Things you hate Disney for doing

I think a lot of people misunderstand the theme of Dinoland USA. While Dinorama may not be what you would expect from Disney. The area fits the theme of Dinoland perfectly. And far better than the tent ever did. Dinoland is supposed to be a small town near some interstate on the Midwest or there about. Dino bones were discovered in this town at what is now the boneyard. Because of these discoveries the Dino Institute came to town. Mean while in an attempt to cash in on this find Chester and Hester turned there gas station into a dinosaur themed store. You can still see the garage doors and gas pumps there today. They also turned the gas station parking lot into a typical tourist trap. With dino themed fun.

While you may not expect asphalt and carny games at a Disney park. They fit with the theme perfectly. You cannot say that they do not fit in with the them of the area. The only thing you can say is that you don't like the theme of the area.

Pan, if you tell me that that was the planned theme for Dinoland, I have no reason to doubt you. But I have to say that that sounds a lot more like an after-the-fact justification by Disney than one of its more traditional well-thought out themes. I was at AK in April, 1998, and the park felt empty. Even taking the fact that Asia was no where near complete out of the equation, the park felt like it need a lot more. I think Dino-Rama was Disney's bandaid response to those kinds of critiques.

If the original plans called for midway rides and trailers, then I stand to be corrected. Otherwise, bring on the steamrollers. I'd love to see an outdoor attraction with animatronic-dinosaurs. Kind of like IOA's River Adventure. Don't get me wrong, I know that takes a lot of $$$. And judging by the $50M cost of Dino-Rama, a real attraction would probably be in the billions. But unless the area is popular, and it sounds like it might not be, then Disney shoud make a change.

I believe i remember that dinorama cost approximatly 10 million not 50. As far as the theme goes. I find it hard to believe that this is a after thought theme when everything about the area when it opened supported this theme. From Chester and Hesters store, to the dino institute. and most definatly to the surroundering buildings that continue this small town become tourist trap thing. like it or not I think this was their plan all along.

Love it or hate it, its there, and its not going anywhere anytime soon. The thing pan said about the theme is absolutley correct. If you ever took the walk out of the Dinosaur (CTX) shop, and turned to the right, and took that shortcut to Dinorama, it helps. You see the old fashioned Coke Machines, the cheesy signs, and the old music. As for the cost, each of the PW coaster's prob coast 3 million. We have two of them, so, thats 6 million. The themeing on the cars, and tracks, plus the cost for extra cars, that could be somewhere around 3 or 4 million. Then we have the queue house for PW, and the FP hookup, which it was opened with. Bring that to 15 million, just for PW. Then we go over to TS, which has a queue house, and a giant themed center of it. Im really kinda clueless as to how much this would cost, 5 Million maybe? Ok, thats 20 million. We got the giant orange dinosaur, the green one, and the other one, alll guarding the entrances. The permently parked cars. That'll be 27 million, and then you got the games, walking characters, the sideshow act and the props they use from time to time. Not to mention, they had to put that giant wall up to separate the coasters from the parking lot. Then theres advertising (which I'll admit, they did an aweful job with). And then, theres all the other costs associated with it. Im probably completely off with these prices, but, it wasnt a cheap project. Im sure they would of made a better ride of area, but keep in mind, they used there space very wisely, and the Dino Rama area is very close to the parking lot. They did the best they could, and its better then an empty space, or another giant shop.

But...atleast we have Everest coming, so who'll care about Dino-Rama anymore?

My number one gripe with the Disney Corporate Monster’s treatment of our favourite parks will have to be the obvious cuts they made to Maintenance. (I’m sure in the hope that the CEO and all his cronies could pocket the saved cash for themselves.) Where once the parks were pristine, there are chunks that are peeling and in dire need of attention.

Go into any shop in the parks and you will find the same products on sale. For example - where once you went into the shops in Frontier Land to find western paraphernalia and associated goods then now have candy and kitchen accessories that are in every other shop in the place.

As has been mentioned, ruining part of Main Street to gain more retail space – to sell the same junk you can get in every other shop.

If you don’t want a burger, or any other bread related meal from a counter restaurant in Magic Kingdom your choice is very limited. (Hooray for Epcot). Why, when everything else in the park is well done can they still not get it right at the counter restaurants?

A personal one is the cutting of Future Corps. Though I have to say Tomorrowland Countdown are great. Shame they don’t put their performance times on the listings. At least you can get them from Guest Relations.

Having Timekeeper closed on my last two visits.

I love Animal Kingdom, the theming, attractions and animals, especially gorillas and tigers. (Bar the Chester and Hester monstrosity).

But for the most part I have come back from a terrific couple of weeks there and wish I was still roaming the parks searching for a non-cheeseburger lunch.

Enough about Dino-Rama, which I actually don't hate. I just don't love it. Here's what I don't like:

1. The American pavillion. Boring and too simple. Food is too limited.

2. Getting rid of AE. Only because it will be closed when I am there.

3. The fact that the Seacabs have been shut down for years. Do something?

4. I know this is blasphemy, but am I the only one who was dissappointed as a kid to find out that there was no ride in the Castle? I remember the first time I was there and I was like, 'that's it, it's a tunnel?'.

I hate how they have put up McDonald's stands in the parks. I think it just really takes away from the magic and surrealism of the parks.

I also don't like them taking out KK and the ORIGINAL Imagination. These were both IMHO new aged classics. They were fun but educational. WHen I was little I loved the brocolli that sang Cha CHa Cha!

Maybe they can add a Cinderella dark ride to it...

Walt didn't hate McDonald's & there was almost one made in Disneyland (in the 50's), so what's the big deal?

Yea, atleast the Mickey D carts are themed:lol: ....Its amazing they charge 2 more dollars for something that costs next to nothing outside the gates. But, thats Disney magic, and I buy the MC fries all the time in the parks. The Disney fries stink, all except Casey's, and those are incredibly greasy, so, I like the Mickey D fries

1. While I don't really have a problem with the Mcdonald's in the parks. I absolutely hate the fact that there is one on property by the all-stars

2. I hate that they merged PO and Dxl.

3. I hate that they changed Ctx to Dinosaur.

4. I hate that they closed Dreamflight, Horizons, and World of Motion. Even though I do like their replacements.

5. I hate that they left Animal Kingdom without the Discovery River Boats, rather than finding a way to improve them. You have got to admit that they do look great going around. And that some awesome views could be had from them. Especially while turning the corner towards Africa.

A little bit more off of my list-

1)Closing the SeaCabs. What was the reason for this in the first place? It was the only nice touch to the mostly-boring Living Seas.

2)Building California Adventure(remember, this topic includes DLR too!). WORST park to ever be built, Animal Kingdom is even better. Waste of a whole day. Been there once and vow to never go back unless they do some big changes. They could have done A LOT more to the park. I would have rather had WestCOT.

Dismissal of the 2003 Osborne Lights < very bitter about

I, too, am very bitter about no Osborne lights this year. When I was at WDW in May, my friend and I went to MK and he was all like "I want to get my hair cut at the barbershop while the 3 o'clock parade is coming down Main Street!!!"...okay, so off we go to MS USA around 3...and I say, "So, Jase, where is the barbershop?" (knowing that the cul-de-sac where it was had been filled in) and he says "It's up here on the right..on the...right..where is the..WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?!!? WHERE IS THE BARBERSHOP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT HAVE THE DISNEY PEOPLE DONE!??!?!"  I suggested maybe they moved it and we should ask to which he responded bitterly "I just want to go home. As if the stupid Emporium wasn't already big enough. Stupid stupid stupid."

I found the barbershop's new location the next day.

1. Horizons to Mission: Space
-----
Don't hate me for speaking my opinion, but Mission: Space is pure and utter crap. Horizons was the best attraction ever. It's kind of sad to know that the best has already came and passed.

2. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride to Poo...ur, Pooh.
-----
Pooh is crap, Toad was great.

3. World of Motion to Test Track
-----
I don't mind Test Track too much, but WoM was one of the best, highest quality attractions ever. We lost something really good for something average.

4. Dreamflight to Buzz Lightyear
-----
See #3.

5. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to...um...NOTHING!
-----
Anything is better than nothing.

6. Original Imagination to current Imagination
-----
Strike that last one, sometimes, I'd rather have nothing than something.

7. No 2003 Osbourne Lights
-----
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

8. Animatronics and music
-----
Something that Disney has been lately lacking.

9. Doing sequels to classic Disney films.
-----
Enough said right there.

10. Closing Alien Encounter
-----
I really liked that show.

11. Opening Carousel of Progress and Timekeeper only seasonally
-----
I think that you catch my drift.

Yes, I am a very bitter person.
