The Rock to Star in 20K Under the Sea

According to BlueSkyDisney and others, Dwayne Johnson is set to star in the newest version of 20K. It is also looking like it will be filmed this year and has been fast tracked by Disney.

So, you ask, what does this have to do with WDW News and Rumors? Well, this may be further proof of the rumored MI addition to AK on the CMM plot actually happening as the making of the movie is part of the rumor. If you research you find MI is in the plot as is the Nautilus of course. And the fact it is being fast tracked seems to me to indicate the new land could be happening soon. As in, by the 40th anniversary! :D

It appears SW and Uni have awakened a sleeping giant.

I may sound like a complete moron here, but do you mind replacing the shortened words so I may know what you meant

20K = 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (or Captain Nemo or whatever else they call it). One of my favorite Disney films.

MI = Mysterious/Mystery Island

CMM = Camp Mickey Minnie

SW = Sea World

Uni = Universal

Actually, in the original novel, Nemo is middle eastern. Isralean, I think.

First of all, Captain Nemo is a rich rogue from India. He was constantly at odds with the british and muslims because of their treatment of his people and would launch what some may call terrorist attacks on there ships and facilities. This is how he earned his pirate reputation.

Second there is no such thing as "Isralean". I think you meant Isreali.

Third 20k was published in 1870 . There was no such thing as Isreal at the time.

Acting wise, yes. I just don't see Nemo as this hulking brute like Rock is.

And besides, with this in the hands of McG, I don't have high hopes to begin with.

I can't see The Rock as Nemo either, but I am not going to write him off - he continues to suprise me.

I always pictured Nemo as at least semi, if not totaly, insane. We need a good "insane" actor. A modern day Christopher Walken or Jack Nicholson.

Heck, even Brando in Apocalypse Now. I can see Nemo saying "You're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill."

I imagine Rocky's being thought for a Ned-Land-by-way-of-Queequeg character, not the mad, tormented genius Nemo.
Rock as a wise-cracking, harpoon-throwing, world-saving hero? Check.
Rock as a genius far beyond his time, tormented, conflicted madman? Not so much.

Wow! Hey I'm rather proud you were inspired to post in my thread. :king: You seem to be a person of few words. 2 posts in 6 years?

Now where would you see Chuck Norris fitting in the movie?

Chuck Norris could really only play the squid. Maybe the Nautilus?

Heck, put him as both, as long as we're not afraid of the screen exploding from awesome-overload with two Norrae (Norrises just doesn't seem right) on screen simultaneously.

Chuck Norris has never won an Academy Award for acting... because he's not acting.

Queequeg had his moments of genius as well. I allways found him to be one of those "duck" type characters. Calm on the surface, with a lot going on underneath.

If Chuck Norris played the squid, then the squid would have to win. It would just roundhouse kick the Nautilus into next week. Then Chuck would have his way with any women that happend to be on board. :D

Wow. Really?? This post is an awful stretch, even for you, jt. :lol:

When has Disney (or anyone else for that matter) timed an attraction open with the opening of a new film franchise??? Heck, we're JUST NOW getting TLM at DCA, with a WDW version maybe tagging along. Lasseter has said in the past that he thought attractions should time with movie opens, I'll give you that... But he doesn't write the checks to fund these projects.

Do you really believe the powers that be would okay investment of hundreds of millions of dollars for a new land (consisting of multiple attractions) based on a film property they have no history with in its current form? Especially these days, when nearly everything added to the parks is based around a tie-in?

I'm trying to think... What was the last movie that even has had an attraction built in response? Wouldn't it have to be the Pirates changes? Maybe the Nemo cabs and Nemo overlay at DL? How many years had passed before they opened?

Think, for a moment, about just how "out of the norm" what you're suggesting would be for the Disney company. Especially these days. Common sense alone should tell you that what you have here is a movie casting announcement. Nothing more.

Now... If we end up with another succesful franchise like Pirates because of it? Then we'll talk.

And trust me, I'd love to see it. Look at my screen name and avatar. :D But let's not put the cart before the horse.

Maybe chuck norris can show up in a future sequel and get his neck snaped by captain nemo (played by vin diesel). The whole theather would cheer.

First, I wasn't just refering to the 20K franchise. I am theorizing that Disney waited to gauge the scope of the additions to SW and Uni and are now about to counter those if the wdwinsider is right. Disney has a very good idea of what Potterland is all about.

Second, the whole 20K franchise rumor can be seen as a different kettle of squid (sorry:eek:). I have read accounts that Iger has expressed interests in building "franchises" that are much broader in scope than the way Pirates and Cars, for instance, have been deployed. Basically, in theory, 20K would have designed into it's "origin story" the idea of it being at least a trilogy. And instead of waiting to perhaps roll it into other Disney entities, they will instead go "all in" and develop the franchise throughout all aspects of the Disney empire to really capitilize on it. Is it a gamble? Absolutely. Would it pay off if it works? Beyond imagination.

Now people might wonder what would happen if the movie fails. The beauty of it is the plug can be pulled at anytime. And even if you ended up with an expensive MI land at AK, well that would still pay for itself eventually, even if the franchise failed. So really it's not a big gamble in my opinion. Now if the franchise succeeds along the lines of Potter or Pirates, well then MI turns into a marketing dream. Not to mention for stockholders and fanboy and fangirls everywhere.

So putting the cart before the horse might just be what they have in mind. It's beautiful. It reminds me of Walt's gamble in building Disneyland.

wdwinsider is just some guy rumor mongering on a forum. Hate to break it to you.

Your right that Iger has stated this in the past. However it is the dumbest move imaginable. Making a film with the idea that it will be a franchise you can milk forever is the totally wrong way to go about it. Just look at how sucessful Narnia was for them.

If wdwinsider gets banned three times, I might believe you.:animwink:

If you were as "in the know" as you let on you would know that Disney never owned the Narnia franchise.:hammer:

What Iger is talking about has never been tried so it can hardly be said it wouldn't work.:brick:

No guts, no glory!:D

And Iger is where he is and you are where you are. Enough said!:lol:
