If anyone ever thought that Roy or Stan ever had the best interests of TWDC in their plan, then you are naive and sadly mistaken.

Bingo.

If he really believed that statement he agreed to he'd be part of the July 17th festivities, which in my mind would be a symbol of the end of this whole mess. But if he doesn't want to be part of it, fine, let him race his boats while the real members of TWDC celebrate the past and look forward to the future.

I am not letting it go that easily. I want a response from him.

Maybe I am taking your post too heavily (and please inform me if I am), but I think you may attack the posters more than you attack their arguement. Bring out facts to credit your ideas and discredit the other side's ideas. Judgement of another debator (in this topic of discussion, at least) is not necessary.

Thank you, Rayray.

It is a very common practice in the corporate world to "promote" dead wood to the role of "Director Emeritus" and "Consultant". The entire idea behind this concept is to get them out of the way so real work can be accomplished. So it is with Roy Disney and so it has been done.

Agreed.

This is really putting spin on a win for Disney and a loss for Roy and Stan.

According to the section in Disneywar dealing with the Disney board trying to force Roy out, they offered him the role of Director Emeritus and Consultant way back then. And at the time, he was insulted. He saw it as an offer to be paraded around at Disney functions as nothing more than a symbol.

I guess he's changed his mind since then since he is now accepting the exact position he rejected a couple years back and putting a positive spin on it.

Point is though that if he trully felt those bad things he said (and not just about being associated with the company again), he would not have made that agreement.

Exactly. There are still 3 days left. Regret cannot happen until after the event passed. (After all, where there is a will, there is a way)

Maybe among the media, but not among sites like this.

I agree.

I agree with you. I think the major reason he came to that agreement with TWDC is because he was hearing people say the lawsuit had no chance and was a waste of time. When you are passionate about something, you follow through, until there is no more fight left.. Roy is too old to carry this fight out too long.. The lawsuit would have been the final straw in it all... Actually, the end of the "fight" should have been the stockholders vote of no confidence in Eisner, Eisner's removal from the chairmanship, and Eisner's announcement he is stepping down... The other side of this is maybe TWDC knows the board conducted a farse of a search and didn't want the truth about things to come out in court... There are two sides to every story.. We can only speculate what the reasons for Roy/Stan and TWDC to come to this agreement.. The episode is over..TWDC/Roy/Stan are moving on, so should we...

And as far as Roy not going to the 50th celebration: I stated I believe he should be there... but he made a decision not to... He may regret it, he may not... But, just as Eisner is subject to ridicule for his bad decisions, Roy should be too, and yes, not attending is a bad decision on Roy's part..
