I agree with chancellor, please keep in mind when looking at maps like this: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT06/refresh/AL0604W5+GIF/301453W5.gif to realize that the solid black line in the middle is not the exact path. Alot of times I also read the discussion from the forecasters from the main page: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Let's all watch this one closely because it's forecast to possibly get stronger and could get really close to Florida.

That's true. Today on the news they were talking about it just passing by Florida. The most we'll hopefully get is rain.

I think it will turn north and will hit along the border or Florida near the St. Pete /Gerogia area. But that is only my prediction. My prediction was right when Charley took his northern turn, but I knew he was not going to go to Tampa. The thing is to keep an eye on it and always be prepared. Alica in 1983 formed right off the gulf and hit us here in the near the galveston area pretty bad, she was a category three.

bad trend

While it's certainly still way too early to tell, I agree with Griz & Will that the latest information is not good. I, too, thought that perhaps the high would relent and let the storm move more due north (as similar storms have done in the past) but the latest models don't make me as optimistic about it. Since I'm right on the coast here in Fort Lauderdale, I'd like to see it stay well offshore, and heading due north as soon as possible.

My wife and I have planned and payed for our trip from Sept 8 -15, now we're both from Canada and have never experienced a hurricane, do we have anything to worry about like our trip being a total write-off?

The hurricane will be gone by then. You have nothing to worry about. :)

I still believe that it will curve right up the east coast....at least I hope it will....Orlando shouldn't have to go through this again.

The trip being a total-write off is unlikely and unprecedented in recent years. Although a Category 4 storm hitting the Orlando area dead on, can and would likely cause extreme damage. More likely, you could experience transportation difficulties, although you are not heading down to the 8th? It is likely that the impact would be during the upcoming weekend. Let's hope it does something unpredicted, which does happen fairly often with tropical systems.

Just something to think about, this storm is about 4 times larger than Hurricane Charley. If it were to hit the State of FL on the East Coast, at one point in time the Hurricane is large enough to cover the entire width of the state with Hurricane Force Winds.

That of course is if the storm keeps the same size it has now. And yes, I said Hurricane Force winds for the entire width of the state. Tropical Storm Force winds would spread out everywhere except the pan-handle. (If the storm keeps the same track it has now) and the intensity and width of the storm stays the same. Of course, keep in mind that once a large storm like this makes landfall, they tend to die off quickly, but when a storm this size hits, it could make it all the way across the state as a Category 3 Hurricane, not counting the fact it would be a Category 4 on the coast.

I know a lot of you are going to say that it's nothing to worry about because Hurricane Charley was in a very limited area. Let me tell you, that if this Hurricane hit where Charley hit, you'd have mass destruction all the way from Tampa to Ft. Myers on the West Coast, and it would cross over the state as well. This is a much larger storm. Keep both eyes open.

In reference to FamilyMans previous post....As of 11pm, sustained Hurricane force winds extended up to 60 miles from the center......

People have been selling "I survived Hurricane Charley" t-shirts on the side of the road for a few weeks now. Totally lame if you ask me.

Let's hope Frances stays away at least for this reason!!!!!! :D

Looks like this season is going to be a bad one. I just can't imagine having to go thru all of this again, so soon.

Stay safe everyone.

From someone who survived hurricane andrew. This is its clon i just hope its clone does not decide to strike us again. i also hope a second hurricane does not hit the same areas that hurricane charly hit(we got saved from that one here in Miami). Just in case im going to get water and all my supplies since my boyfriends brother works for the national hurricane center and he told us to be prepared thats all he can say since they dont even know were this thing will strike exactly. We will speak to him today and i promise that if anything changes i will try to inform everyone here. I think all we have left now is to hope for a tropical storm. ( anything is better than the hurricane)
