The Official Hurricane Frances thread...

The storm has changed direction again and started heading north with the center just to the east of Tampa. As a result there is a really strong storm squall running in a path from south of Kissimmee right up to downtown Orlando. Right now I'm seeing the heaviest rain and wind that we've had here since the storm started. I'm about 8 miles east of Disney.

That squall is heading right along the line of the eye path from Charley.

WDW nonvital info

Not to move the focus from the *people* involved and affected by this storm, but I wanted to pass a long a couple updates for WDW from a friend of mine is a student castmember living in the apartment complex housing.

WDW remains closed today and will also remain closed through tomorrow (Monday) at the very least.

The river (Rivers of America?) around Tom Sawyer Island was drained by Disney before Frances hit (Friday) in order to accommodate runoff from the storm to avoid serious flooding in the park.

That's all. Still keeping those affected by the storm in my thoughts!

Excellent, I did not want my whole weekend to be wasted....after a long, stressfull week at work preparing for this, I need some leisure time!

Any idea to as why MGM will be closed?

This house in the Devon's Glen subdivision in Suntree isn't taking any chances. Contractors used a crane to stack concrete, plywood and stakes against the side windows, and then the family evacuated further inland.

One family spent four hours in line at The Home Depot to buy this plywood, and then spent another three hours nailing it up.

I'm not sure. This came from the cast portal and it didn't mention the reasons for the closures (though AK's reason is to return the animals and get them re-acclimated).
