If being hip means I know and accept the existence of grown men fondling over a childrens show about friendship and ponies I think I would rather not be. Also I get the jimmies reference.

"Maximum overrustle"

Just want to stop in and introduce myself... hi. Not sure if I have yet.

I like to think I too am a faux one percenter just like Spirit. Well, maybe not so much faux. Just pleased my entire 3 day stay at the Grand Floridian will be reimbursed since there's a conference. Pity the compony will be giving Disney money, though. Excited to battle crowds at Potterland where it won't be on someone else's dime.

Heard some interesting minor details about what's happening at Disneyland the other day first hand and got a keen insight just how ****ed up Disney is. For example, who would have guessed those Mara projections in Indy took EIGHT years to get implemented? Sad to here the Fantasyland dark ride refurbishment budgets have been significantly cut at DL as well.

Anyways, just wanted to contribute something other than FP+ debates. Can't wait to go back to TDR this December too.

ahhhh I miss it. I know it'll be packed but I can't wait to be back.

that is a gorgeous shot, thanks for sharing!

Walk around the building. I love my A/C and the area should be cooled sufficiently enough.
honestly, my biggest beef of the temp differences.. were the buses.
some buses were at like 15C while outside was at nearly 38-40C.
These temp differences can kill anyone's health in hours.

The buses can swing temperatures rapidly based on how many people are in them. Also if given the choice between a hot or cold bus during the summer. I choose cold every time.

I haven't heard that it isn't.

I will say it was VERY annoying last year when 'Angie' and I stayed at the DAK Lodge Villas that the AC would shut off if you didn't move around (think about that during the night when you are asleep). It was either too hot or too cold. It's insane that you can't set a thermostat down to say 72 degrees (like I would at home) and know that it will be 72.

Of course, most fans/guests won't when they are riding PoC or SSE and they know that the temp isn't as cold as it is in say ... the Emporium because Disney just shuts the system off at night to be ... I mean to save the green $$$!!!
You have to buy a balloon to keep the A/C running while you sleep, it sets off the motion detector on the thermostat.

The beauty of WWoHP is that the merch is more or less exclusive. Excepting the airport store, you can't buy a chocolate frog or a Hufflepuff scarf and gloves anywhere else. You're not going to find a knock-off version at Target or Wally World. So in the grand scheme of things, not a lot of Potter merch is sold (there is some licensed stuff but nowhere near the level of a Disney Princesses or Peanuts), but a large amount of what is sold goes for top dollar from a few acres in the middle of IoA.

Not exactly exclusive. I can purchase chocolate frogs and every flavor beans here in Omaha

They were thinking about flushing 2 billion dollars down the toilet but decided to build attractions instead. Different priorities.
I'm not sure if you are thinking about MM+, but Magical Express is the transport from the airport to WDW.

Something like that to Uni would be a big boon to their business.

I've put stuff out on past threads ... I don't have the info handy, but will try and get something up later in the week if possible. But I'm not sure what you are looking for ... I'm not saying I have proof Disney is in bed with the NSA on a massive city-wide scale mass surveillance project (but wouldn't that be uber kewl if they were?) I just recall seeing things that made me ask a simple question: why?
The NSA is the only organization that know how many unique visitors WDW and USF have.

I hate that too...and it's not just Disney that uses thermostats like that now too. I guess it's all about saving money and being "green" ....or in my opinion not caring about guest comfort. The first thing I do before staying at a Disney resort is figure out how to bypass that stupid sensor thing and turn it down where it's practically snowing at night

Balloons are forbidden in AKL due to animal choking risks. I've never had issue keeping the room cool, but I have never stayed in AKL later than May so it could just be my weather luck. I also have two children who don't sleep very well, so it could be their tossing and turning that keeps the AC on as well. I have heard, however, of people having success by tying streamers or ribbons to the ac vent to have a similar balloon effect.

I've been working on an article that discusses how Disney is forced to deal with this nostalgia while Universal has no such obligation. Thankfully, it seems that Universal is using this as a competitive advantage to revitalize their parks with new IP. Sure, the shelf life of the IPs may be shorter than what Disney owns, but a lower cost allows for a quicker amortization of the attractions. This leads to new experiences more often. While it's a vicious cycle for Universal to keep building, it's one that can prove successful.
At WDW, nostalgia is a limiting factor at MK but significantly less so at its other Orlando theme parks.

MK can remain the 'nostalgia park' but the other 3 parks are primed for change.

The front half of Epcot is, after all, Future World. Predictions for the future constantly evolve. Meanwhile, there are gaping holes where additional countries should be slotted into the World Showcase.

DHS's 'Hollywood That Never Was' entrance is a perfect introduction to today's Hollywood. The back half of DHS is ideally suited to highlight the latest in film and tv.

DAK is so new that it does not have a nostalgia factor. It can evolve as appropriate. Certainly, nostalgia did not stop Disney from adding Pandora.

Those within corporate Disney who use nostalgia as a defense really use it as an excuse to avoid further investment in WDW.

Disney repurchased $12B in company stock over the last 3 years. You'd think they could spare a few billion to fix WDW. :D

Million and one things we can blame this on. The "everyone gets an award" sense of entitlement, mostly.

Certainly puts Chuck Palaniuk's Fight Club (book, not movie) into perspective.
It's the age of over diagnosis (internet) and entitlement (who knows). Mothers have long been the nurturers so I doubt that's the issue. However, a lack of disciplining in the home and kids that aren't part of a sports team don't help either.

If we haven't all killed each other in a few hundred years, or we haven't successfully destroyed the environment to the extend that it kills us, I'm willing to bet that there's a direct correlation between the fall of society to the first participation trophy.

You're right, I should have clarified. Beyond nostalgia, Disney has other "rules" to fit stuff in with existing themes. Proper places for characters, the themed lands in Animal Kingdom are very limiting, etc. Universal Studios really doesn't have this restriction. As such, their parks are allowed to be an amalgamation of different properties without any protest of thematic intrusions. The last and only complaint of a thematic intrusion I ever recall hearing about Universal was Rip Ride Rock It, and that's only because it's a relatively bare bones steel roller coaster.

In a deluxe resort with rack rates starting around $350/night, guests from around the world—guests who have heard of Disney's outstanding service—have to buy balloons to get A/C.

Does Disney teach that in their guest service classes?
