What is it about the Fantasia Hat that's supposed to remind me of the Studios again?

That's just it... Fantasia! Fantasia is an extreme innovative concept of Walt's. The only other big choice would be Snow White, but a Giant Apple already represents New York City, so the Hat was the next best thing. ;)

Well let me ask you a question in return. What studio released Fantasia? :D

Umm...first of all...what color is "Clueless?"

Ok, 2 things I like about that "Hat"

1. Like Spidey said...it's a "landmark" in movie making.
2. Movie making is truly magic...why not have a Disney styled "magic hat?" Let's see what kind of magic in movies we can make!!! (was that a stretch?)

(plus it's a good way to hide the Chinese Theatre when it comes time to do work on the facade)

Sorcerer Mickey is probably the form (other than his usual red shorts) that people love most...I mean, that is why he does the finale at Fantasmic! He is, indeed, my favorite Mickey, and with the amount of merchandise they sell of Sorcerer Mickey...he's very popular, one of the reasons people tend to love this hat.

Hmmm.....

I'm thinking that it would be that same studio that's put out a whole bunch of movies - not just Fantasia.

Sorry ya'll - it just really bothers me that the new icon for the Studios is just a big ol' hat that houses a pin shop !

Is that worse than a big ol' tower that houses...water? At least you can tough the hat...(without being a Cast Member, paying money, or getting caught by security).

Okay, that makes a bit more sense :)

You can't touch SE either though - and must one be able to actually touch an icon to make it more real?

*Diva is reminded of a Star Trek movie at this point...*

Totally agree diva. If they keep this up maybe they are going to gut SSE and make it a pin shop too.

The hat may belong but not where it is e.g. blocking the view of Mann's Chinese Theatre , anymore than it would belong if it were blocking the view of the ToT.

As to MGM belonging to the past or present I think you only need to look around to see it belongs to the past (30's and 40's, the Golden Age of Hollywood).

RnRRC may belong in the present (there were also coasters in the past) and ST may belong in the future but the majority of MGM was and still is from the 30's and 40's such as:
The ToT,GMR, IJESS, Muppet's (old style movie posters), Hollywood and Sunset Blvd shops, the cars used in the parade, the Hollywood Brown Derby, 50's Prime Time Cafe, Sci Fi diner,Hollywood and Vine, Sunset Ranch Market (check out the WWII posters)

What should the symbol be. What it has always been. The Earfel Tower. Water towers were and most still are symbols of movie studios and itsn't that what Disney MGM park is supposed to represent.

As to difficulity seeing the Water Tower from the park enterence, I find I have difficulity seeing any park symbol from the entrence now. What with those wonderful security tents and Leave your Money ooops Leave a Legacy etc. Also since you see the RR station first at MK one could argue that that is the symbol of MK rather than the Castle which you don't see until you are in the middle of Main St.

Hidden mickey

I think they missed out on the biggest opportunity ever... everyone knows that the Hollywood Blvd Courtyard is the biggest hidden mickey every. That shouldn't be a hat there... it should be a giant mickey nose, pointing out to the whole world that whoever laid out this park was truely a Disney fan.

As for the pin shop... it's nothing new... just a little cheaper. Has anyone actually been inside any of the castles. They all have CRYSTAL shops in them. Now who wants to buy a REAL pin.

Not too fond of the hat. I guess it's because I really love the 1930s/ 1940s feel that MGM has and the Hat just doesn't seem to match it. It's like they just stuick a big blue plastic hat in the middle of Hollywood. I admit it doesn't look too bad at night, but seems frightfully out of place. But life goes on...

Yeah I know what you mean. They also need to get rid of that big brown hat as well...what's it called? Oh yeah...The Brown Derby. What were they thinking when they put that eyesore in there? What does it have to do with the era in question?

Fantasia was released in 1940. I have no problem with an icon representing a Disney film (one that was released smack dab in the middle of the era the park represents, mind you) sitting there.

In case nobody caught the sarcasm, the Fantasia Mickey hat has as much a place in the park as anything else. :animwink:

Well, with that sort of logic, let's build a giant coonskin cap in Frontierland. It represents a great hero of that era and fits the fantasy theme of Magic Kingdom. I mean really... it sounds rediculous but isn't it just the same this as the MGM Hat? It seems to me you'll use just about any excuse to make the hat fit there... even if it makes no sense at all to the time period and theme Hollywood Boulevard is portraying.

As someone mentioned earlier, there is an ultra-modern coaster ride in the same park. Obviously it isn't going to be consistent either way. Now as far as that giant coonskin cap in Frontierland, NOW YOU'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!

Just kidding.
