There's A Human in the Human Tank: A November 2011 Trip Report

So here we are, it’s June, and I’m just now getting around to posting our Thanksgiving trip report. Sigh.

I was MIA on the boards for the first few months of the year mostly due to chaos and craziness at work. Don’t those people know that’s when I get most of my trip reporting done?! While work has slowed down quite a bit since the first of April, we have remained crazy busy at home. We bought and moved into our house in mid-December so quite a bit of time has went into all that that entails, from painting, to making curtains, decorating, purchasing new furniture, etc. But that’s not the only thing that’s kept us busy…

Because, you see, there’s a human in the human tank!

IMG_2559.jpg

And well, we’ve been doing our best to prepare for the little one over the course of the last few months. So, please forgive me, my time has been spent nesting, buying every adorable baby item I see, and designing/pinning the cutest nursery on the planet.

The details...
- The little monkey is a boy, and we’re keeping his name a secret for now. But rest assured, he does have one!
- I’m at the end of my 37th week… ACK! That means, full-term. So really, he’ll be here any day now.
- He’s due to arrive on July 2nd and he’ll likely be introduced to the world via Instagram! Brett’s account, or mine, you never know.

We’re already planning his first Disney trip. You know, because that’s the first thing you do when you find out you’re having a baby! Granted, after doing the math, it became apparent that he actually came home with us at the conclusion of our Food & Wine Festival trip last fall. And he’s returned twice since, which leads us to this particular trip report – so let’s get to it.

This time around it’s not just Mr. and Mrs. Hollybelle, but Mama and Papa Hollybelle, as well! Also known as Kim and Rick! Here we all are, on one of our previous vacations, at the famed Maho Beach in St. Maarten:

IMG_3676.jpg

We planned this trip around Thanksgiving because it gave us some vacation days to work with. With Brett’s current job, he gets next to no time off, so we’ve begun to find ourselves at the mercy of ridiculous holiday pricing when it comes to booking vacations. Initially, we had made our reservations for Port Orleans French Quarter, but without an AP rate, the price was a little tough to swallow. So when my mom came across a rock bottom deal for the Dolphin, we jumped on it and switched resorts.

As has been the case with a few of my last reports, this one is going to be heavy on the photos and light on text. Heck, I’m doing good to remember which parks we went to on which days.

So, as the anticipation over upcoming summer vacays mounts, is everyone ready for a healthy dose of holiday spirit and Christmas decoration?!

Loving the trip report as usual! Wanting a kona club right about now (at 9am!) I'm not sure I would have been very nice to travel with first trimester. More than anything I just felt horribly fat all the time which made me extra tired.

Love how you told your parents! I totally understand. I mean besides just saying "I'm pregnant!" There really isn't another way to lead into that conversation? I did that with everyone. Sooner than I wanted to, my hubby couldn't keep his mouth shut for 15 minutes after I showed him the test. I was more afraid to jinx it I guess.

I can't wait to find out more about this baby! You said the name was a secret. I wanted to do that too. But my hubby once again has a big mouth. Lucas Scott. Lucas cuz we like, Scott is Ian's middle name. Brett has already taken up to getting right into my belly and saying in his best vader voice "Luke, I am your bubby!" This kid literally has no chance.

And you also said that there are some jungle book characters incorporated into the nursery?? LOVE!!! We are doing nemo. Once we move, we have a lady who is going to do a mural over the walls, which will be fabulous!

Looks like you were still able to do quite a bit on your trip! I guess short of roller coasters and margaritas, the rest is fair game!

Ok I officially am too obsessed with the baby aspect! I can't help it. It's just so exciting! I will pay more attention from now on lol.

That's cool that you guys were the only ones on the Segway Tour that morning. Did your folks have a good time with it?

Aww...I didn't know your leggings had Mickey on them! At first glance I thought they were a cute abstract pattern but when you posted a pic I was like They're even cuter now!

I can totally relate to Brett geeking-out over the Horizons butler. I don't have a lot of Vinylmations but all the ones I want are the Park Stars. :p I do the 40th anniversary one with the park logos on it and I'll definitely be on the look out for more when I'm there.

Speaking of geeking-out, I'm still geeking-out about your baby news. You guys are going to be amazing parents. I can't wait to see a picture of little guy with his first set of mouse ears!

Ok, first of all, how did I not know you were pregnant!?! You can't keep something like this from me Holly... I open a TR expecting to read all about your adventures in Disney... and then BOOM, you hit me with this news.o_O My emotional heart can't take it! So happy for you guys!!! Nothing like your first baby. And you're having a boy (my first was a boy)! *love* Glad to hear the pregnancy has been well... I too, wish the same for your delivery and recovery. And you look great pregnant, what a great picture of you both for the baby book.

I can understand the exhaustion, I didn't suffer too much with my first pregnancy but my second one just about took me down. I don't know if it was because I was still sleep deprived from the first baby or what but I practically dragged myself around for eight months (I had preemies both times).

Loving the TR so far... nothing wrong with a little Christmas in June (somedays we're still having Christmas weather around these parts)!

I agree about the Cars scene in LMA but both my kids loved it and barely blinked the whole time McQueen was cruising around... so maybe it really is for the kids!?!

My thoughts exactly on the Garden Grill. We just ate there on our past trip in May and it impressed!!! We had eaten there a few years ago and it didn't really stand out in my mind. The reason I booked it again was b/c the kids really wanted a character meal and a lot of the ones we liked were already booked up (at least for the times we wanted). I also like the family style nature. When you take kids to a buffet (and you'll discover this soon enough) it's a lot a work for mom (& dad). Having to get up and down a dozen times, going back and forth to the buffet, etc. I spend half my meal standing around with plates of food in my hands. And then I'm rushing back to the table to make sure I don't miss a character and to get that pic! Family style is so relaxed. I love that they bring the food to you and there's lots of it if you want more. And the character interaction is one of the best at Garden Grill. We saw the characters at least twice (some three times) and they spent so much time at our table.

Yeah, the cream puff is not that good. You need to get the Napoleon or the Chocolate Mousse.

So, any plans to take the new baby in Sept.? :D

Not gonna lie, I've got my fingers crossed our little family makeup will look a lot like yours one day. ;) Thank you, Erin!

Ah! - well, it's not a bad mix. I highly recommend it! :D

I've gotten further into the report - First, your parents are so cute. (I hope they don't mind me calling them cute!) So sorry about your dad's eyesight. My BIL in the Philippines has had similar problems and lives with the knowledge that he may one day lose sight in one or both of his eyes. He's had great success with this natural/ raw diet thing though - some specialist he sees in Dubai recommended it and it has helped him greatly. Something about enzymes.....that help your eyes.....? Anyway, my BIL has also had to give up many things - one of his favorite activities was scuba diving, but that's pretty much out now, due to the pressure on his eyes. So not fun for him (or your dad) :( It IS fun to be 'along' for his second trip though!

I love your tights - you totally pulled them off - so funny because I didn't even know they were Mickey tights until you posted the close up, but thought the patterned tights looked great with your outfit. It's Mickey without being in your face Mickey - great job!

Edit - Never mind! I just read page 2 and answered my own question!

Loving your review of the Swan and Dolphin. Ever since our Beach Club trip, all we can think is BC/Boarwalk/Epcot resort area is the place to be.......

Love those leggings n I would totally wear those anywhere n not care lol,n I'm older than you .Okay now onto baby tee hee ,everyone will have something to say but you will know your bnaby better than anyone else so it's your call i've taken babies at 4 months 6 months and 11 months and in my experience 6 n 11 were much more pleasant than at 4 months but it depends on the baby,so I would just say do what feels right to you,if hes a happy upbeat baby you might be allright going sooner.i will say that the Baby station in Magic Kingdom is awesome!!!The Epcot n Mgm ones are meh and Animal Kingdoms baby center is the most quiet n least crowded ( or used to be) Also I vote for a newborn pic to be posted on to this TR once you have him because none of us will be able to wait for his first disney trip lol, congrats again and all the best to you!!!

Brett has already taken up to getting right into my belly and saying in his best vader voice "Luke, I am your bubby!" This kid literally has no chance.

Megan, I'm pretty sure that the only reason Ian is going with the name Lucas is so Ian can say, "Luke, I am your father" in a Darth Vader voice

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! So happy for you a Brett! Awesome trip report as usual. Since I could have a Disney wedding, my hubby and I are doing a WDW/Disney Cruise Line combo for the honeymoon in October and I can hardly stand the wait for it! It will be his first trip so I'm going to try and tone down the some of the "kid stuff" as he would say so I can get him hooked and he'll want to go back :)

Shannon! Thank you so much. How's Will? I hope he's getting to feeling better. So tell me... are you training for the full marathon this year? I'm seriously contemplating it. I know it would make more sense to do the half six months post baby as opposed to the full, but I really want in on the commemorative run and I'm super curious about the character palooza that may take place at the WWS during the race. Your thoughts?! Either way, hopefully, we're both there that weekend so we can meet up. Cruise roomies unite!

Thanks for asking about Will...he is actually all better! (Knock on wood.) He's just started exercising again - which had been impossible for the better part of a year and was driving him crazy - and I have been dropping some not-so-subtle hints that it would be most excellent if he'd take up running and do a Disney race with me! ;) Fingers crossed.

Speaking of Disney races...yes, we're booked to be in Disney for Marathon Weekend. Princess Craiggy and I decided to go Goofy. He still hasn't signed up yet, but I'm registered. So you think the mile 20 surprise is a character palooza too?! That's pretty much what I was thinking - just tons of super rare characters or something. Eep!

That would be very cool and impressive if you did the marathon! I can totally understand why you would want in on the commemorative race - the possibility of tons of characters and the guarantee of a special medal?! *thumbs up* But I must ask...what do you think of the new course? I can't say I'm completely on-board with it (specifically - losing the morning run in Epcot, which I'm pretty upset about, and all the twists and turns through WWoS - which I feel like won't be shaded at all...however, I do like that the out-and-back at mile 20/21 has changed), but what can ya do?! Besides, it's a Disney race, so it'll still be super fun.

So yeah...we'll be there. Hopefully you, Brett and your new sidekick will be as well!! I would love to meet up! :)

Ahh... I knew there was a reason the S&D weren't popular - I used to think they didn't get EMH, but it's the DME that they don't get. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I can see why it would be an issue for a lot of people.

Yep. Will can get a teacher discount, and we always price it out and start to get excited, but when you factor in whatever that nightly resort fee is that they charge and whatever it would cost to get transportation to and from the airport (because I am NOT about to make the drive to Disney from Ohio!), it just doesn't make sense for us. If we found something better than the discount, maybe we'd change our minds...where did your mom find the deal that you guys got?

Anyway...

LOVE the Segway tour. Besides the races I think this is one of my favorite things we've done at Disney (it's definitely Will's favorite). How fun that you got a private tour! I can totally relate to you saying that you were sad to return your Segway when it was over. They are just so much fun!

The picture of your mom opening the Vinylmation is too cute. She looks so excited! :)

OMG...love the leggings! Too funny. And I think it's totally okay to wear them in Disney!

Oh my. Kona lunch...YUM. How are they (in my opinion) so much better for lunch than dinner?! Speaking of YUM, you've convinced me that we need to try La Hacienda sometime soon. Those nachos look incredible!

Hmm...thanks for the heads up on the cream puff. I've always debated getting one, but now I know better. How misleading!

So very glad to have you back on the boards, and can't wait to see a picture of the little guy when he arrives! :D

Congrats Holly and Brett! What wonderful news!!! I too was wondering why you had dissapeared...and actually wondered if you were preggo. I'm use to reading a Hollybelle report every so often so when there isn't one in a LOONNNGGG time...it was noticed :). So glad that you were absent from the boards for a happy reason, not a sad one. One last note on the baby...having a boy first is awesome. I have one boy (7) and two girls (6) (3) and he really protects them. It's a wonderful thing.

Ok, on to my non-baby comments. It's so nice that you can get another chance to go with your parents to Disney and have your dad really get into the magic of Disney.

I loved the Segway tour pics. It's nice that you had your own personal escort for the trip and I would think it was a nice way for your dad to really get to see Epcot. We are going with my parents (who have never been) next year and I'm trying to think of special things to do to make them fall in love with the world. My dad will turn 70 on the trip so maybe a Segway tour for his birthday is the way to go.

OMG, the pic of your sandwich from Kona looks AWESOME!!! We haven't eaten there but I'm thinking we will have to add it to the list for our next trip.

Love the Mickey leggings. Totally awesome!! Also, are you and your mom wearing matching shoes?? If so, cute.

Can't wait to read the rest of your report.

I'm going to add to the "Congrats" on the impending arrival of your baby boy! I think I scared my DH and DD's, because when I read that you and Brett are expecting, I shrieked with joy (and I don't even know you two)!

As always, enjoying your TR and am lovin' the Mickey leggings (where did you find them?)!

(still working on my first pre-trip report, so hopefully I can accomplish it this summer!)

Ahhhh Jess told me that you had posted the TR, and I'm FINALLY able to get on and read it! YAY babies! :) I was so excited when I saw that on Instagram with all your precious baby bump pictures. Seriously, you are too cute.

And of course, loving the TR! So much I want to comment on... but... being at work makes it hard to remember where they all were! Though, I do remember that I definitely agree with the Cars thing in LMA, no matter how much Dan loved it lol. It took away from the idea of the show.

Ok, update soon. I need something to occupy me as I try not to hurt myself too much walking around work. ::insert old eye roll here::

You are going to have a fabulous time, I have been documenting on here about my trips for so long I totally understand....and I am honored that you would go back and read, and I am glad to help. We are 31 days away from our next adventure down there....so super excited...

Oooh… only 31 days! You’ll be there before you know it. I’m just so excited for this new way we’re going to be experiencing Disney. The leggings are from Forever 21 – not sure if they still have them in stock or not. And thanks!

I love your leggings!! I would never be able to pull them off, you totally do!!!

Thanks, Allie_Marie! They were super comfortable.

Loving the trip report as usual! Wanting a kona club right about now (at 9am!) I'm not sure I would have been very nice to travel with first trimester. More than anything I just felt horribly fat all the time which made me extra tired.

Ok I officially am too obsessed with the baby aspect! I can't help it. It's just so exciting! I will pay more attention from now on lol.

I know what you mean about feeling horribly fat – honestly, the worst part of this pregnancy for me was when I was in the “is she preggers, or has she been hittin’ the margaritas too hard?!” phase. I absolutely hated it. Once it became obvious that I was indeed pregnant, I felt a good bit better about being out in public. Hahah!

So funny that your hubby couldn’t keep his mouth shut, due to all that excitement! Same goes with him blurting the little one’s name all over the place. Brett has let it slip a couple times but, luckily, it went unnoticed. It’s hard though because when it’s just the two of us we say his name all the time (and we named him about two weeks after finding out we were having a boy) so it’s second nature now. I’m shocked we’ve made it into the home stretch with it still a secret. Your Brett is going to be such a fun older brother!!

I went with a subtle safari theme for the nursery – I say subtle, because my attempt was to make it as anti-baby as possible. Hah! That probably doesn’t make much sense, but the usual pre-packaged baby stuff kinda creeps me out. So I searched around for pieces that can be used elsewhere throughout our house once he outgrows the nursery. Two of the art prints we have for the wall ended up being Jungle Book related (fitting perfectly with the theme) – one is an original piece Brett found of King Louie, and the other is some old concept art of Mowgli and Papa Bear playing in the water. Your Nemo mural sounds fabulous! After settling on colors (aqua blue, bright green, and deep turquoise with accents of orange) and getting some of the different fabrics into the room, I realized we could’ve easily went with a seas theme ourselves.

Totally don’t mind the baby obsession – I’m right there with you!!

I do the 40th anniversary one with the park logos on it and I'll definitely be on the look out for more when I'm there.

Speaking of geeking-out, I'm still geeking-out about your baby news. You guys are going to be amazing parents. I can't wait to see a picture of little guy with his first set of mouse ears!

My parents loved the Segway tour… this was their first time on Segways, but not their last. On a cruise this past April they ended up doing Segway tours on two different stops (Grand Turk and San Juan, I believe). So, I’d say our little venture was a success.

Little update about the Horizons butler… a while back Brett instagrammed a picture of two of his Park Stars. It just so happened to be two yetis. Well someone messaged him last week and asked if he’d be willing to trade one of the yetis. He told them the only thing he’d trade for would be the butler, and the guy was like, “Done!” So, just a couple days ago his Horizons butler showed up on our front porch!! Huzzah!

Thanks for the leggings’ love!

Ok, first of all, how did I not know you were pregnant!?! You can't keep something like this from me Holly... I open a TR expecting to read all about your adventures in Disney... and then BOOM, you hit me with this news.

Oh, and happy Father's Day to Brett!
0clip_image008.png
(I like the Park Starz too! I'm not really into Vinylmation but I love that series.)

My apologies for not giving you a heads up, Sarah! J Next time! I’m getting excited about all the boy stuff – I can honesty admit that it freaked me out at first, but now I’m finding it to be so much fun. The exhaustion has been rough (both in the first and third trimesters), but I really just keep counting myself lucky because I’ve had a pretty easy go of it compared to what I was expecting.

As for the Cars scene, your kids are certainly not the minority. It was very clear to us while sitting there, that the scene with McQueen and Mater was by far the most exciting thing ever to so many of the kids in the audience. Therefore, I can’t condemn it too much!

I’ve never been fond of buffets, but have always found that I don’t mind family-style service. Your description of taking kids to a buffet only increases my likelihood to want to avoid them as much as possible. Agreed on character interaction… Garden Grill is by far the best opportunity for multiple interactions with each character – it really must be the set up.

Oh the cream puff… so, so bad. I thought it would be akin to the cloudberry horns at Kringla, but boy, was I wrong! I’ll take your word for it and try the Napoleon next time.

And actually, there may be plans to take the baby in September! Seriously. If we do, it will be in late September. Gonna be there then?!

Ah! - well, it's not a bad mix. I highly recommend it!

Loving your review of the Swan and Dolphin. Ever since our Beach Club trip, all we can think is BC/Boarwalk/Epcot resort area is the place to be.......

They won’t mind it at all if you call them cute. Personally, I think they’re pretty cute, too! As for the eyesight thing, you’re right it’s hard not to get to experience things, but it’s totally not worth the alternative.

After reading that a couple of you didn’t even realize they were mickeys, I had to go back and look at the pictures. And you’re right, in photos you really can’t tell. But, they’re about as obvious as could be in person. The mickey heads are huge! But they do blend well into one another to create something a little more abstract!

The Crescent Lake area is DEFINITELY the place to be. I want so badly to stay at the Boardwalk on one of our next few trips, but I just don’t know if we’ll be able to stomach the cost. I’d like to see another really good deep discount for annual passholders!

Oooh… baby stations – something at Disney that I have yet to experience. And to think you can see and do it all in 25+ trips! I have a little personal blog so I’ll be sure to come back and post a link for anyone who wants to follow along and see baby pictures. That way I don’t cloud the forum and flood people who didn’t “sign up for it!”

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! So happy for you a Brett! Awesome trip report as usual. Thanks, Steph! Oooh, Disney in October for the honeymoon?!? So awesome. My favorite time of year and a great time to introduce a newbie, especially with the Food & Wine Festival in full swing. And you guys are going to love DCL (if you haven’t already cruised with them). My recommendation for that trip is to hit up some good signature dining and utilize your resort!!

Holly, Love your TR!

CONGRATULATIONS to you & Brett!!! You will be fanatstic parents!!!

Definitely would make great house/sleepwear though!

Oooh, you’re doing the Goofy, too?! I can’t keep up with you and Shannon. As for the leggings, they really are great “housewear” - super comfy.

Congrats Holly & Brett!

Thank you, thank you!

Fingers crossed.

Glad to hear Will is doing much better! And hooray for the Goofy! Do you think Princess Craigy will train for this one? And listen to his nursing podcasts along the course? That is still the funniest thing ever to me – who does that? I would be so NOT motivated.

Right now, my thinking is that I will sign up for the full marathon and then if it turns out that I’ve taken on more than I can handle, I can transfer it to the half marathon, which seems like a very manageable and attainable goal six months post-baby. I didn’t know you could do this, and I’m still skeptical about it, but it does say on the website that you can transfer your registration to one of the other events in the same weekend. I need to call and inquire about this. I’m watching the website and noticed that the full is already at 53% capacity.

I’m totally thinking characters at WWOS. What else could it be? Now, whether or not they’re super rare remains to be seen. As for the course, I hate losing Epcot in the morning, because I enjoyed that pass through Epcot so much more than the one at the end. But the good thing about it is it’ll really feel like progress getting to the MK so quickly. AND if WWOS is a character palooza than that will be a much needed pick-me-up at a very crucial time in the mileage. I remember hating life when I hit the Studios because I was counting on the characters and we were met with so few, so having something exciting to experience during “the wall” would be nice. I haven’t looked closely enough at the course to see how much it winds through that area, but nothing could be worse than the winding Studios during the W&D, so it probably won’t be too bad.

I’m not entirely sure where she found the discount – I think it was through one of the usual travel sites like expedia.

I like Kona for all three meals, but our most recent dinner there (May 2011) was so-so in comparison to previous meals we’ve had there. And yeah, lunch is pretty fabulous.

AVOID the cream puff at all costs!

Congrats Holly and Brett! What wonderful news!!! I too was wondering why you had dissapeared...and actually wondered if you were preggo. I'm use to reading a Hollybelle report every so often so when there isn't one in a LOONNNGGG time...it was noticed

Thank you so much! I do still have another trip report waiting in the wings (February 2012), which I’ll likely get posted sometime before our next trip, seeing as how it’ll be awhile before the next trip. I like the idea of having a boy first, too. I’ve grown up with an older brother and it’s a good dynamic to have.

My parents bought APs for the wedding trip and I was so excited because they even took a SOLO trip without us this past March just before the passes expired. I took this as a sign that they enjoyed Disney, to go without us. Of course, mom has really started to learn her way around and get an understanding of how everything operates and what is where – seeing as how we took two mother-daughter trips last spring/summer.

I highly recommend the Segway tour and would really encourage you to utilize the first tour of the morning. It’s definitely worth it to get up and head out early for that.

Our shoes don’t actually match, but upon looking back at that picture, they sure do look it, don’t they?!

Thank you so much! My apologies to the hubby and daughters. J The Mickey leggings are from Forever 21. I got them on sale last fall though, so I don’t know if they still have them in stock or not. Hooray for your upcoming trip report!

Ahhhh Jess told me that you had posted the TR, and I'm FINALLY able to get on and read it! YAY babies!

I was so excited when I saw that on Instagram with all your precious baby bump pictures.

How about, YAY baby. Babies, plural, freaks me out quite a bit! Thanks, Courtney! My mom keeps laughing that all my instagram shots are “headless”, but hey, that’s what works when you’re taking the photos yourself and working with a square format!

I totally know what you mean about there being so much to comment on but then getting caught up and not remembering it all. I do this ALL the time with trip reports. The last update is on the way!

Day 4 – Saturday, November 26: DHS and the Magic Kingdom

On Saturday we awoke early so we could make it over to the Studios for extra magic hours. The line of folks at the boat launch was getting pretty deep so Brett suggested we walk. He kept saying he didn’t think the boats ran for EMH, and while this didn’t make sense to me, it looked to be the case because we walked all the way to the Studios without even the first boat catching up with us.

We were met with quite the line when we arrived at the turnstiles at 10 til 8:00… so glad we weren’t still back at the boat launch waiting to board.
