It would be support of odd, though, mixing "human" animatronics based on real actors with CGI cartoon characters

I was meaning that they would basically gut the Great Movie Ride and turn it into more of a dark ride, represented by several of their films, not just Frozen. I don't think the human-like deal would work either.

Given the budget they had to work with, they could have at least moved some of the fake coral and cartoons out the way so you can see into the world's second largest aquarium for more than a couple of windows...and I dunno...maybe they still could have made the ride somewhat educational instead of a cheap ripoff of what the submarine ride has become at DL.
Well, that's the genius of how they were able to do this with the budget they had! But, yeah, I agree with the first part of what you said...

I really enjoyed TGMR as is when I rode it a few weeks ago. Leave it as is. No changes whatsoever. At some point in the future it would need to be updated with new movies that have become classics since it was built, but it's too early for that now...

If Frozen must go into Epcot, why won't they just build Arendelle/North Mountain behind the existing pavilion? Or let the current pavilion serve as the Arendelle-ish village at the base of the North Mountain, where a real Frozen E Ticket with plenty of queue space can be built?

Honest to God, it's an absolutely miracle the park gates even open every morning with the amount of stupid coursing through the joint.

And why isn't Iger pushing for Frozen to get the right treatment? It's the Lion King of his era, the animated film everyone will point to as being Disney's hallmark of animation during his tenure. And his ego is okay with an overlay of Maelstrom?

And Maelstrom absolutely cannot handle the crowds that will want to ride it, post-overlay. This isn't fanboi talk, it's common sense. Maelstrom is an acid trip of a ride that makes next to no sense, and while I'll miss it for that reason (and watching bewildered guests exit from it asking "" to everyone around them), it's not a classic that needs to be preserved at all costs.

The issue is that Frozen needs something better - talk about your chance to do a Potter swatter. The Frozen-Star Wars one-two punch would catapult Epcot/DHS and take some heat off the MK. Don't they know people are going to start sacrificing more Epcot/DHS/DAK days on their trips to go to Uni once Diagon opens? Do these people even have a business plan? Do they have any earthly clue what long term strategy looks like?

We already know the answer to that question.

I spend a lot of time in Norway and I wish the pavilion did more to showcase the culture and attitude of the Norwegians. It really is a stunning place that the people alone really make an impression on people. I wish they had a whole lodge for people to stay in where people could immerse themselves with Norweigans.

A couple of years ago my husband and I were walking out after the Norway film. Behind us stormed a middle-aged man with his rather embarrassed family trailing behind him as he blustered loudly, "I don't care about the PEOPLE! I just wanted to know about the COUNTRY!"

We laughed at the time.

But, somehow, that story just seems sadly relevant to the discussion of the poor Norway pavilion's fate...

I sure hope not. Talk about stupid. A Frozen ride with a height requirement would be stupider than the Maelstrom overlay. Can you imagine the screaming little girls throwing tantrums? They'd have to hand out ear plugs at the gates.

Almost as silly as a snow white ride with a height requirement....oh wait

I've not ridden it yet but have seen the Mine Train in videos and picture form. Seems like a decent ride with a nice indoor show scene (and again the new AA figures look pretty good compared to what we expected originally), but the ride is incredibly short and i'm actually a bit underwhelmed with the outside theming. The concept art showed some extra thematic elements (such as the dwarfs marching across a fallen tree), and they cut it down from a longer and more dynamic track layout that weaved in and out of the mine at multiple points. I was also disappointed to see what it looks like on the outside at night. I think it was a sorely missed opportunity to scatter colorful sparkling LED-lit gemstones around the outside to give it more of a beautiful presence at night (which again looked like was the plan early on going by the concept art). But even without that, the facade is woefully lacking in regards to the lighting. Splash Mountain, Big Thunder and even Everest are all lit with some nice colored spotlights after dark and are (IMO) just as fun to ride at night. The night lighting on the Mine Train though looks very lackluster and disappointing in comparison the the lighting of most other Disney attractions.

I've already condemned the Frozen overlay in other threads, it's a horrible idea regardless of how you feel about either Maelstrom or Frozen. And considering the scope of the project, it's not even going to correct the worst problem with the current ride- its ridiculously short length. I feel that Maelstrom is a solidly good ride that had potential for greatness, but criminally short. What little ride they did build is great but it could have been something truly awesome if made at least 2-3 times longer. The proposition of a done on the cheap overlay reusing the same track and show space isn't even going to correct that one glaring flaw, so the entire project is a complete fail as far as i'm concerned. And i actually do like the movie to an extent and think it's solid and good (though it is indeed absurdly overrated and most definitely doesn't touch most of the 90's movies, in fact I even like Atlantis better which was from the early 2000's). But this overlay is a slap in the face and kick in the groin to anyone who enjoyed either EPCOT in its original form or Frozen.

As for Avatar, If they cut the boat ride then i'll have officially lost pretty much all interest and will have joined the bandwagon who is against the project outright. I was actually more open minded than most others on this forum about the project. I did think it inappropriate for the park and would far rather have something else (like a South America land for one example), but I was at least willing to give it a chance given that they included a calmer boat ride in the roster (the park desperately needs calmer rides that are ride-able to people of any health, height or just don't care for thrills). But if it was cut then i'm throwing my hat in with the project is a failure crowd. The boat ride was the only thing I was interested in regarding the land, i've no interest in Soarin clones (let alone ones being passed off as headliner "E tickets"). I hope your "strong rumors" turn out wrong, spirit (no offense meant but i'm guessing you also hope to be wrong when consistently having nothing but bad news to report for WDW).

By the way- any comments about what they're doing to the Polynesian lobby now? Not for news and rumors I mean (we all know what's happening now), but just your thoughts and opinions.

That's my thing too: if you absolutely must put Frozen in Epcot, why not build a new ride as part of Norway (they can use the expansion pad between Mexico and Norway) and put in a proper and worthy ride + gift shop (Oaken's Trading Post) + M&G with all the space to accommodate the expected guests. Basically an Arendelle mini-land as part of the Norway pavilion. That way, they not only give Frozen the attention it deserves and in a way that make a big splash, but also preserved the rest of Norway as a traditional country in WS and keep Maelstrom for capacity reasons*.

Yes, it still has problems with messing up Epcot's theme and obviously this would cost more money, but the upside seems far better for me and would certainly be appreciated by ops who are going to have a mess dealing with the crowds that a Frozen ride will bring. It seems to me that retrofitting Norway to handle the crowds would be such an expense and hassle that doing it "right" and putting everything next door where it can be built without the problem of having to deal with keeping everything open in the meantime would be better.

* = once nice side effect of this plan would be that it could really help the tiering issue at Epcot. You can make the new Frozen ride and the Anna + Elsa M&G "tier 1" and shift Maelstrom and the Character Spot to "tier 2". Or you might even be able to get ride of tiers altogether.

They do some nice effects with colored lights and gemstones on the line and the ride itself. See my 3D movie in my trip report thread.

Yeah, I don't see it. All of the dwarfs in the movie seem to speak English (or don't speak at all) exclusively. It's just a joke about how we don't know of any Spanish speaking dwarfs.

Now if they said something like "Disney apparently found Migrant Worker Dwarf to do the Spanish instructions in the queue", that would be racist. Y'know, actually picking on an established negative stereotype.

Either way, it seems like something incredibly stupid to put on your company's Twitter feed…

I don't care, i'm talking about the outside and not the insides. What you see throughout a large portion of the ride and as you're walking past the ride. Those elements look very good (the prism projections on the ceiling in the queue are a particularly nice touch, though the gem sorting game video screen looks rather awful) but doing sparkling gems on the inside and in the queue was always expected (the ride would have been a fail had they not done it at least in the mine showscene). But there were indications from the original concept art that this would also be done to parts of the outside as well. That would have given it a particularly striking and lovely presence at night. They didn't though, and even the regular lighting is very lacking on the outside compared to what one expects of other Disney attractions.
