Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

I just hate that they got rid of something that would have been fun and iconic for the structure to give itself a new visual identity apart from Splash. All for the sake of maintaining the realism in their narrative.

This exact thinking is what made GE a dud by being so consumed into their own strict timeline and rules they’re imposing on themselves.

I get not including the boat, but they could have still kept the tree! Or at least a different weenie entirly. I dont dislike the water tower its a cute little detail but it does feel like the mountain is missing something on top of it.
This is just my opinion, but I suspect they are trying to disassociate Tiana's from Splash as much as possible hence why they are trying to not accentuate the "mountain" with the tree or the boat.

The three was the only thing about the initial art that I liked.
I totally get not liking the tree. It was something that grew on me over time.

It just needs something to act as a weenie and give the ride it’s own identity from the outside. The water tower alone does not cut it.

Even a gray/darker brown rock color would distance the ride more. Right now it’s literally still Splash Mountain.

I will say though, I’m sure the new foliage will look very pretty.

The new facade looks more like the flume from Knott's than it does something that's Disney quality.

It feels so weird to me that they've been working on this since 2019 and it's like all of these different people worked on it, yet no one communicated with each other? No one rehearsed this beforehand? It all just feels so sloppy and haphazard to me! This attraction is a landmark, it needs an identity from the outside! :(

Exactly, I thought the same thing. I think one reason why fans are starting to see the charm in Knotts and Universal might stem from the fact that Disney has been removing the key ingredients of their parks that used to make them stand out. Now it feels like the bar is pretty low, but that’s just my opinion.

I just hope the Imagineers remembered that theme park rides are supposed to be fun. Tiana’s Business Venture is not a fun premise for a thrill ride, so I’m really hoping this tortured backstory exists mostly for PR purposes and to provide some justification for having a mountain in a bayou — and so in the actual ride, Tiana’s LinkedIn resume is merely a perfectly serviceable MacGuffin for jumpstarting the fun. But I’m beginning to worry Imagineering has their priorities mixed up.

That's because it is sloppy and haphazard. It needs to be stressed that this ride isn't being redone because WDI thinks they can make it better- it's being redone for a host of other reasons unrelated to the quality of Splash Mountain.

The new facade looks low budget. Cut the tree of the top, plant some new plants, build a water tower, throw up a few banners and call it a day.

Everything they're saying about the interior/ride experience seems to indicate the ride is losing any amount of suspense leading up to the final drop- which is really gonna deflate the attraction.

Your opinion isn't far off. We have a industrial garbage processing tower still standing front and center at DCA.

While food cooperatives existed before the Great Depression, they weren't really that popular until the 1960's when all that "commune" stuff was happening. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, where there are a lot of them (unfortunately, they are as toxic as any other workplace, don't let the "family" talk fool you). My grandpa's cousin married into a family that started a very old and famous San Francisco grocery that was a proto-type Trader Joe's (which TJs is actually based on) co-op without being called a co-op. As cringe as I found it initially (and NGL still kind of do?), there were NOLA/LA co-ops in rural eras during that time period---but it wasn't necessarily the Tiana's Food model, and mostly included upper-class women. If they had spent the amount of time on this they should have, it wouldn't come across as that shoehorned.

I am just disappointed that they always do Tiana dirty like this. 😭

Well said and exactly what I was thinking.

I mean, I think the same company built Splash and that Knotts ride. But from a Disney standpoint, it's pretty sad that your competitor has something comparable.

Yeah I don’t like how exposed the flume is now they re removing the Briar patch. It’s really “story” over everything for these people. Story over fun. Story over aesthetics. How about pick/make a good story at least.

If there is a Hurricane refreshment stand nearby Hey! a few of those and it will look just fine. Of course, there will need to be non-adult versions of the Hurricane (for the tea tootlers and kiddos) plus Tiana souvenir sippers.

It's somehow too much and not enough story. :/
Exactly. Ridiculously elaborate backstory but then the actual ride entails... a drama-free trip to Mardi Gras? Do we know of any other plot points?

Not trying to be overly cynical; I still think it could be a fine attraction. Maybe once the ride starts, it's all critters and jazz and thrills and spills. I was just hoping D23 would demystify what exactly this ride will be for me, but I'm beginning to think that may not happen until it actually opens and I ride it myself.

Another thought -- if Disney is revitalizing New Orleans Square by incorporating TBA and re-theming a restaurant, I really hope they expand their alcohol offerings. I will pay $19 for a Tiana-themed Mint Julep, Sazerac, or Hurricane.

It just gives me "there's a quiz at the end" vibes! Like I hope I am not expected to know all of the new characters and their lives as FBI agents or whatever.
