Thoughts and Prayers please...

I never really felt too comfortable posting my personal issues in these forums...but I got to thinking of the power of prayer and the number of people that read these and I decided it would be okay.

My father has a mass in his stomach. The doctors did a catscan but they dont really know what it is and they dont want to do a biopsy because it is contained and they are afraid if they puncture it they will poison him. They do know that it has to come out. They have told him to expect it to be cancer. He had an appointment with a (loser) surgeon who doesnt want to do the operation because the mass is too big for him. So once my dad finds a surgeon and has this mass removed we'll know more. But waiting around is...there's no way to describe it...I feel sick to my stomach all the time with worry and I'm so distracted that I'm actually behind on my school work (that NEVER happens).

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you So much

The power of prayer is very strong. I will keep your father (and your entire family) in mine. I'm sure your dad's doctor can give him the name of a reputable surgeon. If this is not the case call the hospital and ask for their physican's referral service. It is very important that your dad feel comfortable with his doctor. If it is indeed cancer he will need your support. I'll pray for strength for all of you.

Thank you.
He has an appointment with another surgeon, but not terribly soon. Hopefully he'll get it pushed up.
He's already even picked out his cancer hospital...I think he thinks he's going to be really sick.:( He even bought me a new car yesterday. :lookaroun really random if you ask me.

Tell him to make sure he is on the list to be called if there is a cancellation, then he can get his appointment moved up. Positive thinking will go a long way towards his recovery. (my mom fought her cancer for 8 years and she never gave up fighting.) He is doing his homework. Picking out a hospital with a good reputation for oncology (cancer treatment) is what he should do. Though you have no definitive diagnosis ( that won't come until after they biopsy the mass) its always good to plan for the worst case scenario. Doing some research on your own may give you an idea of what you may come upa against. Your dad is facing his mortality right now, buying you that car is his way of letting you know how much you mean to him. Make sure you take him for a ride, maybe for some ice cream or to one of his favorite spots.

I know all the family's focus is on your dad right now, but try to keep to as normal routines as possible. (it will be hard). Don't forget to take care of yourself. If you ever need to talk or have any questions (both my DH & I are nurses) please feel free to pm me.

Alicia--I will remember your father also. My Dad had cancer 10 years ago in his kidney. I can tell you from experience that a positive attitude by him will work wonders in fighting it. Also, a good attitude from the family is also important, so get back on your school work and show him that you are doing your best and that you will not let his condition pull you down.

Hang in there!

First Update

my dad just called me to tell me whats going on.

The meeting and everything with the loser surgeon took 2 or 4 days...and my dad has another appointment on friday with a new surgeon. My dad is tired of waiting, so he told me that he's going to go to the emergency room tommorow and complain of severe pain and tell them that he wants to be admited immediately and tell them the name of the doctor thats going to be taking care of it...he's sorta trying to force the surgery sooner...Friday infact. Im pretty upset right now and I cant even go home to be with him because I have soo many assignments due this week. One is due tommorow and one is due on wednesday and my jerky teacher just gave us 3 for friday.
im going to write all of my professors an email and see what i should do.

thanks again to you all for your support and prayers

Whenever major blood vessels are involved it becomes a little trickier to deal with, so I'm not at all suprised that the first surgeon doesn't want to deal with it. Better to stay with the specialist. I know its hard, but please try to think good thoughts (your dad, too). Don't be suprised if they want to try radiation &/or chemo first. Maybe shrinking the tumor may make it easier to deal with. I'll keep you family in my prayers.

hmm
no one has mentioned anything about treating the cancer. if it even is cancer

thats interesting. it would be wonderful to shrink it first, it seems to be getting bigger everyday.
scary
