Like... kids understand racism. little kids of color experience racism. Hunchback tackled racism. Kids aren't stupid.
Seriously. I started experiencing self-image issues and low self-esteem due to my race when I was around 9-years-old. I got called the “N” word with a hard “ER” at the end, directly to my face, for the first time when I was 11-years-old. It’s something that I will likely never forget. That incident didn’t help my self-hatred at all.

I could have used some talks about racism and how to navigate it as a child. I was experiencing it myself. This is the sad reality, so we need to talk to children about it.
Both Remus and Jim exist as figurehead, rather than truly formed people, and as vehicles for yt protagonists to learn about themselves through. And these tropes just will not go away. The Queen's Gambit has the same stereotypes, and no one said anything. It's so gross.
I haven’t seen The Queen’s Gambit. I was never interested, but now I kinda am.🤔

Nice to have you back @raven24. I wondered what happened to you. You ok?
Thank you, but I’m not back. Not necessarily. I will probably post through the weekend and leave again.

I’ve been okay. I hope the same for you. To be honest, there’s literally nothing going on at the parks that interests me. I have no desire to visit any Disney park, let alone my beloved Disneyland, and every announcement Disney Parks makes nowadays is either disappointing or not worth my time. Couple that with dealing with certain personalities here that irk my last nerve… Makes it very easy for me to stay away.

It’s just not the same anymore. It’s nowhere near as fun and entertaining.

I'm with you on the "uninspiring" situation of what Disney announces these days. Good thing you didn't experience the original EPCOT Center. You'd be even more disinterested. ;)

Take care.

I am so sorry you had to deal with that :(. Some people in the world are such monsters.

I can't even begin to imagine how hurtful that must have been.

I agree kids need to be taught about these topics. I don't think Disney has ever been the company that does so, at least not in their feature films. And if they are making a profit with an anti racial message film, would they be in bad taste for making profit off of the issue?

I feel this, my interest in the parks and Disney generally is at an all time low. Disney feels to me like its become a quintessential example of a 2020s-era sterile, cowardly large corporation with no real goals or ideas anymore.

Plus personal burnout after having spent so many years going to the parks and wanting to focus on other things in life.

Amen. I have no zeal, as far as attending the parks. Still enjoy the history and reminiscing on the good times, but I’m currently done. I refuse to continue to give my money to the parks when I’m not satisfied and feel I’m being taken advantage of.

I have similar experience with personal burnout, a lot of it stemming from the fact that I used to work at Disneyland. I’ve now prioritized other things, such as travel, both nationally and internationally. I’d also like to start reading more books.

I feel this way too, but it also motivates me to go back and enjoy what I still like there while I can.

Take the Casey Jr ride. It's wonderful, it's perfect, but with Disney today nothing is sacred and it could be closed at any moment, and possibly without any replacement at all...the track just left to rot. That describes a lot of the parks features today.

And, honestly, if this really was in the works for a year before the announcement, I think they probably would've figured out how they're going to pull this retheme off by now.
Man you’re leaping from one conclusion to the next. There’s really no evidence to suggest they don’t have it figured out.

Not too much for me, but too much for the Walt Disney Company. Same reason their films have half second gay moments instead of full gay characters.
Well, the gay thing has been because of China. They are huge on box office, but not so much on Civil Rights and Freedom of Speech.

Do tell. In regards to Splash or something else?
"In honor of Splash Mountain in Disney World's 30th birthday, we are proud to announce it's finished, overnight retheming to an attraction that is inclusive to all cultures and backgrounds."

I actually had a dream where they opened up to preview the retheme, and it was literally two screens on both sides of the flume that had a Princess and the Frog logo and some Windows XP Screensavers...

I think I can predict the future.
