Really? My first planned trip to WDW in almost 20 years and then Hurricane Milton chooses now? Really, Milton? Really?! *old lady yells at cloud*

In all seriousness, any inconvenience this may cause to my vacation plans is absolutely NOTHING in comparison to what the residents of Florida are about to experience. If needed, I can reschedule. Praying to the weather gods that Milton is not as bad as predicted.

#westcoastbestcoast

That's kind of you. I was in South Carolina for Hugo and it was awful.

But it looks like Milton will head south of WDW, and only be a Category 3 when it makes landfall. 21st century Florida is incredibly resilient now when it comes to hurricanes. I'd imagine, barring some unforeseen wobble or odd weather phenomenon, that WDW will close early on Wednesday, and reopen as normal on Friday looking to the untrained eye as if nothing had happened. I haven't checked the WDW threads, or the exact timing, but that's my take.

If you are stuck in a hotel room on Wednesday night or Thursday, usually the Florida tourist hotels take very good care of the guests. Plenty of time to order pizza and get your Family Scrabble Showdown time in!

Fingers crossed...

Because of the MCO closure, the airline is (understandably) asking us to change our flights. So, unless Milton blows the state off the map, we have a new, shorter, vacation plan. We will miss the Space Center day (boo!) and will have just one day at Universal. Disney was later in the week, so those plans are unchanged.

For those of you east coasters, please stay safe. Again, I'm sending good vibes that it doesn't hit as hard as predicted.

We were behind the VIP viewing area kind of near the Mandalay Bay. It was a surprisingly great little show with a great payoff.

The fireworks outdid anything I've seen recently, and the drones mixed in were simple, charming, and effective. The strobing/chasing flashbangs starting at ~5:40 revealing blasting machine were quite spectacular in person... built up great excitement for the moment you knew was coming.

The Tropicana implosion was a really cool show.

Now can we do it for DCA?

The show was covered heavily by all the local Las Vegas news stations, and it was great.

It really shows what you can do weaving drone tech into traditional fireworks. The revolving Oakland Las Vegas A's logo was particularly impressive. Heck, it was all impressive!

And this was all for a free one-off show for locals. Imagine what Disney could do if they really wanted to wow a Disneyland paying audience?

Also, aren't local TV anchors great?!? You just can't make up the inane banter that local TV hosts can roll with. I love this perky, insightful duo on the video above! "It says... Las, Vegas, Athletics. With dice next to it. This is the future." So... perfect. 🤣

The funniest part about that is that those weren't even dice. It's the seams of a baseball.

Never mind...they were talking about the logo on the building, not the drone logo. Carry on.

I think the use of drones on a mass scale needs to happen first at World of Color. Perhaps even be a World of Color exclusive.

You could fly an entire fleet of drones over the lagoon and not worry about closing off walkways and creating safety zones beneath them. Technical problems with a drone? Who cares, let it crash into the lagoon! If you fly a bunch of drones over Disneyland for the fireworks, they'd likely shut down half the rides and walkways in the park to do it. That wouldn't be worth it.

Drones should show up en masse at World of Color for a new 70th show there. Really make it a WOW! moment.

Really not a fan of spooky, minor-key, repetitive songs (This is Halloween; Grim Grinning Ghosts) blaring in the esplanade or World of Disney. Sets a weird tone.

Finally got to ride Monsters After Dark, sometimes abbreviated as "MAD."

MAD? More like MID.

Just kidding. Kind of. It's fine. I thought maybe the drop profile would be kicked up a notch to match the scary theming and metal soundtrack, but if anything it felt less intense than the regular version. Very impressed, though, that they actually re-programmed Rocket for this; IDK why but I assumed MAD's preshow would just be a video.

When I got to do try out MAD, I only got Rocket on video. So good to know that they actually did reprogram him for this!

But yeah, it's fine. Not an elite tier overlay by any stretch, nor actively bad, just sort of there. I remember people claiming that MAD was better than the regular ride when it was brand new, and based on my own experiences with the overlay (limited though they are) I don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion, personally. Nice to do something different, I suppose, and at least it's a limited run that doesn't fully replace the main attraction.

Doesn't it just reuse one of the MB drop profiles?

Not sure. Maybe! I’ve only ever gotten Parliament, Pat Benatar, & Jackson 5, and MAD’s drop profile didn’t seem like any of those.

I thought it uses the most aggressive drop profiles from M:B which I believe is I Want You Back.

I don’t believe this is the case. I Want You Back is indeed the most thrilling (and best) of the 3 drop profiles I’ve experienced, but MAD felt closer to Parliament. For some reason I assumed it’d be similar to I Want You Back as well, so I was a bit let down.
