Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Just comparing Imagineering from then to now leads me to think that from a design and story standpoint, this will be a step down. The ride will do well, make no mistake, but if the water tower is any indication of what else is to come, I can’t consciously say this will be a meaningful ‘improvement’ over Splash, sans the removal of any of the racial insensitivities. Again, not trying to spark a debate, but I can’t in good conscious pretend that I believe current leadership will get it right in the end.

The thing is, it is both highly possible and highly likely that new generations of people will absolutely consider Tiana a classic. They will not have the same opinions as you have and will base their love for the ride off of different criteria. This happens with pretty much any form of entertainment, and has been happening for centuries.

Walt Disney World has never had a soul.
Nah, it had one, but there's a whole range of factors that can make it seem like it never did.

The resort has never really recovered from the 90s and Pressler-era cuts in the way that DLR ultimately did (the degree to which this recovery happened and stuck is definitely debatable, but it's also clear that DLR isn't stuck in 03 anymore either).

There's always been a whole internet of people screaming about how DL is better because Walt or because of other largely subjective and arbitrary factors, that largely never tried to appreciate WDW on its own terms (this continues in earnest today) and who never got to see WDW when it was in its heyday.

And since modern Imagineering's default position is to assume that if something was done in a way that was distinct to WDW that it's wrong b/c it's not the way DLR did it, and modern WDW is run very incompetently, it's easy to assume that WDW has always been this lazy, inferior knockoff of DLR.

That wasn't true at conception. It doesn't have to be true now. But unlike DLR, modern WDW has no champion in the company, no one who seems to truly understand and respect its past, its soul, and so it is currently (and has been for some time) their most soulless product as a result.

It's possible Tiana ends up as a great attraction that becomes synonymous with Disneyland to the general public just like Splash Mountain has been for the last few decades, but I know on my end it won't reach that status. That's not because of any petty feud I have with this decision, it's just simply that the days of Disneyland's influence on me are over. The Disneyland that I know will always be what existed from 2001 to 2015. Whatever changes come to the parks, my heart will always be with what I grew up experiencing. As much as I do enjoy Rise of the Resistance, it will never have the same hold on me that the original Star Tours did because I didn't ride Rise of the Resistance as a five year old boy.

I've made peace with the fact the Disneyland I loved is gone, not because of any social justice or capitalist influence, but simply because I'm an adult now and I've moved on. I hope someday I'll have children of my own and get to experience Disneyland through their eyes. Maybe then I can enjoy Disneyland again the way I once did, and then I can tell them about Br'er Rabbit and Splash Mountain just as my father used to tell me about the sea monster on the Submarine Voyage.

Sure, it is sad when changes come and what we loved is gone, but I'm grateful for the memories I possess of Splash Mountain and the Disneyland of my youth, and I suppose that's better than being bitter about what has come of it. Well, except for the loss of Tower of Terror; I'm still p.o.'d about that one.

Soooooo....did anyone see all the pathetic people selling Splash Mountain water on ebay? There was one that had 30+ bids as some point. I'm not sure which is worse, the person selling out the incredibly stupid Disney fans buying it. I sincerely hope that the guy selling it just filled up a jar from a water fountain or sink at WDW and some idiot in the fanbase bought it.

The ones buying it are the fools, not the ones selling it.

My biggest problem with WDI is technology and story is all they focus on. Heck it's all they talk(brag) about in their videos for the last 7 years. "We are the greatest storytellers, we made this new technology".

And it's like OK how does that equate to a charming ride? Does Disney know how to make a charming ride anymore? I don't know the last charming ride they opened.

The Mickey and Minnie ride was cute and all but its like you are in these giant costco warehouse rooms that are 90% empty and super tall. I feel old WDI wouldve made that two highly themed rides packed with details from floor to ceiling.

They need to have their focus be on the rider's experience, tone, and atmosphere. Rides aren't good because of story or technology.

Slinky Dog Dash is a fairly charming ride. If they’d just put a bit more effort into the theming (not to mention the surrounding land, which is… really, really shallow), they’d have a new classic.

Disney announces that DL's SM closure will be later in the years, and by that, they mean five days after MK's and not giving people a heads up for 'last rides.'

Ok...

And with DL's SM down, Japan will be the only park with a SM?!!??! WOW!! WHAT A SCOOP!!1!1 AND THAT'S FROM... AN INSIDE SOURCE!!1!!1
