Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Even if new animatronics are added, that doesn't mean the Splash Mountain/America Sings animatronics will survive. There's still a fifty-percent chance most of them will be scrapped.

If nothing else, the Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox animatronics are definitely going to get scrapped. I can't even see them being reskinned. The Brer Bear animatronics might get reskinned as Louis like everyone's been suggesting.
Wait, wait wait, you've moved the goal post my dude. You posted here almost every day for over a year that you were positive that Disney would be axing almost all if not all AAs except Tiana, Naveen, and Louis and replacing them with screens because they'll go cheap. Even stating that there would be huge gaps of dead space because all the AAs would be gone. Well that is not happening, so now you've changed your tune.

So now that Disney has announced they will be ADDING 16+ new AAs you're now 50% sure they'll be scrapping the old AAs, not even giving them a reskin. And while there is no indication that will actually happen, I have to say so what. If they are replacing the existing AAs with updated AAs AND adding 16+ new ones then that means the attraction is not losing any AAs. It means the attraction is getting ALL new AAs, which is a positive thing. And yes it'll be a little sad to think the original America Sings AAs are gone, it'll hopefully mean the attraction can be more easy to maintain and more likely to have AAs that remain working longer without breaking down.

And finally if in this scenario that you made up in your head about them replacing all old AAs with new ones happens..... It means it won't be done on the cheap!

Maybe the "Louis can't find his trumpet" thing is just a subplot?
At this point I'm fairly confident we can call that Jim Hill "rumor" debunked. He either made it up or it was a very very early concept that got thrown out.

If you're saying crowds don't care, they will still come, you're 100% correct. Of those who actually "pay attention" to Disney, I don't think it's even close.

Also, it's been two years (you mean when it opens, my bad) doesn't mean they've actually done much during that time. Maybe my belief will be completely destroyed on Sunday.

And yes, it's absolutely my feelings, that's why I said "I think, but I could be wrong".
The fans who pay attention don’t matter, which is my point (besides the ones that happily eat up whatever Disney serves them).

To say that it’s rushed when none of us know exactly what they’ve been doing this entire time is silly. It will have been four years, but they probably didn’t do much during that time? Okay. Doubt it.

Some of the reactions have been incredibly over-the-top for something literally no one has seen, nor experienced, because it doesn’t exist. Agree to disagree.

Exactly. The people who don't even know the attraction is changing are not gonna be the ones that care that it does.

I never liked the idea of the full tree at the top because it would’ve diluted the forced perspective of the mountain and made it look shorter.

Was that ever in doubt? Kylo Ren, Hondo Ohnaka, the Shaman of Songs?
Those are the focal point of their respective rides. In fact, in two of those cases, they’re the ride’s only AA and the rest is full of screens. That’s peoples ongoing concern, that because Splash Mountain is such a long and AA-heavy ride, a lot of parts will be replaced with screens or other things.

I never post here, but as this is my favorite ride of all time, I took the opportunity of my girlfriend (a Disney employee) having a conference at the park last week to ride it as much as I could as a goodbye. I looped it a quick 10 times in the morning, thinking I was done forever. That was a good number. Then I heard her coworkers were taking bets on if I could make it to 20. Challenge accepted. I reemerged in the afternoon and utilized the single rider line to my advantage. By ride 18 I was obviously burnt out and every ride was pretty much a blur. However, on ride 19, I was seated with another single rider - a six-year-old girl who LOVED splash but her mom didn't (I didn't ask any questions). The whole ride, she talked my ear off about her favorite parts of the ride, the seats where she's gotten most/least soaked, and how she's only scared of one ride at all the Disney parks (Guardians). Basically, we became buds on that ride. By the time I got to the Zip-A-Dee-Lady, I thought "yeah okay, this feels right as my last ride; passing the torch to the next generation, as it were." But as we disembarked, she challenged me to ride again. So we did! Thanks Kayla, my last Splash experience was a blast thanks to you! Final Splash tally that day: 20!

“Abomination” is an exaggeration.

It’s not cute, though. I’m not a fan.
To me, it is an insult to hard work that originally went into creating the original ride. It's something I expect to see outside of a Six Flags ride, not Disney. It is cringey and tacky and actually lacks imagination. A 5 year would come up with a better idea than that. It came from someone with no imagination but from someone trying to sell a product. I am happy last month I got to ride Splash as it is? One last time now.

So has Mardi Gras been dropped? I really don't get why Disney is trying to justify the salt dome so much. Like if it fits the attraction, who cares? After hearing the backstory to the plot, I really hope Mardi Gras is in it. Would be a real shame if this whole business thing comes into fruition. Sounds like a confusing plot, people had to literally define parts of it.

Seems like just a month ago it was a Mardi Gras story and Disney was at a Mardi Gras festival.

I believe it still is. Tiana is throwing a Mardi Gras party for all of NOLA, but needs a key ingredient, and we have to go find it. The finale will be where the "Mardi Gras" party takes place. There will be animals that join us through the ride as well I assume.

Kind of confusing with the Salt mine and Tiana's food plot, admittedly.

I also somewhat like how the finale/showboat is more of a surprise in the current version. They give away the ending here, but I suppose it has a different context and plot anyways.

I just got a chance to see pictures of the new model of the mountain and I must say I'm already missing the original concept art. I have no doubt that the final design could grow on me but I'm sorry that we are no longer getting a tree that would have lit up with fireflies at night. I'm joining the chorus with those saying that a water tower is a strange substitute. Then again, for two years that concept art was the only solid art we had of the ride so I may just have grown attached to it, having little else to grasp.

To get the topic out of the way, I will also say that I don't care for the transformation of Tiana into a business magnate. I haven't met many little girls who are enamored of those and it seems like Disney is trying to make her more important and meaningful, as if her character and motivations in the movie just weren't enough.

While I may come around on the facade, I'm not sure I will regarding the inclusion of Tiana's Palace . My recollection is that in the movie the restaurant was huge. Impractical in size for Disneyland in general. Seeing as it is to take over an existing eatery, there aren't any that can realistically adopt the dimensions seen in the movie, nor is there one I wish replaced. With the immersion push in themed design, seen in places like Cars Land and Pandora, I'm surprised that they're moving forward with what can't help but be an inferior version. The better way to go would have been to turn an existing New Orleans Square facility into Tiana's new restaurant that had just opened.
After all this stuff about Tiana turning into a business magnate, I could totally see them saying “Oh but little did you know, Tiana decided to franchise the Tiana’s Palace brand. So the Tiana’s Palace that’s opening in Disneyland isn’t the original restaurant from the movie, it’s actually the 6th restaurant in the chain, and that’s why it doesn’t look the same as in the movie.”
