How can things not be dishwasher safe in today's world. I even buy deli meat at the local supermarket that comes in some handy little plastic storage containers. There cheap as hell and yet so no signs of having an issue being run through a dishwasher and used in a microwave. What exactly happens if they aren't microwave safe? Do they just melt or is there some other far more sinister result?

Depends. Some will melt. Others won't but will leach dangerous chemicals into your food. Remember the melamine poisoning scandal with baby formula in China a few years back, the one that hospitalized tens of thousands of babies and resulted in a number of deaths? Yeah, that's the very same material used to make loads of dishes that are not microwave safe.

They tricked me. I didn't realize it wasn't dishwasher safe until I got home.

Somehow I foresee a lot of ruined dishware after people get home. Isn't the natural assumption in 2014 that such things are obviously gong to be dishwasher safe, without even checking? Unless it is purely a decorative plate or something, I wouldn't likely suspect it had to be washed by hand.

Disney's Bob Iger to Choose Sucessor Soon
Iger-Mouse-small.jpg

The big boardroom story, according to my sources, is that Walt Disney Co Bob Iger has f I n a l l y made the decision to name an heir apparent. So it’s between Tom Staggs, the Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Jay Rasulo, the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Walt Disney Co. “People are canvassing and campaigning for this like an election campaign,” one insider tells me. Tom’s the pretty boy. Rasulo’s kinda troll-like. “Jay knows how to talk to Wall Street. But Disney loves their leaders fit and healthy.” It’s also part of that company’s lore that Michael Eisner plucked Bob Iger from obscurity because he looked good in a speedo.

What brought you out to KI if you do not mind me asking? We have had passes for years and have always enjoyed it. Sure the park has changed drastically form the version seen on the Brady Bunch to today (some for good, others not so) but it is still a great diversion. Did you like Banshee? For my money, the Beast is still the best coaster I have ever ridden, wood or not.
Got to give another shoutout for the Beast. Agree 100% with your assessment of it.

What percentage of Disney fanbois had/have no interest in Marvel whatsoever beyond the fact Iger the Acquirer went out and bought them? I just don't recall the fervor in the fan community on Marvel IP before the deal. So, what exactly happened?
I think there was a fandom that liked the Iron Man and Spiderman movies, beyond that I'd say there wasn't much crossover.

Merchandise at WDW is, actually, better than DLR since I see that has become a topic here. BUT that is only because you can buy kewl NON-Disney items at DAK and EPCOT's World Showcase.

If you are talking Disney BRANDED stuff from the parks and with Disney themes/attractions/IP, then DLR is much, much better.

And I am not simply talking about BVS or CL merchandise, the designs on everything from character tees to pins is generally more appealing (at least to me) on the west coast than it is here.

That might be why I will admit to buying to DCA vinylmation at my local mall of late. To be fair, they fit in with a theme I'll be trying out in the home office soon.

But WDW has some great African and Asian gift items at DAK and DAK Lodge and many of the World Showcase countries do have things worth buying, albeit far less than 10-15-20 years ago.
I have been very disappointed by Disneyland merchandise. I think the only items I've purchased out in California are the Fastpass pins and some stuff at Mickey's of Glendale. I have yet to find a t-shirt in park that I like.

It doesn't much matter to me as I eat at WDW locales sparingly now, unlike what I did 10-15 years ago. There are great options in the REAL WORLD, a few minutes away from WDW. Those are fine with me.

What's funny is that is completely common at DLR, as it's almost out of the norm to eat in the park. But, it is almost sacrilege at WDW to eat off property.

HA! It's funny you mention that. I've never understood why theme parks don't put vendors in queue lines.

We waited for about 30 minutes in the hot florida heat last week for Kilaminjaro Safaris. We would have killed for someplace to buy soft drinks or waters.

Walmart would make the wait times long on purpose and then have vendors at every 5 feet!!
Busch Gardens in Tampa does have a vendor in the line for Congo River Rapids. If you've ever seen the line stretch over the bridge you'd know exactly why.

I think there is something to this. Putting the movies aside, I think from a theme park standpoint it's more popular now that it has a shot of coming to Disney parks outside of FL. Of course WDW fanboys could have gone up the street and seen Marvel theme park attractions all along.

I'm not sure that the success of the movies is related to the Disney brand. Look at John Carter and Lone Ranger. The little castle in the beginning didn't really help.

Can't speak for others, but I read Marvel comics growing up and always felt they were under-represented in popular culture compared to the lamer DC universe. I specifically made it a point to go to IOA soon after it opened because I wanted to experience the Marvel land. So, I was thrilled to see Disney buy them and even more thrilled to enjoy how well they have handled the universe in the movies.

And I'm hopeful we'll see Star Wars have the same amazing treatment by Disney.

I can't quite comprehend why/how Disney gets people to buy mugs and dishware that you can't stick in a dishwasher or microwave. This isn't 1984. C'mon. Get with it.

***Stop reading here if you love the new Co-Op at TSFKaDD***

And seriously, fanbois, why are you getting all hot and bothered by the merchandise at TSFKaTM? Most of it isn't WDW specific. Most of it has been on sale for months in Anaheim because it was made as generic 'specialized' stuff that has both DLR and WDW art/logos/themes on it so they can sell it at both resorts. Except for some items that are badly out of place ... like Orange Bird in Anaheim.

I don't want a glass that has the DLRR on one side and BTMRR at WDW on the other. I don't want DISNEY PARKS merchandise. I want DL stuff ... and EPCOT stuff ... and DCA stuff etc.

In case you were curious, they have already given up on the co-op physical store. Almost everything on sale in the DTD shop (which was already being sold in DLR months ago) seems to be available online already. Who wants a couple of porcelain elephants that look like they were painted at Color me Mine? I can't even imagine the market for some of this stuff.

Agreed. But good Scandinavian design always ages well, that's not a concept exclusive to airport architecture or the 21st century. Much less aging Scandinavians like myself. ;)

That's why the 60 year old "Danish Modern" furniture pieces in my home still look fresh and fantastic in 21st century SoCal. LAX should have been on its third renovation by now, after it stopped being modern and useful about the same time stewardesses stopped wearing miniskirts and go-go boots. But it's finally getting a renovation to the tune of Billions of dollars and it will take years of construction and headache.

I wish them well. But it's still a gross airport. And what a miserably frustrating way to start or end a Disneyland vacation. Much less the embarrassment that LAX provides as a major port of entry to overseas visitors to our country. Eek!

They are just as uncomfortable 60 years later as when they were made.

Right....

Who needs education and experience? All a person really needs is an anonymous internet account to be an 'expert'.

How do you know the education level and experience of an anonymous internet poster? Persons from many and varied interests in The Walt Disney Company are drawn to these forums, and not all are just pixie-dusted fans of the mouse. While someone can play 'expert', others actually have applicable education or experience - and it is often obvious which members are just making stuff up as they go along and which speak with authority.
