By the way... I remember when the two days off meant... two days off from School.... Who ever knew Disney would be the place to go!!!

If we're naming towns...

I'm orignally from Freehold, which is in Monmouth County, about 15 minutes from the Shore.

Wow, there seems to be an abundance of teachers and NJ natives in this thread. Proud to be both!!

Speaking of fruit, for what it's worth, these Georgia peaches I've heard so much about don't impress me. They're too mealy. I prefer the Jersey peaches myself (and the corn, and the tomatoes, and the cranberries :animwink: )

First of all, NEW JERSEY REPRESENT! Cinnaminson love!

But anyway, my parents and sister were at the world for "Jersey Week" and they said it was the least crowded time they had ever gone. They said the longest they waited was maybe 40 minutes for Soarin' and Everest.

My wife is a teacher also, we were in WDW. I guess you pay the price for having short vision. By the way, how was the convention?? We had 3/4 of a day with rain, it seems Jersey had alot more. Sorry :animwink:

It was my first convention (I got my job right out of college this year!). I went for one day, the rainy day, then surfed the other days. I live at the NJ Beach, but would have prefered to spend my time at the Caribbean Beach, haha. Glad you had fun.

How was the surfing? Hope that made up for the not so great convention. So have you made plans for another trip. We already have our airfare down, we need to make resort ressie's, and arrange our way back. All for April, during the flower and garden festival, alot of fun, you may want to try that one.

Not old, just vintage.
Yep, Those were Jersey people all right!

You probably shouldn't say things like that around here...There is a very strong NJ contingent on these boards.

South Jersey is nice.

North Jersey is nice.

Atlantic City... not so much

You don't go to AC for the scenery, you go for the gambling! (Which I happen to be pretty good at...:lookaroun )

Well, we have several things in common....I live in Freehold (have for most of my life) and I am a teacher-to-be!

Boro or Twp?

aaaaand since we are naming towns, I live in Freehold, I work in Manalapan, I was born in Lakewood, my mom was from Bogota, and my roomate grew up in Maywood. That enough towns? :lookaroun

Was down with the family the week before and the weekend going into Jersey week. The crowd definitely picked-up but probably just seemed more crowded by contrast. Wouldn't say it was too or overcrowded.

And didn't wait for more 30 - 45 minutes for any ride.

We had a great time arriving on the 28th of October, but by the time we got to the 4th of Nov, the size, and attitude of the crowds had made a decisive shift.

On Thursday the 2nd, there was no wait for food at the hotel, or much wait if any for rides at MGM, Epcot, or MK (we did mega-park hop that day).

By Saturday morning, (I know weekends are always busier) the wait for RRC was 50 min and EE was over an hour.

At dinner Sat night, the POR food court was a mad house and the people were much pushier and louder than they had been all week. Not gonna say it was because of NJ. However I did spend some time as a Califonian living in NYC. I observed that most people are sweet, but live with a survival of the fittest mentality that makes some folks a tad bit abrasive/agressive.

We had a great time, but I was glad we left when we did!!

THose from New Jersey don't call it "Jersey Week" we call it "NJEA Week."

The influx of people during that time was not just because of the NJEA week, it was also because park attendence is up a lot from previous years all around. You also came during the end of Food and Wine and Super Soap weekend.

I must say though, it was nice meeting all those people in the parks that knew where my hometown was without having to describe it in relation to Philadelphia, Atlantic City and Cherry Hill. It was also good joking with other Phillies/Eagles/Flyers fans.

We should start a New Jersey Teacher thread since there seems to be so many of us on these boards! I'm representing exit 74!

We used to go every NJEA convention week, but that was back when we used to get a whole week off, not just a dinky day or two.

AND....what's wrong with AC? Good food, good bars, good entertainment, shopping, beaches, and then there's the casinos too! What more could you want?

Exit 131 here.

Jersey week could be alot bigger. Not all school systems offer the enitre week off. Technically we get off for Election Day, then Thurs and Fri for the NJEA convention. Some school boards only allow those 3 days off, and parents opt to let their kids miss school for 2 days in order to get a full week's vaction in....

I was there this year, from Mon to Fri. It wasn't that busy at all (at least to me). Only a 30 min. wait for Dumbo, E:E, or Soarin' - not bad at all.

As for rudeness, I didn't encounter any. Besides, it couldn't have been as bad as those Brazillian school groups.

Haha, I used to work production gigs in AC, it's nice as long as you don't have to venture away from the marina area or the boardwalk between the Hilton and The Showboat.

I wish I could have gone to the conventions at some point, but I teach in the Catholic schools, and we have our own convention, which is foolishly the same week as our Easter vacation (do you REALLY think I have any desire to combine vacations? haha).

I agree with the sentiments about AC...I love the boardwalk area, and we used to often shoot down to the Borgata for weekend trips. I wouldn't ever leave the boardwalk, though.

Another possibility for increased crowds that weekend...Friday was Veteran's Day, and many schools were closed. That's how I ended up there- our school was closed, and I made a long weekend trip.

Still, I never found the crowds less than manageable. MK was crowded on Saturday, everything else was pleasant. Even MGM in the midst of Super Soaps was fine- you just had to work around the big stage that attracted most of the crowds.

Lots of school districts throughout the south (especially in North Carolina) also had that particular week off. All the parks were very crowded, but it never proved to be a bad experience. The weather was beautiful.

On behalf of all New Jerseyans, let me try to explain it to the rest of you...

New Jersey doesn't have any higher a percentage of rude and pushy people. It's just that those who ARE pushy & rude have raised it to an art form! You can't help but be caught up in their vortex of jackassiness!

As far as Jersey Week goes, that has less to do with NJ and more to do with people trying to cram a week's worth of fun in 4 days.

The one bad thing about living in NJ is, whenever anyone outside the state calls us pushy rude obnoxious thugs, we're supposed to smile and take it, and if we take offense, we have to be as polite about it as possible, because to show any emotion is proof that we ARE pushy and rude.

Oh, and lest I forget, Tinton Falls. Monmouth County. In between Red Bank & Asbury Park...

(sigh) Exit 105...

The crowds result from three major events:

1) Jersey week

2) The last weekend of the Food & Wine Festival

3) Soap Opera Weekends

The parks are jam-packed for four days!
