The Spirited 11th Hour ...

Technically, It didnt beat avatar nor Titanic. Despite higher prices and wider release.

Well, technically, The Force Awakens actually has made more in its first run than either Titanic or Avatar -- Titanic made $1.84B in its first run and Avatar made $2.004B. Both were re-released to get to their current totals. TFA is currently at about $2.062B and I wouldn't be surprised to see a re-release in the future (probably right before Ep VIII) which would get it past Titanic's overall total.

It's also worth noting that, while the higher prices/inflation is certainly a major factor, The Force Awakens was released in a time of a relatively strong dollar which has depressed overseas box offices numbers.

Edit: Not that any of that really matters. TFA isn't the most "successful" movie in history on basically any meaningful metric, but why would that matter? It certainly was a massive success and over $900M in profit from just the box office alone (not to mention the impending home media sales, TV rights, and ongoing merch sales) is pretty amazing.

And, besides the revenue, people actually y'know tended to like the movie. Which is kinda a good thing too.

I still dont get the numbers of the document very well.. boxofficemojo says 2,063 millions WORLDWIDE.. still lower than Avatar (2,788millions) as well.

How many rereleases Avatar had?

That has to be wrong. I believe our beloved Exploder said this movie underperformed and was going to be a loser for the company

I so love when people put words in my mouth,

My point was unless TFA was the highest grossing movie of ALL TIME, TWDC would see it as a failure and so would Wall St to a degree because Iger promised 'The Street' that it would be. Avatar and Titanic are still the highest grossing movies TFA is #3 but in the insane world of TWDC beancounting that's not enough.

One re-release. Avatar made $2.004B in its first release and then an additional $783M during its second run.

TFA isn't passing Avatar, even with re-releasing, but my point was that it wasn't an apple to apple comparison since Titanic and Avatar both had re-releases among their box office totals and TFA has only had a single release. TFA has the highest box office total for a first run in history.

Ok then. Chalk it up as a failure. Reminds me of "A Year Without a Santa Claus". I can see Iger calling the Star Wars Elves telling them to pack away the sleigh and slaughter the reindeer for venison steaks, there will be no more Star Wars movies due to the absolute failure on this one. To bad really, I would have liked to see where this story took us. Oh well. . .

I guess I could go back and try and find your original post where you thought TFA would underperform and you were not going to see it since you did not want to contribute to it's inflated numbers. But then, if we had to go back and pull the proof from your original posts, I would have to hire help because there are only so many hours in the day. . .

Still waiting on your SAMBO retraction. . .

So back to Shanghai... @FerretAfros posted on LaughingPlace that leemac (I know, not the Spirit's favorite person) mentioned on Facebook that Shanghai is $2-3 Billion over budget.

Comments? Confirmation?

Would not surprise me in the least especially given Spirit's note that WDI has imported western construction crews to FIX what the Chinese crews did not do correctly and in some cases rebuild from scratch and in the meantime continues to pay the Chinese crews to do nothing at all.

That's not gonna go over well with the CCP or the budget.

Wow, you sure love to put words into other's mouth right?
I never said it was a "failure".

No, no, no. Unfortunately, you were a drive by casualty of some rather petty gang warfare on the TFA turf. Your post was what I replied to but it is our cataclysmic friend to who TFA was deemed a failure. Paraphrasing, possibly, but still, in the grand scheme of things, the Walrus was Paul.
