IMO, which to me makes sense, as it has gotten very over saturated and they do tend to ruin the experience for others.

The POV release itself is so odd, and a conversation seperate altogether.

What is going on?

Was this an attempt to put the fanatics who were going to try and show up expecting a standby or still put thousands who are ok not trying to book a virtual queue every morning at bay for a bit until they let the larger revenue-based guests ride?

Aside from the finale, which I think looks very vibrant and kinetic, I came away from that video feeling…nothing. The scenes lack energy, tension, personality, story-telling. And the issue isn’t the story itself. Even though it’s a bit vapid, there’s so much potential for camp and whimsy in searching the bayou for critters that play instruments. It feels like the imagineers used the impressive AA technology as a crutch and the end product just feels…soulless.

I hate typing this because I’ve been optimistic about this overhaul since day 1, despite replacing one of my favorite attractions. But after watching that POV, I can’t pretend I’m not disappointed. Can only hope the in-person experience is better.

Pretty much. Their attempt to thwart any bad perceptions that they think may be derived from poor quality footage. That being said, the quality of this production is not great. The dynamic range is horrible as is the audio. I fully expect vlogger or guests to produce videos of much better quality.

Upon re-watching the POV, I noticed there's a lot of space where the figures with dialogue visibly 'reset' for the next boat while the camera is still on them, case in point are the Tianas on the upper level. Hoping that's something that'll be fixed because it gives alot of space where Tiana just kind of stares at you then seems to wake up.

Yes, nothing happens with the search.
Each time we see the critters, there are simply more of them playing together.
Old Disney would have crafted some cute and funny props, sets, etc., to tie in rounding up these animals.

I'm withholding judgement until I see it in person, but...
I was super excited for this. But from what I've seen of the POV (I skimmed it, I really want to get the full experience in person) it's only pretty good.
I don't know. I really want to love it. I was even downplaying how amazing my memories of the predecessor-that-shall-not-be-named were in the hopes of liking this one as a unique product. But now I'm worried that I put my confidence in the wrong place. Maybe it's fine, maybe it's great in person. I suppose I'll see in two months.

Baxter talked about this in an interview a few months back. I think it's more relevant now than ever-

I think watching this video gave me a new perspective on how my daughter might react to this overhaul. Treating the lift like a fun celebration then hauling you over a waterfall may feel deceptive to younger riders. I can see some children feeling betrayed by the drop. Yes, you see it outside, but four-year-olds are tall enough to ride this, and they might not make the full connection to the drop outside and the hill leading to it. The buzzards match so well to the anxiety you should feel reaching the hill. Mama Odi feels confusing. I wish she would tease you just a little on the way up.

I went to Disneyland with some extended family about five years ago. My cousins, who are toddlers, went on Snow White's Scary Adventures. Sure they set it up to be scary in the queue, but it's a Snow White ride... they were in tears at the end because it was terrifying for them. Disney has since toned it down considerably.

I imagine this will be that times 10, since the drop doesn't fit the feel of the attraction.

I just finished the video. Alas, I can’t deny that I’m disappointed. Unlike some here, I don’t think the ride looks empty—I find the interiors sufficiently lush and interesting—but the lack of any narrative tension or excitement is very much to the detriment of the experience. I also really dislike the screens.

I don’t think it’s a bad attraction in itself, and I’m reasonably confident it will be more enjoyable in person, but the final product isn’t strong enough to stop me from missing Splash.
