Theme park parking rate increase

Effective Sunday, the automobile parking rate increased to $10.00 per day at Walt Disney World theme parks. I had heard about the increase a few days ago during a track talk when working at Pleasure Island, but saw the new signs for the first time when going over to work at Monorail and passing through the Magic Kingdom tollbooth.

Wow. All the prices are being raised right now.

Still, it's less expensive than the parking at most Six Flags parks (I paid $16 two years ago).

I wouldn't call it nickel and diming but it is getting out of hand down here with the price increases. While I can't confirm it I have heard that SeaWorld Orlando may be going to $13-$15 for parking.

hrm, now it makes the regular AP look better than the Seasonal one that doesn't include parking. Now i need to go about 20 some odd times to pay the difference... arg

Jeez. That was one of the few things that was still cheaper than Disneyland. They should make an announcement that the proceeds of the increase will go toward building that Monorail system everyone is always throwing around false rumors about.

P.S. Love the avatar, mkt. I can't stand that show.

I'm mean, gosh, Universal is charging $10. We can't be showed up by those losers, what with their moving walkways, piped in music, 3.50 soda machines, valet parking, and the omni-present free backpack hawking credit card salesmen. Because the Disney experience starts at the toll booth. Year of a thousand fees! Perhaps they'll be giving away parking vouchers...

I again will continue to refuse to pay, and now feel even better about myself. What a despicable vile action on Disney's part. This is the kind of thing that makes it harder and harder to justify to my hard working poor friends why they should ever visit the parks. I'd love to see a day when people just refuse to go en mass to parks and they completely lose their shirts.

We just got back from Six Flags N.E, the regular parking was $15 but the premier parking or whatever it was-closer to the gate-was, hold on to your chairs......$25!!!! We had to park there because my husband is in a wheelchair and the handicapped parking is there, but thank god they only charged us the reg. fee. I almost passed out. So I guess in the grand scheme of things $10 isn't that bad considering Disney is about 100 times better than Six Flags N.E.

I've always thought the parking fees were ridiculous to have anyhow. I know they make a killing on them, but still ridiculous. It's not as bad though as when at Universal and stayed at one of their hotels, even though I can park for free at Citywalk I had to pay 12 dollars a day in addition to the 130 dollars a day I was already paying just to park at the hotels. At least Disney doesn't charge me to park at the hotel as well.

I went to 4 amusement parks last summer and the parking fee for all of them were between $10 & $14. I don't think that raising Disney parking to $10 is going to make guests turn around and leave. Locals just have to learn to carpool. Think of all of the free stuff you get at a Disney park that you don't get at other theme parks: Monorail, ferry boat, shuttle service, 2-3 daily parades, etc. If you stay in a resort you get a parking pass anyway.

Interesting that WDW parking is now as much as Universal. I always thought that Universal kept theirs slightly higher because you get to park in a (covered) parking deck -- unless you're me and you somehow always get stuck parking on top.

Didn't WDW just raise their rates not that long ago? $1 per car is a lot of revenue, considering how many cars they park out there daily.

One of the things I always find interesting about the perceptions of WDW parking prices is that it varies depending on what part of the country you're from. Folks from NYC, for example, figure that $10 to park for a day is no big deal becuase they're accustomed to expensive parking fees.

Well just like everything in our world the prices will go up for everything. As the cost of maintenance of the lots goes up and the cost of living goes up so does the cost.

I live close to KIng's Dominion in Virginia. Parking there is either $10 or $15, and that park is no where close to being WDW. So, I guess it isn't that bad. Besides I don't have to worry about parking because we stay on property.

I guess they figure that if you can afford to drive, then you can certainly afford to PARK.

Considering the alternative is to keep on driving around.

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
$10 isn't much at all, when i lived and worked in Chicago i had to pay about $20 everyday for parking just to go to work.

Its gone up.... $24 in my parking garage... and $28-30 near the Sears Tower.
Thank god I have a monthly... that brings it down to about $12 a day.

We showed up yesterday, handed the guy $9 and he said, "It's $10." I asked him since when and he said since today (Sunday). We're only Seasonal AP holders but jeez....at $10 a day to park, now we're debating upgrading at least one ticket of the two just for the parking.
