Once again, why is there another doom and gloom session over TSPL? This does not preclude anything else coming to DHS, it's just the first/quickest addition along with the third track. We knew this weeks ago... Then Spirit told us again, and now we are on the third cycle.

The only thing MiceAge revealed was that a Toy Story version of Junkyard Jamboree is likely replacing the Parachute Drop... which is actually a very good thing since it's a way better flat ride...

Woody's Roundup I 'reckon.

Their should be consistent "doom and gloom" over TSPL when if we believe Spirit at the budget for DHS redo being at $1.2billion - you better make everything awesome not MK Part 2 "Attack of The Toddlers" it should be epic and lead new experiences for themed entertainment, BTW I do mean ride based.

Indeed, having experienced TSPL in Paris, the visuals and atmosphere are absolutely wonderful, especially at night, RC Racer is a lot fun (but needs a dual track for capacity), slinky dog is a perfectly passable flat ride, and the parachute drop is meh at best. MJJ, on the other hand, is an excellent flat ride, so it is a significant upgrade. Indeed, the only real problem with TSPL in Paris is that there is no headliner attraction. TSMM fixes that problem.

I dare to disagree with your statement that the visuals and atmosphere are wonderful. I would maybe call the cute. But to me they are just big plastic things that have as much appeal as the All Stars Resorts and Pop Century. Making everyday things very big is a lazy approach to theming.

However, I agree that adding MJJ into the mix is a huge upgrade to the offerings. And I also think it is exactly the type of ride that DHS very much needs. I was surprised how much I loved the ride in DCA. But then I already really liked its small cousin in Paris.

Except that we (or you) don't "recognize how detrimental they are". That implies that it is an observable fact that they are detrimental. Instead, we (you) believe/contend/conclude that they are detrimental "to the overall operation".

The people making the decisions don't believe that, or they wouldn't be making those decisions. And those people have far more information that I or you or @ParentsOf4. That doesn't mean the people making the pricing decisions are right, of course, but they have a better chance of being right than those without the information (you and I) do.

We are in a position to say, however, that we don't like the prices, as you and I have both done.

We may be devolving into pedantry here. But you're right--"detrimental" depends on what you're measuring. Clearly current strategies are not detrimental to, say, stock prices. So if stock prices are the metric used for evaluation, we can't apply the term detrimental. Stock prices are certainly observable facts.

At any rate, I clearly did not express my original point as well as I intended. That point was that the reactions to WDW resort pricing posted in this thread are not some toddler-level tantrum thrown when people can't afford a room at the Contemporary. Those reactions are not free of opinion, but it is my observation that opinions around here are more often than not based on a review of observable facts...not bitterness and jealousy.

I would agree with you whole heartily with your sentiment on the look. I also wouldn't use the words cute ... it would be cheap, tacky and lame would be the words of choice. And with the whole off/on and back off approach to Cars aspect followed by the other inclusion of Star Wars.

It strikes me more so that Disney has failed at being able to produce worthwhile theme park content outside of the Asian parks and the once in a lifetime fluke (i.e. Ratatouille), since Indy and counting.

The most interesting bit to me in the MC update is the bit on curbing DAS abuse

I called out this way to game the system from the very moment it was launched. Sounds like a pretty burdensome way to address it (as now everyone in the party must have their ticket scanned) but it shows Disney is pretty adamant about trying to break this cycle of abuse. I don't know if they'll be able to withstand all the legal challenges (there is virtually no protection for the business in the disability laws to be able to stand up to abuse).. but I at least am happy Disney has not turned a blind eye to this.
Good. I hope they also have a new procedure in development to curb rider switch abuse. Some attractions attempt to curb it by asking to see if the party actually has a child that's too short, but sometimes that isn't enough.

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion that WDW is the number 1 theme park (in the U.S.? in the world?). However, @ParentsOf4 can explain better than anyone else here that posters' reactions to current WDW hotel pricing strategy are in no way based on the company "not pricing things the way we want" but rather on recognition that the current strategy is unsustainable and is greatly hindering occupancy rates. Pricing is a science, but WDW is using that science to realize short-term gains over long-term company health. It's like starving yourself for a month to fit into an outfit for a party with no thought to the overall repercussions to your body.

I love how posters like the one you replied to accuse us of being 'angry' and 'haters' whenever we criticize the Mouse and it's minions. I guess in some people's view Disney can do no wrong.

TSPL consists of one B-ticket aimed at the kiddie crowd, one B-ticket generally appealing to every age group and a C-ticket pegged at teens/young adults/thrill seekers, with a "fun for all" D-ticket that will finally have decent capacity. It will also represent HALF the rides in a park that's going to be a war-zone of construction walls. It can be completed in a little over a year from now to prevent the park from completely exsanguinating in the interim.

The "MK Part 2" way would be to take multiple years to open a miniland with an increased capacity spinner...

This seems to actually suggest someone out there has a strategy to make the park survive through its proposed 1.2 billion dollar expansion. Someone has actually learned what works (Junkyard Jamboree) and what doesn't (Parachute Drop). A park formed solely of E-tickets is not good park design. TSPL may not get everyone hot and bothered, but it's desperately needed and an honest to goodness - good thing.

Oooo, exsanguinating. Nice! :)

Not super excited about TSPL--it certainly won't draw me to the park. But you lay out some very valid points.

Is the D ticket you are taking about is TSMM? I assume yes. Of the other 3:
  1. the rumor now seems to be that the parachute drop is being replaced with a Mater from Carsland type ride re-themed to Toy Story. That would be a nice addition.
  2. The Slinky Dog ride seems to be similar to a ground level spinner. Kinda like the music express type ride that exists at a lot of amusement parks. Not a bad addition.
  3. The third ride, RC racer seems very Impractical. There will be big lines and not a lot of bang for their buck. I would like to see that ride skipped and replaced with something else with higher capacity even if it's just a classic spinner.
I was really hoping for a basic dark ride in the Pixar area themed to either Cars (the rumored RSR lite) or Monsters. The Playland rides are needed to increase capacity, but it's a big area and it seems there is plenty of room for more. Has anyone done or seen a picture of the area that TSPL covers overplayed on the BLT area? We had one for the entire Carsland and it fit. I can't imagine TSPL is that big.

Election Night just isn't the same without Dan Rather spouting his witticisms.

Not looking to open Pandora's box, but I haven't followed this Florida governor's race closely. Out of all the possible candidates to run against Scott, why did the Dems nominate Charlie Crist?

Worth also mentioning @photoflight posted an aerial update in his Avatar thread. I feel like most people don't venture into the Avatar section very frequently these days. Definitely worth a look if you love staring at construction sites. Thanks @photoflight :D

Why bother looking at a construction site for something that won't open for another three years? Might as well watch paint dry or watch grass grow or discuss the thematic principled integrity of EPCOT Center.
