Well it's your claim.. not mine :) What I know is films like Frozen and Maleficent have been in the pipeline for YEARS.. so to think they were getting away from princesses while those three films were being worked on... seems.. contradictive.

I'm not trying to be right here, but did u look it up. Just type in Disney gets out of fairytale or princess business and see what comes up on google. I'm reading articles about it right now. it even said frozen was being put on hold back in 2010 because it was a princess movie, Im glad it didn't stay on hold.

He is right, I think it was back around the end of 2010 but WDAS did say that they were not planning on producing any more fairy tales for the foreseeable future after the release of Tangled. There was an article, I think in the LA Times, that said adaptations of The Snow Queen and Jack and the Beanstalk had been shelved but there was obviously a change of plan, no doubt spurred by the success of Tangled, that led to Frozen and the currently in-development Giants.

EDIT - found the article: http://articles.latimes.com/2010/nov/21/entertainment/la-et-1121-tangled-20101121

It looks like I'm not the only one who thinks a Disney-TW merger is a good idea and, if the complexities of such a deal can be sorted out, could happen...

Thanks for the laugh. That was really, really funny. Very out of date seeing as how the Superman lawsuit is already settled once and for all. But still funny.

It was a joke, right?

I think your memory is twisting things :)

They modified their new fantasyland plans because it was too focused on girls.. but that doesn't mean they were leaving that genre.

From Nov 2010:

“Films and genres do run a course,” Pixar Animation Studios chief Ed Catmull, who along with director John Lasseter oversees Disney Animation, told the LA Times. “They may come back later because someone has a fresh take on it … but we don’t have any other musicals or fairy tales lined up.”

No, I'm serious. But, if you got a good laugh out of it, consider it an unintended benefit of the post.

I'm currently putting together a post showing how subsidiaries of both companies, if combined, could enable synergies of exponential proportions.

You are right. After Princess and the Frog, Disney publicy said they were backing off princess movies. They renamed Rapunzel to Tangled. When it was a hit, they decided princess were okay as long as they weren't marketed as such.

OK, because enough people asked (and because I have a 10-day supply of antibiotics, insert your own fanboi joke here, and because tonight's episode of Revolution was weak) I bring you a daily view into the insanity that is the Disney Twitverse ... a little segment I like to call:

Fun With Tweets:

(P.S. Feel free to vote on a Tweet of the Day. We'll give the winner a 1997 Epcot guide map, free day at River Country and personal sponge bath by the Lifestyler of their choice!)

People on wdwmagic badtalkin' my favorite bakery... I'm about to throw things.

Hi @WDW1974 ! My name is Erica, or as you may know me already... @ericarose on twitter. I don't know if I should be flattered or alarmed that you consider me a part of the WDW Lifestyler crowd. After all, we are neighbors in South Florida - perhaps we should meet for lunch one day, but maybe you are afraid I might throw something at you? ;)

I originally wanted to reply to the classy @Captain Chaos in regards to his "straight jacket" post, but I see he has since deleted it. Thank you both so much for taking one of my tweets out of context and claiming that I have a mental illness. Since you seem to be a fan of my tweets @WDW1974 , I'm sure you might know a *little* about me and that sarcasm runs rampant on my twitter timeline, as well as personal tweets with friends about topics that have nothing to do with The Vacation Kingdom of the World.

Not sure if you recognize me, but I have been a member of the WDWMagic Forums since 2002 and I am still quite active on here. Your threads are actually my lunchtime enjoyment, since I can't watch General Hospital at the office.

Thanks again for mocking me on a discussion forum which I've considered a "safe place" since I was in middle school; little did you know that some of the people you make fun of on twitter are the same people who also love to catch up on Disney news here. And if you are so infatuated with my thoughts on twitter, perhaps we should get coffee one day in Fort Lauderdale? I'll leave my straight jacket at home. :p

All my best,
@ericarose

I'm not saying you are.

Dead Dom DeLuise fan here on the other hand is. Apparently emulating a mentally unstable character from bad Burt Reynolds movies is somehow the poster child of mental health.....

Imagine if other boards decided to come over here and start digging up quotes to post someplace...man, they'd have a field day with some of the nutjobs here.

There's plenty of overlap to drool over. But it's not realistically going to happen. If you enjoy playing Fantasy Merger, knock yourself out. But don't expect anyone to take it seriously.

More please. Where did you go? :)

glad to know i was missed!

life picked up like crazy. but also, i've been pretty turned off lately. as you know from my postings, lack of show and MM+ was part of it. i feel like the price hikes, the TIW cutbacks, and some experiences at my last visit ranging from disappointing to unacceptable really have hindered me in checking in. i missed you all though! especially this thread.

this isn't my issue, but i just find a comment like this to be pretty counterproductive. and truthfully, as someone who cut down a lot on my social media usage and has found it has made my life infinitely more enjoyable, someone copying and pasting a tweet of yours probably shouldn't bother you this much.

Oh don't get me wrong, it doesn't bother me. It amuses me. Did I say I was upset in my reply? I think its hysterical!

If the Comcast-TWC merger is approved, Disney is seriously screwed. The only way out is either they have to find a way to control content delivery (via a big telephone, cable, or satellite company), or for them to control more content. I don't see the first option happening. Disney knows content and would do a great job managing the TW assets.

Why would the Comcast-TWC merger screw Disney? Disney isn't a cable provider. The newly merged company would still need Disney content. Also, did you see the recent Disney-Dish deal? That seems far more relevant than some fantasy merger that is never going to happen.

Because they can deny Disney channels access to most of the cable systems in the US, or use that as leverage to force Disney to lower the fees per network Comcast currently pays out to Disney.
