Tiana’s Bayou Adventure SPOILER Thread

You know, I woke up this morning and logged in over here to see what all the fuss was about. Again, it was the typical complaints, and I was ready to defend the ride...but after watching that POV, nevermind lol. Maybe I need to see it without the cuts, and maybe I just need to ride it in person. However, that video is a bit disappointing.

The Imagineers threw the basic fundamentals of storytelling out the window when it came to creating the ride's plot. Do they all need to take a creative writing class? One of the biggest rules in telling a story, especially a short story, is that there needs to be ACTION. Having the AAs just stand there and say a few words does nothing to pull the guests into the story, which leads to absolutely no tension when it comes the lift hill. Are they afraid of telling a story that has any danger in it? I mean the actual movie has an amazing amount of tension in its final act. Where did that go here? Oh, and the screens...I was a bit upset when I saw it the first time, but I thought the POV would change my mind. Well, it did not lol. When it comes to screens in general, I hate when they use it just because the tech is available. For instance, do we really need a screen of Mama Odie before shrinking? Why couldn't it have been an AA?

Now, this does not mean I suddenly side with all the Splash Mountain truthers, as some of y'all still need to come back down to reality at times. However, I definitely see your complaints now, and it kinda sucks how such a kinetic ride is now full of nothingness.

Im hoping they see the poor reviews and course correct for Disneylands version. The fact that logs move much faster there should help. Hopefully they kept a lot of those America Sings AAs but I doubt it.
Splash Archive said they were keeping a handful of them, but not all. I don't know how many that would entail if that's still the plan. I think he may have singled out one of the stork figures as a potential keeper IIRC (which WDW never had a copy of). But I can't be sure I'm remembering correctly.

Also curious in general if there will be further major scene differences out there. Like again the one of Naveen and Tiana in the boat. Which again, also contained the old hanging possums from Splash.

I also denounced them as a prophet, which seems fair.
In hindsight, there were a ton of reasons to be concerned about this project. And there were a lot of people who pointed these concerns out early on. I became too naive in my own assumptions and hopes about the ride. As I said before, Disney shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt in situations like these. It's best to assume the worst, hope for the best if you want, but not allow that hope to blind you of major red flags right under your nose.

Though I do know you have other reasons to dislike that particular person. I'm not in the mood to get into big fights with people today, i'm just preoccupied with being disappointed at the final product. And regretting the cautious optimism I had for it.

Reposting in this thread:

Just watched the video -- I think it's a solid attraction, but I also think it's a definite downgrade from Splash.

That said, I wasn't expecting it to be as good as Splash (that's a high bar to clear), and it could have been significantly worse than it is.

The biggest issue is that it's very empty in places, and that the AAs aren't really doing anything. Even the band members seem quite limited, and the humans (and Louis) are mostly static. They're generally just looking at you and gesturing.

I also personally think they should have just used the traditional 2D animated versions of Mama Odie, Louis, and Tiana for their screen appearances -- I understand why they didn't but the animation does not look good.

EDIT: I actually think screens/projections in general don't work well in this attraction (except when used for the fireflies/background), which may actually be the issue rather than the animation style of the characters. When it's used for characters in the foreground (or even in the background in the finale) it's a bit jarring and doesn't fit in well with the surroundings.

That was really...meh. A lot of empty space and not enough animatronics, which is a bummer because the AAs are the best thing about this attraction. It's not atrocious, but it's boring.

I wonder if the Imagineers behind this had more in store for this that got swept under the rug by budget restrictions set up by the higher-ups.

Edit: It bothers me how they play Almost There twice, before the first drop and after the big one.

I think the Laughing Place/shrunken-down section is where the ride went off the rails. Instead of Mama Odie shrinking us to find smaller critters, I would have had Dr. Facillier on the screen be responsible for shrinking us. The Laughing Place segment could have been the friends on the other side trying to claim us. Mama Odie could still appear on the lift hill, but instead of merely unshrinking us she could have been used to defeat Facillier and/or the shadows.

If you take Splash out of the equation and just think of this as a new ride, this is so much better than Navi .

Not really a fair comparison -- this is an E and Navi is a C. If it wasn't better than Navi, it would be a complete disaster.

That said, I actually like most of the set design etc. in Na'vi more than this, but I also really like Na'vi and think it's better than most recent Disney attractions from that standpoint.

They don't want to bring back Dr Facilier since his character is gone....Yet we hear Raymond singing and his character is gone. :banghead:

We could have made a "wrong turn in the bayou" and stumble across the shadow man's caverns as he's about to cast a spell on us ascending the lift to "are you ready?" But, somehow the spell backfires on him as you decend into the falls..

I had heard whether this is true or not it was actually going to be more limited at first and they went back and added more to it feeling the pressure to pull this off replacing Splash. So take that as you will

Personally I think this could have been much better. Why they didn’t just take the movie storyline and run with it I have no idea.

As @GhostHost1000 just mentioned, the original rumored budget for this attraction was about half, if not less than what they did spend. It was originally rumored to be very screen heavy, I truly think WDI "pulled out all the stops" in their eyes. Take that as you will.
