AAPL and CSCO, CAT and a bunch of other don't feel that way, All you need is one bad event (Ebola outbreak anyone?) and the commercial paper market will freeze instantly just like 2008 and Lehman Bros..

Just imagine the nightmare scenario a patient is quarantined for Ebola at WDW. The place will be a ghost town overnight and all the cash generated at the WDW ATM disappears overnight at which point TWDC is in a world of hurt because as I recall they only have 1-2 billion in cash on hand and that's not going to sustain operations very long in light of the 13 BILLION profit WDW produces for TWDC.
That would be a bad situation, but it's not realistic for a company to plan for something like that.

The cash balance is actually $4B and they have access to bank facilities that are already setup to draw an additional $6B should they really need it. $10B of liquidity is not an unreasonably low number for a company like TWDC. To give some perspective, the entire P&R segment had $8B of operating expense in 2013 (on revenues of $14B). If something like you described happened it won't shut WDW down for a full year and even if it did they have enough money to survive and pay the bills. Would it be really bad for the stock price? Sure. It wouldn't be a death blow.

BTW don't count on Apple sitting on their cash pile for much longer. If Carl Icahn has anything to say about it they will be ramping up their stock buyback program:

First thing I thought of seeing the shot in the field with the "city" in the background was the Prologue and the Promise.

Film has lots of potential but I thought the trailer was pretty dull. Not sure if I should get excited with Lindelof involved.
When it comes to things like the ending of LOST, Star Trek Into Darkness and Prometheus, folks blame him too much and give too much credit to JJ and Ridley Scott. It's as if they think those people couldn't have played a role when in fact they did.

Of course I'd blame Ridley Scott for Prometheus because apparently Lindelof didn't even bother turning in a script for that one ... you can't blame him!

Right, I mean ... you saw the movie ... there was no script ...

Thanks for the details @GoofGoof

It most certainly is incumbent for a multinational to plan for major facilities being rendered unusable.

This winter we had an exercise which simulated a major storm taking down the east coast power grid and telecommunications facilities. so effectively no power/phone/internet for 3 days.

It was amazing especially when all the cellphones were collected from the senior emergency managers explaining that they were now useless because of the cell system failure. And now they were only able to communicate through the radio guys (Civil and Military) it was an eye opener to say the least.

I think you underestimate mob psychology and the inevitable lawsuits on the damage to TWDC and I can't imagine the banks maintaining the credit facility in the event of this type. Business is pretty much the law of the jungle and every man (or company) for themselves, It's why the credit markets froze in 2008. And why cash hoards are important.

Icahn and people like him have done more damage to US companies than almost anyone else by destroying their ability to compete by forcing them to manage their stock price rather than their business.

This is WAY OT - If anyone wants to discuss PM please.

You don't take a fat guy to a buffet. You just don't ...

Dear Andy, I don't love @WDWFigment (aka Tom Bricker) THAT much more than you. He has always treated me with respect and is quite talented (not that you aren't) and I have enjoyed communicating with him and look forward to meeting him sometime. ... As to you ... well, I'm sure you are much prettier than that Michael Crawford dude! :)

Lots of great teevee last night ... from the chronically underappreciated The Middle to Modern Family to the best 'black' comedy for everyone in Blackish to American Horror Story (even if THR's review didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did!)

One of the best stories in REAL media that I've seen on Euro Disney (and why those fanbois and ex-Imagineers who so want to see the place destroyed just don't get reality):

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-...ilout-proves-paris-parks-too-big-to-fail.html

If you think $87 a night at the Pop Century is a great deal, then you don't know what a great deal is.

It used to be that Los Angeles was the city of broken dreams, but I see just as much of that mindset in O-Town. No, moving near WDW doesn't give you a life. It may prevent you from having one, but that's it.

I'm getting worried. I admit it. I expected an announcement this week. ... Yes, I heard rumblings that Disney's latest upcharge 'event' was going live this week.

Finally, some comments from Bob Iger today ... what I find mind-blowing is that he admits that the company wasn't ready for Frozen's success (perhaps he should have learned from the guy he replaced that you expect everything to hit and act accordingly):

It seemed like Scott just presented the actors with different scenarios, told them to do the dumbest thing possible, and built a movie around that process.

When the government wants people to be afraid of ebola (something that hasn't made one US resident ill here while thousands die of the flu every year), what you must wonder is what are they trying to keep our attention off?

Syria? Iraq? Isis? Wall Street? Some regulations or policies being slipped through?

Because, make no mistake, ebola as a legit news story in the USA is a non-starter. And they want it (and have it) leading newscasts nightly.

So ... again, what are they hiding?

Anyone have a link to the required reading?

By the way Spirit, you've been in a good mood lately. Must be the fall, I see you as a pumpkin spice man.

I don't have a link handy. I actually downloaded every page on another computer as I was afraid the ownership of the site might choose to make the pages disappear. They didn't. They're still out there. They come up pretty easy on a typical search.

Good mood? I hope that was sarcasm as I have been ornery as hell -- a death in the family caused by the negligence of others and everything that comes with that --will do that to even a loving, low key, gentle Spirit such as I.

I am sorta over the whole pumpkin spice deal. I think Starbucks started that whole deal a decade or so ago ... about the only pumpkin product I want (which I can't get in FL, but I am on an email list) is the pumpkin cream cheese pie at Claim Jumper (a chain I used to LOVE out west, but has been greatly homogenized and ruined by Landry's taking ownership). I had many a MAGICal meal at their Buena Park locale right across Beach Blvd from Knott's. I should buy Andy a slice of pie there one day ... although I don't know if he likes pie.

Depends on who "they" are!

FWIW, a man died in Texas of ebola.

Why haven't the Epcot fanboys gotten off on the righteous indignation of the biggest problem in the park? The new lighting sign using the LED on the front side of spaceship Earth.

John Hench is flipping over in his grave. It looks awful. It's not even. It's not aimed properly. How can they allow this to happen?

They probably aren't aware of it.

Or, like me, they know lighting at the resort has become a total joke over the last decade plus and they fully expect things to be lighted like the Seminole Middle School AV club handled things.

That's still a humble brag though... he's basically saying we didn't know it was this good.

They had NO faith in the product. They were hoping ... yes, hoping ... that it would do slightly better than Princess Tangled (another film they had no faith in, which is why they changed the title late in the game).

FWIW, a man died in Texas of ebola.

Yes. A man who was Liberian. Who got sick there. Who lied to enter the USA. And who was isolated in a hospital for treatment.

It is a non-story in the USA or should be. Yet they are playing this up like it's the zombie apocalypse ... there's a reason for that.

On another subject, I should have asked Bricker to bring me back a Gelatoni plush or eight ... my fanboi minions would love them.
