I just can't get over the fact that 11-12 years ago I was paying $199 for a PAP (top of line, 365 days a year, parking included) is now $699. There's inflation and there's insanity.

.
I think its time you switch to the Florida resident seasonal pass at $339 with a $286 renewal. I mean, do you really need to be there when school is out?? and we all know there are ways around parking fees

Outside of Potter, all Universal has done in recent years are clones or overlays of existing attractions.
The most recent attraction to open at USF was neither a clone or a redo of an existing attraction. Then comes Potter. Then Kong. All of these are new original attractions.

Everyone I spoke with at the parks didn't mind that Disney spent $2.5 billion on NextGen after I explained it to them. These are ordinary people, not fans like us. I told them people on the Internet would have preferred that they spent that money on new rides and improvements to existing rides. They all disagreed and thought that the $2.5 billion was well spent. I had this conversation with about a dozen people and every single one said that. Go figure!
Who the heck were you talking to?

Anyone I explained the scenario to agreed that $2 billion was way too much money to spend on something like that...and when I explained that DAK and DHS could have been built with that kind of money, people realized there should be more attractions. One guy even said they should've spent it on building two new parks. (I don't agree with that)

Nothing in the next 5 years coming to UOR will be a clone, unless I'm misremembering the slate.

2014: Diagon Alley (with 2 E-tickets)

2015: King Kong (an expanded/improved take on the USH tram tour attraction)

2016: KidZone (most likely)

From there things get murkey. But considering there nothing else being constructed across the globe in their other parks other than Potter, it doesn't look like UOR will be getting any clones soon.

But in original park, "recent years" (I went back about 5 years, I think) have seen the Simpsons Ride (made use of the old ride system, but a very different experience), Rip Ride Rocket (completely new), Despicable Me Minion Mayhem (again, made use of the old ride system, but a completely different experience), the new version of Earthquake/Disaster (overlay with improvements, but a very similar experience), Transformers (completely new to the park, but a clone of the Hollywood ride opened a year earlier). Not a bad run. Even if most are clones/replacements/overlays, they did them well, and aside from Earthquake, they don't feel like just updates -- they are new experiences.

You're forgetting a new night show, a parade, and a new miniland/food offerings.

To the other poster in the thread, I do like Universal quite a bit.

The most recent addition to Universal was Transformers which is an exact clone of the ride in USH, which in my opinion was a weakened replica of Spiderman which opened in 1999.

Potter is original, but they lost a family ride in Jaws in the process of its removal. Kong may be original, we will have to wait and see(I loved Kong 360 in Hollywood).

Disney is getting a Frozen overlay, an updated Soarin, and an all new original land in Avatar(and this is just what we know). Disney and Universal look to both be expanding, and that is a good thing.

I was only focusing on permanent attractions. That said, while the food stuff and Kang and Kodos are fun, the parade and night show so disappointed me that I try to forget them.

Updated Star Tours(first simulator to have multiple ride experiences), Toy Story Mania, Updated Test Track, Captain Jack show, Agent P(which I love), Sum of All Thrills, New Parade in MK, Monster's Inc Laugh Floor, Finding Nemo Musical, American Idol, Disney Junior Live, renovations to Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Hall of Presidents.

Universal added Despicable Me as well(I loved DM and The Simpsons at Universal, Transformers not so much).

You kinda killed your own point. So lets take a critical look at the list you just provided....

Star Tours - Attraction, Opened 1989, Overlay/Rehab/Plussing opened 2010.

Toy Story Midway Mania - Attraction, Opened 2008. Built in conjunction with a clone at DCA.

Test Track - Attraction, Opened 1999. Overlay/Rehab/Plussing opened late 2012.

Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial - Show, Opened 2006.

Agent P's World Showcase Adventure - Show. Originally Kim Possible's World Showcase Adventure, Opened 2006. Overlay Opened 2012.

Festival of Fantasy - Parade. Opened 2014.

Monster's Inc Laugh Floor - Show. Opened 2007.

Sum of All Thrills - Innoventions Demonstration. Opened 2009.

Finding Nemo: The Musical - Show. Opened 2007.

The American Idol Experience - Show. Opened 2009.

Disney Junior - Live on Stage! - Show. Opened 2011. Last Updated 2013.

Space Mountain - Attraction. Opened 1975. Last major rehab 2009.

Haunted Mansion - Attraction. Opened 1971. Last Major rehab 2007.

Hall of Presidents - Attraction. Opened 1971. Last major rehab 2009.

So out of everything you listed, we have one brand new parade, five shows - the most recent opened in 2011, and ONE brand new attraction. Everything else you site is from a rehab or an overlay of an existing attraction, which would be the exact same thing you criticized Universal for.

The parade is what it is. The night show is easily the second best in Orlando, IMHO

I didn't criticize Universal for overlaying attractions, but they are doing the same thing Disney is getting criticized for. The one plus is that Disney still has classic attractions, while Universal guts all their rides every 10-15 years.

You'll have to forgive me for gutting your argument like a catfish, but you need to walk away from this one because the facts are not on your side.

Now, I'm going to need you to back up your statement there with some fact. Gotta remember where you're playing. We're the people who cite our facts, read annual reports and do the required reading. If you want your points to be taken seriously, back up what youre trying to say. Otherwise, you're just trolling for attention.
