Oh, honey, I do wish I could've done like you Faux Top One Percent'ers do. Not in the cards. DH's work schedule wouldn't allow for it not to mention 2-3 weeks without pay this year would've been a lot more money than the cost of the trip itself. Some folks gotta work. Regularly. :p Things should work out better next year on all fronts. Not being a contractor anymore = benefits like paid time off.

That crazy sandblasting is another reason I'm second-guessing going back to DL. I guess I could take the perspective that with the crazy amount I'm spending I'm getting a free bonus microdermabrasion treatment. :cautious:Yeah, the going rates for the Grand are a bit nauseating. I did look into renting points but I think that takes more luck than I currently have. Another reason I'm thinking --> Pass. I'd love to go back but --geez-- it was a LOT of people. Our last evening we just walked away when we could've stayed in the parks until midnight. The Friday night crowd was unbelievable. But hey, good on Disney. They're raking it in over there and doing the parks up right. What we could see in DL was pretty awesome. We found ourselves much more in-love with DCA, tho.

Yep. We bought APs from way.com and I see we got a better deal than we bargained for. I'm very interested in Disney's plans to handle the flux of APs out west. They stopped selling the longer multi-day tickets so people started buying APs instead. Now they have too many APs out there so what's next?

I think you just, unfortunately, wound up at a busy period. But just like WDW and UNI, DLR has fewer and fewer quiet periods. People love the parks and keep visiting.

Still, it is possible to visit when it is busy and enjoy oneself without being in absurd lines all day. We expected to have a few quiet days, but between Goth Day/Bats Day, numerous Grad Nights, schools visiting for end of year trips and, finally, the 24-hour day, that just never happened. It was various degrees of busy every single day we were in the parks (and this past Saturday at Knott's Berry Farm for that matter).

But using FP (the good old-fashioned paper kind!), single rider lines and theme park savvy, we never waited more than about 30 minutes for anything (the long waits were for RSRs single rider line and a midnight Friday spin with Roger and Jessica Rabbit).

I just don't do lines -- anywhere.

As to your Friday night disillusionment, I feel bad. You should have stayed. There are always lines to get in the parks as locals pour into the parks. But, that said, many do not go for the rides and just because the parks are packed doesn't mean that you will find long lines for everything. Just a lesson for the future.

Oh, as to DCL ... I'd look east when thinking of possible new places ... and down too!

It's just the final nail in the coffin for me. Say what you want about Gran Fiesta, but at least it still takes you through Mexico (even if the ride is pretty meh). Frozen most likely will throw away all mention of Norway from the ride.
And since the restaurant has been princessified, the ride will be frozened, and the gift shop will be mostly taken over. The pavilion is dead except for pastries.

What do you mean what kind of response was that? You stated your opinion that you like Saving Mr. Banks and The Muppets more than Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. I respect your opinion and I said 'okay'. I don't know where your response is coming from. I didn't mean for my response to come off as rude. I really just mean okay, I'm not saying your opinion is wrong.
I'm not saying it came off as rude, just... weird. I guess I normally am expecting a more full response which is why I said that, that's all.

That's me.
Maelstrom is...ok. It's a cute little ride, which suits it's location.

Frozen...ugh...no thanks. No interest in the film or a cheap overlay based on it. Especially not in a park where it has no business being.

I wonder...what if Maelstrom wasn't available for the overlay? Where would they shoehorn Frozen in then?

I can already hear you belting out 'Let it Go' while wearing your $40 Olaf hat.

Blizzard Beach?

Answer.

Question: What is Disney planning on giving Poly guests free admission to (one day, apparently) starting late July when they close and destroy the pool.

BTW, anyone else notice/weirded out that Disney put out artwork showing children drinking an apparently alcoholic beverage while sitting at the bar at the new Trader Sam's location?

lol, what kind of a response is that? This is a very subjective discussion. Just because you think Pirates is the best or I think Saving Mr. Banks is doesn't mean either definitively is. It's all based on how you view it.
Saving Mr. Banks is a gem. If a movie can cause me to tear, to me it's a pretty damn good movie in my book. The acting performances by both Hanks and Thompson were phenomenal and very convincing. And the story as a whole was truly inspiring.

While the first Pirates is just as awesome, I don't think it's fair to compare which of those films is superior to each other as they are two completely different movie genres. Saving Mr. Banks falls under comedy and drama, while Pirates is under action and adventure. So in my opinion, it's kind of pointless to argue which one is better than which due to the difference of genre.

I thought we established that the person in the red shirt was a woman.

The cruise was a blast. I've done a number of these longer cruises on board DCL and other cruise lines and felt the overall experience was one of the best. The overall entertainment and on board activities were great (with exception of Toy Story-the musical, which I remembered being better). We did 3 days at Disneyland after the cruise as well. We can compare opinions once you talk about your thoughts. :)

Disney does do a great job on the longer voyages. I still think my 2010 transatlantic was a better experience, but not by a large degree.

As to Toy Story, I had only seen it once and disliked it strongly. I wanted to see it again to see if my original review might have been harsh. It wasn't. It's just a bad concept that they try hard to pull off. It's the only bad show I have seen on DCL.

What days were you at DLR?

I've never tried the Norweigian pastries, just France. How good are they?

I wasn't part of whatever conversation that was held. I can only say that it looks like children at a bar and Disney should have put out art where you don't have to try and figure out what you are seeing.

The 'art' (and I use that term loosely) is lousy and reminds me of New Fantasyland and HKDL renderings, likely done by the same person?

Understandable. I didn't give the others a full response, either. I could and would write pages about my opinions on movies, but I'm not going to do that because not only do I not feel like it, but it would be going way off topic.

Pretty sure it was a young female adult with short hair.

Any DLR news/rumors at all? Specifically a Tomorrowland redo and 60th anniversary next year.

I know they have taken a lot of heat lately, but Miceage has largely been accurate and on top of things.

DL is getting an all-new original night parade, a new pyro show and plussed versions of all the classic dark rides for the 60th. There will also be lots of nostalgia and nods to history with some returning things (hopefully, Fantasia ice cream will be one of them!)

T-land will be getting a redo and, yes, Star Wars is coming ... but they are going to take their time. They have already thrown out plans for DLR and TPFKaTD-MGMS and started again.

And since we are talking about DL, one thing that they do soooooo much better out there is merchandise. Yet, they still suffer from the One Disney mentality. That can be seen in all the Poly and WDW Adventureland merchandise for sale that is being passed off as DLR. Or even a set of glasses where they have say WDW's BTMRR on one side and DL's RR on the other ... WDW's Space Mountain on one side and DL's Sub Voyage on the other.

It's weak. People do NOT visit Disney Parks. They visit DL OR the MK or DAK or EPCOT etc ... people don't want Disney BRANDed crap that can be sold all over.

Now, on a merchandise positive, what a great surprise to see loads of Frontierland merchandise that is themed to the era and, much, isn't Disney at all. What a shock to see Pendleton Mills shirts for sale in the same location they operated in from 1955-1984.

Also, Cars Land continues to see loads of themed merchandise that can only be bought there. Great to see.

Finally, thanks to the friend who took us shopping at Company D/Property Control. So great to see merchandise that is the exact same as currently in the parks at 50-75% off (couldn't believe all the Cars Land stuff, all that Marvel stuff, Tommy Bahama and, especially, Wonderground Gallery stuff!!!) That's what WDW used to offer before its PC largely became simply another version of the multiple outlet stores they operate in malls across Florida.
