OK, so I see I have 49,888 likes here ... And 8 is a very lucky number in my second home of China, so I am going to take that as a good sign considering how crappy the last few weeks have been.

BTW, is it true that @marni1971 is at WDW now? Those crazy UKers ... Only they could appreciate Florida in September (only 4-6 weeks of summer to go!)
First hand eye witness reports confirm he watched wishes last night.

I always seem to do a lot of eating and shopping when abroad. The malls in central Florida seem to be chock full of foreigners buying stuff. Who knew we were all doing it wrong.

I both like and dislike your post strongly, my friend. Probably I am as conflcted as you are over the Tangled toilets taking the place of our beloved quail tile facilities.

Life is more important than anything we are going to chat about here. Believe me, I know that. I wasn't joking about awaiting autopsy results.

But we are here because we all are fans of WDW (some of us more so, some of us the Disney BRAND, some theme parks in general, some of us are simply entertainment junkies). It doesn't make something wrong with us that we enjoy this (yes, I work in media and entertainment, but, no, I have never worked in the theme park business despite knowing many folks and even being hit on by a Disney exec or two!):D;):greedy:

The world is falling apart, but does that mean we can't enjoy life in the very brief window we have for living it? I have made some wonderful amazing friendships due to my time online (and here on MAGIC) by arguing about the thematic integrity of the World Showcase!:D:) I suppose I could have used the time to devote my energies to Habitat For Humanity (oh wait, they only want volunteers that they hand pick so no, I couldn''t be building houses for the homeless).

It sorta reminds me of 9/11 and how for a week I barely left my TV, let alone house, and all I did was watch the horrific coverage. And then one night I switched channels and saw Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and I watched Gene Wilder and I smiled and I laughed and the next day I showered and shaved and left the house. The next weekend I was at WDW.

98 percent of what is on the Internet is likely a total waste of your time, is only good for another one percent , so what does that leave?

I am passionate about EPCOT Center because it truly inspired me. The technology was amazing. And all of those countries? I hadn't been to Los Angeles or the Grand Canyon yet. Those nations were amazing for me to get a true taste of, even Disneyfied (that isn't the same as being puked on by any of Disney's BRANDS of today). I have now been to every country in WS, but two. ... So when I see Disney systematically Separating the place because it is the cheap and easy and lazy thing to do, it bothers me. I may sound like a total Disney geek, but EPCOT inspired me in so many ways. So many ways that Frozen or a $79 after hours snack party with dancing (naturally) will never do.

So, I want to push an agenda here that is distinctly anti-current Disney management. It can (and does) make a difference in the real world (just ask Georgie K if he has to hold one in when I start suggesting there's more to Golden Oak than meets the eye here and to those behind the scenes).

Is it life or death? Nah.

But it's like watching the NFL, restoring old motorcycles or painting on the weekends ... It's a fun hobby that I am passionate about that is just a small piece of who I am.

So, King Poopyhead, stop ragging on those of us who care about the thematic integrity of EPCOT's Norway pavilion. It's not like we're like those fanbois who rub their privates up against EPCOT wall carpeting until they bleed. C'mon. They're just the minions I keep chained in the closet (many of them are happiest there anyway, ya know?):D:devilish::cool:

If anyone else called me King Poopyhead, I'd be offended. But I know you respect my Dis restroom addiction because you bought the coffee table book I edited of WDW restroom concept art.

I don't object to people's avocations. But some of the complaining is disturbing. I mean, you've got people posting about Frozstrom on here and on Twitter for days and days. At some point, it crosses a line and becomes obsessive. And when I see how heated people get...especially the fanbois who just luv EPCOT...I dunno. Seems misguided to me.

As in physically ill? I think you need a break from internet forums.

Which is why I left that thread - because of garbage like that post.. which you've brought over here now. It's saddening to see the community that supposedly follows and is interested in the company, product, and art of Disney parks be so dense when it comes to understanding the what and how that was the core to making the thing that supposedly they are so passionate about.

The high horse on stilts act is old. Really old.

Stick to pinball, or better yet go fight again with @jakeman, it's more amusing.

So when you can't face the points - turn to attacking the poster. Well done.. you've followed the formula to a T

If you can't take the heat.. stay out of the kitchen. The ignore button is right there for you.

EPCOT Center did the same for me.
It meant so much more then just a 'fun day out at a Theme Park' back then.
It was life changing. It left you with a sense of empowerment.
When you left, you wanted to go out into the world and DO something.

Yes, this, exactly! This is exactly what many of us here are trying to convey, and many others (understandably) don't seem to understand.

It wasn't just a place to kill some time, knock back a few beers and forget your worries, it was a place to see all that humanity was capable of, and leave with an excitement for what the future could bring.

I was too young to experience EPCOT Center as an adult, but as a kid it was mind-blowing, inspirational, incredibly enjoyable and like nowhere else on the planet. Calling it a 'theme park' seemed wrong, somehow. It was something different, something greater than that in its prime.

I think the ones who keep the flame burning even more so are those whose lives were touched by that original Theme Park experience and will never forget it's impact on their lives.
It would be nice if a few of the folks still left at Corporate could remember that experience too....and try to recapture that spirit for today's Guests in new exciting ways.

I can't tell you how much your posts today are in sync with my own thoughts and feelings on this... I think lots of us are on the same page, and it shows we're not just a few 'h8ers' trying to put Disney down.

EPCOT Center affected many people on a deeper level than they perhaps realised at the time. It just seems ludicrous to imagine anyone visiting today's Soarin' and Boozin' edition would ever take that kind of feeling away with them.

After the Boozin edition I doubt that they leave feeling anything at all.

Assuming for the moment that you're right and that Epcot was "more than" a theme park, you're still referring to what it was in the 1980s. That Epcot hasn't existed for 20 years!

So what's the big deal now? Is it the realization that the 1982 version of EPCOT Center is never coming back? Well, it hasn't existed in two decades. I hate to break it to you, but...

Great post Spirit. Epcot inspired me as pre-teen. The first time we came back to WDW after Epcot opened I spent most of the trip there. Just in awe of all the things. I remember spending hours in Communicore. I was inspired by Epcot. I realize it was a different time but it truly was inspiring. Epcot is a sad shell of what it once was and the redo of Maelstrom for Frozen is just another example of the cheapness and lack of imagination of current Disney management. Whereas down the road UNI shows what can be done with imagination and proper use of resources and money.

The Nowergian citizens and government could also confront Disney, but if they only shout in their own media circles it won't get their attention either.

Kinda hard if you consider how much cleaning the Disney Media groups get.
They hardly allow anything negative... and if something slipped.. it would be eliminated pronto.

Sure, EPCOT Center died around the time Horizons closed and the giant wand landed on Spaceship Earth and Nemo started polluting the Seas, but it was always declining by degrees, one small element at a time, and there was always hope, whether in new Disney leadership, or new promises, that things would change.

Take away a small thing, one bit at a time, and nobody notices. But when you do that over decades, then stop to look back to what you started with, the amount of change is vast. I think what's happened recently is a lot of people have been reminded to take a look back at how far we've come.

Calling Pleasure Island a theme park is a real stretch...

Ticketed or not, it was not a theme park.

A theme park is an amusement park with a central theme or themed lands that use scenery, landscaping or sets to tie individual rides/attractions and buildings together. PI had the theme, but wasn't an amusement park. I've witnessed some amusing things there, but I don't think that qualifies;)

Many of the early amusement parks centered around dancing with the rides being a later addition.
