The Park Formerly Known as Disney's Hollywood Studios? Yep ...

Something else I've been thinking about. I've noticed that quite a few opinions here are suggesting that DHS be updated with "more relevant" movies. Now, I 100% understand the sentiment and need for attractions that feature newer, more modern movies, BUT, as someone who appreciates the legacy and film making of older movies (silent film to maybe the early 80's?), I certainly hope SOME space would be afforded these iconic films. Nosferatu, Citizen Kane, different genres like noir, westerns, musicals, and the great stars like Gable, Bogart, and Grace Kelley. I know the great movie ride has many of these covered, but I agree that it needs work. I have no problem with that, but I wouldn't want the history and legends be forgotten. After all, that's where all that movie magic began. Besides, might be some kids out there that may not realize some movies DONT have CGI.

If they drop the "studios" name/theme, the Earful tower becomes completely useless as a park icon. Do they stick with the hat? Or will there be something in the expansion that could be used as a new icon?

I don't think so. The park uses symbols of Hollywood, and aside from pretending it's an actual movie lot, I think that's fine. The street actors, stunt show, various shops try to capture the "feel" of a mythical Hollywood, so I think the tower is great. But that's just me.

A studio is any location that can be used for production (rehearsal, recording, staging, storage, etc.) OR has any portion, no matter how limited, of an administrative staff that is, in some fashion, associated with any sort of production at any locale. No actual filming or similar activity on the grounds is required to call a location a studio.

Technically, one can rig a shed with lights, place a recording device and microphone in a basement, place an easel and palette in a den or stand a camera on a tripod in a garage and call it a studio. OR open a dance or karate class and call the storefront a studio.

Awesome. I live in a studio. And I still think they need to drop studios from the name.

I think maybe they do that to differentiate them from other things/places, as DAK and DHS are the official names, but without the D's, they are Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, which are so general that it can be many things. Perhaps my logic is too screwy but hopefully you get what I'm saying?:p

Yes you are completely right is the same things as calling your pizza place, Pizza Place, since is so generic the trademark office will not let you trademark it. Adding the Disney in front though bring a second meaning and a connection to what it is, because everyone nows who disney is and what they do

BLASPHOMY, Muppet Vision is great, a stunning show through and through. It has staying power and it'd be so sad to see it go. The first movie did very well and the second one broke even.

Disney doesn't make movies so they can break even - such a film would still fall under the category of "flop", because it failed to make a profit. (And I really really doubt it even broke even.). The point is, the WDW theater is a prime piece of park real estate that could be put to better purpose. The theater has had its day. Snow White's dark ride got replaced. The Country Bear Jamboree got replaced at Disneyland. What makes the Muppet theater more sacred?

Seems to us that if they drop "Studios", first thing that should go is BAH. Earful tower has, and again could be, park logo, regardless of new park name.
And the concerns about the stage losing a backdrop are silly because the Chinese Theater would be just as good a backdrop for those shows, possibly even better as it'd come off as more of a big Hollywood Party

Wouldn't it be nice to see that mountain and sign recreated in the park somewhere? Two possible places would be either behind the GMR or Sunset Blvd. behind Tower of Terror and RnRC.

I could see Disney working their magic by incorporating the "Hollywoodland" sign into the farthest ridge of the Cadillac Mountain Range. ;) It would require a gradual increase in follage and a design that directs our focus to that particular spot. A few strategically placed palm-trees would work. Of course all that hinges on us getting a Carsland clone.

I see what you're saying, but I think Disney built this park as a working studio and that idea still exists as long as "studios" is still attached to it. Disney may be looking to remove that idea from people's expectations by the renaming.
Yea, since there are about 10 of us that ever saw the original. The only ones that have that association are those that still call it MGM, because, heaven forbid that anyone should have to adapt to any change. The numbers of people that go to DHS that still think of it as a working studio is so small that it probably doesn't even register on any scale.
