While I agree that new things will be coming to AK, your timing is way off, jt. They would have to break ground NOW if they wanted to be open for the 40th. And FotLK isn't planned to be closed anytime soon as far as I know.

I would be suprised if it ever closed. Become a parade again while awaiting a new theater however........

And I think they could build a 20K attraction (phase 1) by October 1st 2011 if they wanted to. That is over two years from now.

If they want to do this right, and I pray they do, they need to build them together, meaning the volcano with the lagoon. I don't see this being a two phase project, not have i heard it mentioned as one.

Maybe it won't be a volcano. And I am certain it would never be a TDS style volcano/lagoon. I'd be shocked if they did that.

I would be too. It'd be too lavish/expensive for WDW.

But a man can dream.

I think it would look more like this which would be easier to scale and much easier to build and at a reasonable cost. Basically it would appear to be a peak at the other side of the island. But obviously I am in "armchair imagineering" mode and have not heard any rumors to this effect.

Yep, they have closed everything in CMM (except LK) for no reason whatsever .

They closed the skyway and last time I checked there was no replacement.

Ditto for River Country, Wonders of Life, Discovery Island, 20k Under the sea, Peoplemover at Disneyland, etc. etc.

The America Sings building and Submarine Lagoon sat empty for ten years without anything happening.

Disney has been closing things without replacement for years.

And they have no plans for the future of that land or the expansion pad . And they will probably never add another attraction to Animal Kingdom . Ever :rolleyes::rolleyes:.

there are always "plans". Don't put words in my mouth.

Just out of curiosity how are you going to react when Disney doesn't add anything for the 40th? (Chances are they won't even celebrate it in any substantial way).

Which is then followed by tons of griping because you can see it from one angle at the Parking Lot and yelling that they did "on the cheap"...

There is that. I really like how they fixed that problem with E:E. There was no word on this forum about it and I did a double take the first time I saw it. They did that project with no fanfare or publicity and it still amazes me it happened at all. Certainly not a business as usual change.

Anyway I could see them building a distant volcanic peak that could even be located backstage and quite far from the land it is themed to. It would save a lot of money. I borrowed the idea from the Passports to Dreams Old and New blog which makes a similar suggestion for Fantasyland. If you haven't read that blog, I recommend it highly!

The Rock has been praised in almost all his roles even if the movies he's been in haven't been. He's got the acting chops, just poor script choosing abilities.

He also seems to be, at least so far, someone who is not self destructing, which Disney must love.

I really don't follow the "show business" gossip, but he seems to be a hard working person. Not out partying, getting into trouble, shooting himself in the leg, or waking up in a gutter.

Of course I could be wrong and its just an excellent PR job, but so far he seems to be someone who is not going to "embarras" Disney.

thanks!

I guess they just can't argue with logic :animwink:

I didn't respond because your points were too apples/oranges. When was the last time an entire "land" was shut down in a Disney theme park with no replacements at all?

*thinking*:lookaroun

Nothing comes to mind. Perhaps you can help. And please don't say RC as it is neither in a theme park and it had a relacement (to put it mildly) elsewhere on property.

You make it sound if Camp MM is the equivalent of shutting down Fantasyland or something. Talk about apples and oranges.

Disney has shut down ENTIRE "parks" (river country, discovery island) that little area that CMM sits on is nothing for them. They could be doing it because of declining popularity and to cut costs for all we know.

Also, it was just the pochantas show that closed. Not the "entire" land.

So you can't think of a "land" that has been shut down without a replacement either I guess?

By the way, it could be said that RC was "replaced" by a combination of TL and BB. And of course DI became obsolete when it was "replaced" by a little something called Animal Kingdom. Both examples of Disney "trading up" at WDW.

Now also keep in mind that CMM and FotLK were quick fixes after Eisner axed BK and they have always been seen as "placeholders". The FotLK theater has a very temporary feeling to it for that reason.

Pochantas closed but also other minor and seasonal offerings have been eliminated.

Finally, keep in mind that CMM only takes up a small area of that expansion pad and combine that with the rumor that WDW is working on a Potter Swatter and I think it becomes likely that something is on the way to AK. JR is the best assest Imagineering has right now at WDW and who better to design a new land than him. Not to mention AK is the park that most needs a reason for extending park hours and since Mysterious Island doesn't involve live animals that might be bothered by staying open later, it all adds up to MI at AK, IMHO :D

While I agree with you closing down CMM still could be a fairly large asset. DAK is a small park (in terms of space for guests not counting the ride areas) and closing a whole land down could cause some major traffic flow issues. I don't really have a perfect grasp on this than some who actually work there but unless a new land is added to the park, closing another land down would definitely be far from smart.

Wow a 20,000 leagues remake.
That would be cool.

Maybe they could also make a ride from the movie too.
Do they do that kinda thing at Disney?
