You're leaving out a key piece of information. A white collar job back then started at $7,000/yr. :)
I wasn't doing it for comparison to today, just for the shock value. What's the starting wage now? 30K, 40K..whatever it still isn't the same. $10,000. for A flight to Europe (even round trip) is a lot higher percentage increase then what wages have jumped. Yes, I know, First Class etc., but seeing as how tourist section gets to the airport at exactly the same time as First Class, it still seems a little out of proportion, don't you think? Also remember that even though this was a group rate (there were 30 of us) when you factor in everything other then airfare, it isn't even close to reasonable.

Let's use the current starting pay to be $40,000. Back then $7000. That's almost 6 times more. $530.00 X 6 equals $3180.00. Do you know anyplace where you can get that kind of trip, all inclusive for that amount today.

Then I joined the military and got FREE transportation from Vermont to Bien Hoa, S. Vietnam, Tokyo, back to Vermont and all it cost me was one year out of my life. Try getting that deal on Expedia.

Heck, using Green Machine Travel, I got three flights over and back. Toured Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, with
unlimited time flying Hueys, LOH's and 58's.
Mission performance required.
Hostile fire not included.

Way back in the dark ages (1967) I went on a tour via college of Europe. 14 days, with stops in Portugal, Spain, Italy, France and England. Included airfare, hotel, two meals per day, guided tours including admission. In Italy we went to both Venice and Rome. Total cost...$530.00. Transportation included bus from Vermont to Montreal, DC8 to Lisbon, smaller jet to Madrid, another jet to Venice, a DC3 to Rome, jet to Paris, jet to London, DC8 to New York, Jet prop to Montreal and bus back to Vermont. Every tour included shiny new Buses, Water Taxi's in Venice and so on. Simply amazing.

Then I joined the military and got FREE transportation from Vermont to Bien Hoa, S. Vietnam, Tokyo, back to Vermont and all it cost me was one year out of my life. Try getting that deal on Expedia.
Adjusted for inflation you paid $3,705.97.

You know I'm not looking for a one day turn around, but, I am tired of the I got some information but I can't tell you what it is yet, type of reporting. If you can't tell us don't say anything. It is stuff like that that gets everyones girdle in a bind as they try and guess what it might be. At that point it isn't news, it is what makes these threads go straight to hell. People make guesses and since there are so many of them, it is fairly likely that they are mostly incorrect. Someone else doesn't read the whole thing (shocking I know, but, are you sitting, not everyone anxiously awaits your next post), so they don't see where it originated and BAM, you have a full fledged rumor that has no chance of being true that leads to all sorts of useless discussion.

Yes, you have a reputation of having some pretty good inside information, no argument, but, lately it hasn't really been forth coming and, I'm sorry to say, some of it has already been discussed in other places. So, not new. Your musings, although amusing, don't help either. I listed the number of topics, some relevant, some not that you posted on just one session. How many directions do you think those are going to go in?

Truly it is not the fact that you tend to throw out a lot of different topics that bothers me, it's that you "warn" people not to go off topic, when you, many times, are the cause of that happening. Let a thread run it's direction or provide solid information to discuss, but don't play lord and leader and attempt to intimidate everyone to follow YOUR rules even when you aren't participating. It may impress some, but, not everyone!

If you don't like the way 74 puts out info, you don't have to read what he writes. Just saying...

I can also point out when I see a problem or an ego out of control. Free country. It's not like I'm punching him in the nose. He's a big boy and capable of defending himself.

In principle you are correct. But he prefers personal attacks over a substantive discussions when his ideas are challenged. Although he has improved and has matured. But too often he reverts to the ways of that Cheeze-Its cheese wheel.

Although perhaps he is missing because he has chosen to drink a 5th instead of taking it. :hungover:

Adjusted for inflation that would be $20.19 today.

That would be $2.88 today.
Remember, the 3.50 got you in the park, that's all. You could watch parades and fireworks, do nothing more. So, add in the inflation for a book of tickets. Not sure how many E's, D, C'd etc...were in each book or how much a book cost.

Good point. For example $6 on tickets in 1972 would have gotten you an A, a B, two Cs, 2 Ds and 4 Es. $6 then would be $33 today.

But parking really is 5 times as expensive now, adjusting for inflation.

There were some advantages to that system; Sometimes all a person may want to do is enter the park and look around (perhaps especially at the holidays) or enjoy the entertainment or whatever. At a price point of $20-$30 (or even somewhat more) that's practical, but not at current all-inclusive prices. Of course, there were also a few complimentary attractions back then (If You had Wings).

In theory, individual ride tickets could also give Disney an added incentive to build more attractions and keep existing rides/parks open longer. I'm not necessarily advocating a return to ticket books, but perhaps there should be more than one type of park admission.

Wow, now Cheap Trick becomes the 4th band to pull out of Bands, Brew and BBQ. What a PR nightmare this is for SeaWorld. The thing that irks me is that the only people these bands are really hurting is there own fans. So what are you gonna come play the House of Blues or the Hard Rock and charge people $50-100 to see you and not come close to selling out or offer Groupon's to fill the place up. I would love to know in these online petitions how many people from the Central Florida area signed them. And don't get me started on the hypocrisy of the fact that many of these groups have played SW or Busch before and had no problem taking the money then. Who new that the way Blackfish would really hurt SeaWorld would be artists cancelling concerts which really helps the animals. What a bunch of hypocrites.

When the people have been here as long as they have, they know. I do sometimes feel bad for some of the new people who get killed around here. We assume they are all people with an agenda, but we were all new at some point.

His agenda could be free drink refills for all as long as you are dressed appropriately;).

Actually WDW might need a dictator to come in and clean stuff up. We could do a lot worse than 74, but I would feel sorry for the lifestylers if he took power;).

I wouldn't mind a 74 coup at this point. I agree with him more than disagree. It is his tactics that I find counter productive. But maybe he knows what he is doing. Should I give him the benefit of the doubt?
