The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Take this with a grain of salt....

FreshBaked is reporting a rumor that a famous well known Imagineer was recently seen atop the Peoplemover tracks surveying TL. Now they don't mention who the Imagineer was but the rumor is that they are looking to completely redo TL here in the next couple years, maybe even dropping the TL theme completely with the possibility of new original attractions.

Assuming this is true for a second, and given the fact that MMRR just got announced instead of at D23, could this be the big announcement in store for DLR at D23?

Thoughts?

Seeing someone survey the tracks turned into "Tomorrowland overhaul and complete retheme coming soon"?

Yeesh.

Yeah I’m sure they’re completely thinking of dropping the Tomorrowland theme. Maybe it’ll be a Star Wars or Marvel land... heck, maybe they can even make it steampunk!
Maybe this needs its own thread, but forgetting the whole dropping the TL theme part for a second. Are you saying Disney isn't planning on redoing TL anytime soon?

Oof, I forget how pricy Lego gets. I'd pay over $300 for a detailed scale model.... Not sure I want a Lego version at that price.

This is probably my favorite Disneyland collectible I own. Bought it for about $150 on eBay a few years ago after they had stopped selling it at the parks...

Don't be obtuse. We all want a Tomorrowland overhaul, we just think the idea that seeing someone survey the people over track somehow equals them ditching the Tomorrowland theme altogether is kind of a stretch.

Not sure if you watched the video, but the very next thing said in the video after "guy spotted on PM tracks" was that "guy spotted on PM tracks recommended Tomorrowland be demo'd."

But this isn’t the same guy that told you that MMRR was going in the Backlot like a week ago is it? No offense, I enjoy your videos but I wouldn’t trust that source anymore. There were so many signs pointing to it going in Toontown that I was really surprised when I watched your vlog and saw that you believed that person.

I'm not being obtuse, I'm asking the serious question that I don't think anyone here wants to answer. Just because you don't believe it doesn't mean it isn't true.

The issue is how do you have a TL redo, a TL 4.0 if you will, and keep the Tomorrow theme without it quickly becoming yesterland? This I believe is the problem that WDI has been struggling with now for years and the reason nothing has happened.

The rumors that MiceAge reported (back when they actually did good reporting) was that WDI wanted to redo TL to last 30+ years. Do something to keep it from being yesterland in 5-10 years. Unfortunately tomorrow comes too quickly, even Walt himself realized this.

So unless you do something retro and go back to something like '67 TL, you kind of have to ditch the Tomorrow theme all together. Do something like Discovery Bay or some other theme.

Forget the FreshBaked rumor, what to do with TL? This is where a new thread is probably a good idea....

They ll never ditch the TL theme at DL. I mean... in name at least. Tomorrowland isn't even Tomorrowland right now. It’s Sci fi, Star Wars lite, Pixar Pier South.

I think the resolution is simpler than people make it out to be. Just go out so far into the future that it won’t be outdated soon. Which of course will make it a little Fantasy based but that’s ok. I mean has architecture changed that much in the last 30 years? Our buildings are still mostly large, tall rectangles and boxes. When You look at Space Mountain, do you see something that looks outdated? I don’t, because I’ve never seen anything like that in real life. So I think TL should be a mix of a realistic mix of an optimistic view of the future, fantasy and a dash of Sci Fi. Of course with plenty of kinetic energy and levels of activity.

TBH I think TL 67 would be awesome too. That’s what Disney does best. Romanticized versions of the past. But this would mean bringing back the people mover with a new build and skyway otherwise it ain’t TL 67

The problem is that you're only looking at architecture of the US, which by all standards is pretty bland.

The Europeans and UAE have been building futuristic architecture for decades now, and its made a come back in recent years. And yes Space Mountain looks outdated compared to some of it.

I mean just look at this in Abu Dhabi -

To me Space Mountain looks just as futuristic as whatever I’m looking at in that photo. The area around it could use some sprucing up and it could use some more greenery but it’s still solid. The only way it stops looking futuristic is if that type of architecture becomes common.

Thing like that is common outside the US that is my point. Overall US architecture is pretty bland and boring in comparison.
