The War Is Over.. Congrats Roy Disney

It's a darn good thing Roy's back with the company. So far, Bob Iger seems much too stiff to be the public face that Walt and even Eisner were for the company. Maybe Iger will prove me wrong, but when I saw him on Monday night sitting a few seats down from the President at the Ford Theater Performance on abc, I had to chuckle. Don't get me wrong, I like him, he just doesn't seem like he'll be as good in front of a camera as Walt, Eisner and Roy were/are.

Anyway, Roy didn't have all that much power in the company before he left. The stalemate was completely pointless, especially for saveDisney.com with all the good news coming out of the Iger Camp lately. Nice to see both sides wiseing up. Roy IS Disney and it's great to have him back with the company. Hopefully he'll be back partying at Disneyland on the 17th and at ever press release and on every Television Special from now on.

Today is a great day. The dawn of a new Disney era...

Roy's "NAME" is Disney.. that's all... Roy never was Disney... but then again... that's an old story...

Walt was a nervous wreck on camera. He hated being on camera, and admitted to doing a terrible job of it. Maybe this is a good thing if Iger is the same way?!?!? :hammer:

Man, I go to Disney World for 2 weeks, and this happens. Are the planets aligned?

First of all, this is not a win for SaveDisney. Michael Eisner, Bob Iger, and the Disney Company got everything they wanted. Roy has been shut up and he has bowed to their whim. Like someone said, Roy got what he wanted. He is not part of the Disney Company. (I believe he only had two goals in mind, to get his job back and to oust Eisner) I am very happy with this because now I don't have to hear Roy complain about everything, after all, we have DTroops for that (just kidding :p).

Good use of a 600th post!

I'm glad to hear this, perhaps we can get some animation back at the studios (Orlando) either traditional OR computer! I'd be happy with either!

I agree. I think that Disney got the best of it not Roy. And what about poor Stanley Gold who stuck his neck out and stuck with Roy. Where did he end up. Maybe they are going to let him be "Janitor Emeritus" for the office of the "Director Emeritus".
(definition of Emeritus from the American Heritage Dictionary---One who is retired but retains an honorary title corresponding to that held immediately before retirement.")

I think this has to do with this lawsuit that was to take place. I think Disney new that it was going to hurt or knew something that could hurt Roy and decided to let him have something so he would shut up. Why else would they give an exact number of years (ie 5) before they can say anything again. And then making Roy and Stan say how they really think Eisner did so much for the company. Something Ain't right!?!?!?

GUYS, DON'T FLAME ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! This sounds to me like hush money, I thought Roy and Stanley were in it for a takeover and not a puppet position. It seems like little more than a paycheck position and a guarantee to shake up the board every so often. Unless this is an iceburg and we're only seeing the very tip I can't help but think Disney and Gold saw a dimming light at the end of the tunnel and jumped into the next passing offer. He hung them out there when he resigned from the board in protest, but it seems like he just asked the board to hold them for him.VERY WEIRD.I hope there is more.

That is exactly what I am saying. something just doesn't add up and I think we deserve more information.

Sure, I've read and heard about Walt's dislike of his nephew, but Roy is now the face of Disney. If he hadn't been, saveDisney.com wouldn't have been so successful back in March 2004. The point is, The Company and Roy have reestablished ties. By saying Roy is "back with Disney" is not saying that Roy is now running the company or even the board. It is just recognizing the reestablishment of his status as a part of the Company, as powerless as he may be at the moment. Roy has been, is now, and will continue to be a figurehead of Disney, and that's the way it should be. I mean, he was once the hero that saved the Company. Roy knew he had very little power as of late, I'm just glad he jumped back on the ship before it was too late.

Glad to hear its over. I was incredibly skeptical of Roy and Stanely's latest lawsuit against the company and what, if any, good would come of it. I'm very glad to hear that's over and Iger can continue to lead the company, reconcile past relationships, and hopefully continue making steps to diminish the cash-focused company that Disney had become under Eisner in his later years. I'm also glad to hear that Roy has been more or less "accepted" as part of the Disney company family once again.

Many analysts are saying this is yet another example of Iger's ability to mend broken relationships and proof of his ability of being a capable "leader" in that regard:

From http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050708/ap_on_bi_ge/disney_feud :

Disney's performance has improved significantly over the past two years, with the company delivering double-digit earnings growth and projecting similar growth through at least 2007.

Since being named Eisner's successor, Iger has worked to ease tensions with partners and smooth ruffled feathers among the company's own executives.

He is credited with helping to negotiate a peaceful end to the Weinsteins' contract, while retaining Miramax's profitable film library. He has also restarted dormant talks with Pixar's CEO Steve Jobs, who ended negotiations with Disney for a new distribution agreement because of a personal falling out with Eisner.

Analysts praised the development, saying it shows Iger's skills as a negotiator who is able to focus the company's attention on more pressing matters.

"This is another example of Bob Iger's ability to build teams and build bridges, which is indicative of the fact that we will get a Pixar agreement," said Laura Martin, an analyst with Soleil-Media Metrics.

Folks, it's not like Roy and Stanley were collecting unemployment and using food stamps. Roy is wealthier (due to his stock) then Eisner.

I think the only thing anyone had on Roy was that with Eisner gone, Roy simply had nothing more to rail against, and he was smart enough to know it. While he was hurt by the sneaky way Eisner fired his parting shot naming Iger president (and responded with law suits), Roy knows he has no more bullets left in his gun.

With so many of the combatants now gone...this truly is a new company. Lets hope the wishes expressed in this thread of a return to animation, kissing and making up with Pixar (BTW has anyone noticed how noone has rushed in to court Pixar over this period?), George Lucas and others, and returning Disney to both a successful business and the magic are all real possibilities.
