Things you hate Disney for doing

Removal of the Main Street Electrical Parade. It was a favorite for a lot of people. They shoulda made a newer version of it. Spectro is ok, but nothing will compare to MSEP, other than Dreamlights out in Tokyo.

Ok, I just can't not say this.....

One thing I found disappointing about Disney is that they have a truly wonderful place to go and have a good time and then they let people come and visit who do nothing but complain all day.

Anyone else agree??:(

It did not make me cry, but it had far more energy than it's replacement. Kids was a much better show.

-Lastly, the age old Song of the South debate. With all of the things they do, why can't they take the old stuff and PC it up for a release. I have seen it, and it has faults. But I think it could be saved. It is really a sweet movie. Although, it is offensive too. [/B]

I've seen Song of the South a number of times and do not see what is offensive about it. Sure the whole slavery issue at the time the story is set was, to put it mildly, abominable, but in the film itself what is offensive?

I don't like to use the word "Hate" so I'll just say this.

A few choices Disney has made over the years have been dissapointing to me such as:

They stopped the Walk Around the World Bricks. The whole Idea behind this was to make a pathway around all the Monorail resorts with these bricks and all of a sudden they just stopped selling them.

I don't care if people want to buy the tiny little Leave a Legacy tiles, but what Disney chucklehead executive decided to put them on gaint stones right in the front of EPCOT where there used to be such a beautiful view of Spaceship Earth with flowers and a fountain?

World of Motion <sigh> I miss it.
Horizons <sigh> I miss it.

Here's things I don't like that have been done at WDW:

1. The train at AK is does not have a real steam engine as only Walt Disney would have approved. It is gasoline or diesel and sounds like a lawnmower. Looks great, but is phoney.

2. Billboards placed around WDW property that hawk park thrill rides. Goes against the idea of WDW to have a park-like setting and not be another old Anaheim. Leave them on I-4.

3. Closing 20K which was superior to the Disneyland subs.

4. Closing the Skyway.

5. Too much traffic. Monorails should have been extended instead of building parking lots at newer parks.

6. Downtown Disney too contrived, so-so shops.

7. ToT overrated.

8. AK park not up to Disney standards. San Diego Wild Animal Park near me here in California just as good, minus forced themed rides.

9. Changing EPCOT World of Motion for Test Track. Where's the Disney touch? Too Six Flags. And don't dare think about a coaster replacing landmark Spaceship Earth attraction!

10. Grand Floridian too expensive compared to when it first opened.

11. Buzz Lightyear, cheap kid's ride with dumb guns. I preferred If You Had Wings for which the ride was originally built. A family ride, not just for kids.

12. World of Sports doesn't belong at WDW. Ditto: Race Track

13. Not enough moderate-priced hotels.

14. MGM/Disney Studios backlot tour still a joke compared Univeral Hollywood, a real movie studio, not a fake one thrown up just for a park experience.

15. EPCOT not adding more countries such as Spain, Sweden, Brazil and Russia.

16. World Showcase still is nice, but Future World is a mess compared to 1982 original version.

17. Not building the private commercial airport that Uncle Walt originally planned in 1975.

Believe or not, I still like WDW and could come up with a much longer list of things that I do like.

Really? That's really sad. Many of the shows and background music within the parks are based upon the music from their movies!

It bothers me that there will be no more songs to sing along to.

I agree, I miss 20K.

Also, can you tell me what happed with the skyride. I just knew it was gone one day. Did not know the reason.

The Skyway was closed, mostly cuz it cost alot to run and mantain, and was very labor intensive (much like 20K). Many people will say it was closed because of the accident, in which, before park hours, 2 sevicemen were working on the platform at both stations. The guy at the Fantasyland station started up the ride, without the knowledge that the guy at the other station was still in the path of the buckets. Make a long story short, he held on as long as he could, and it wasnt long enough. He did die from the accident, but thats not why it was closed.

Some more things I dislike with a passion about Disney:

--They are slowly trying to do away with the Sour Mickey Gummy Ears!!!:fork: ...There bringing in candies like Spree, and Sweet Tarts, and putting them in the RED Goofy Candy Co. bag

--The fact that Epcot serves the crappy Disney pretzels, while Sunset Blvd is the only place you can get a Superpretzel (MUCCCHHHH better than the WDW ones)

So why do they still churn out dreadful straight to video sequels with zero plot and badly drawn animation. Plus have the nerve to charge full whack for a watered down product?

I was so glad to read what you put. I agree with you 100% in what you wrote. I could never hate Disney either and deep in their hearts neither do any of the people who wrote that they HATE whatever because if they truly hated everything, they wouldn't go anymore. They just are dissappointed with some things that went up in place of their "favorite" attractions. My opinion is some of the thing that people wrote such as I hated that they took out 20,000 leagues made me realize the reason they do that. I thought that attraction was the worst i had ever seen. So i'm sure other people did also. That is two different opionions on one attraction so for every I love there is an I hate. Things will get changed. Some of my favorite attractions are gone also but I love change so I deal with it. I love some of the new ones and I'm also a little dissappointed with a couple but I still and will always LOVE Disney!!! It's my passion and in 40 days I get to go again and be a little kid again!!!!!! And I bet the "new" attractions keep bringing people back to check them out!!!

I think after several people commented on saying "Hate" is a bit strong of a word it's now hopefully taken as read.

However I do genuinely hate to see the results of the cuts in maintenance. All the others are minor gripes in comparison.

I strongly disagree with SpongeScott. Just because there needs to be change doesn't mean they should rip out classic rides & throw them in dumpsters. The kind of change that should happen is things to improve rides (not trash rides) & expansion.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, that could not have been the reason it closed, especially because it was before park hours.

Regarding your comment about the candies. I use to love to get redhots in the plastic cubes. I use to get one every trip. I have not the last couple times. If they still have them, I will have to revisit that next trip. I also remember getting rock candy on a stick on Main Street and watching the 3:00 parade when I was a kid. I guess that is something else that makes WDW great. It was the only time I got to have crystalized sugar on a stick. :slurp:

Things I dislike:

- Getting rid of the penny arcade on Main St.
- No more MSEP
- Early park closing hours
- A lot of DTD
- The stuffiness @ the GF
- Stopping the Disney Club
- Making sequels! Walt never wanted them...
- The sprawling of value resorts
- No more Minnie Mia's or Mickey's Kitchen :(
- The revamp of the Disney Store

There's probably a lot more, but I'd rather not dwell on the negative for too long, anyway. ;)

I agree with this strongly. The floats in Spectromagic are nice enough, but the music can't compare to the Main Stree Electrical Parade.

When I went on my honeymoon in 1993 I was so excited to see the Main Street Electrical Parade. I had not seen it since my last trip in 1985. I find out when we get there that it was replaced with Spectromagic and was very dissapointed in the parade. On our last trip they had brought back the Main Street Electrical Parade (from DLand) and it was great to see. Now it is gone again. Does anyone know why it is gone again?

I'm not really that picky so the only thing that bothers me is when they close down a ride/theater and there is no progress on that area for new attractions. I would like to see 20K lagoon into something same thing with the old Skyway building, the Timekeeper and the Galactic Theater (even though they open sometimes).

ahh, this is what discussion boards were born for....:)

Remember that guests are surveyed as to what they want and don't want in a park. These decisions are not reached flippantly or haphazardly by Disney higher-ups. I would imagine that demographics are considered, finances/revenue are considered, increase in park attendance is considered (how likely would you be to come back to the park if we did X?), and other things. They don't just come onto this forum and read our opinions to find out what we like and don't like. My point is that studies are done and they don't rip out rides just to ________ someone off or put new ones in hoping that you'll never return to the parks again. Changes are made people the majority of people ask for it AND it will bring in the bucks. As for improvement, I guess that's not a priority for what the people want. Yes, in some cases, that's too bad. Let the masses speak!

One thing I don't understand is when a film is banned, people get upset & say things like "we should have the right to see the movie". Yet, the same isn't applied to rides. Why is that? Why does the movie fan have the right to see his/her favorite movie while the ride fan has to put up with his/her favorite ride getting destroyed just to please the "average person"?
