I mean I WANT both. The applications to auditions fees (which are JUST AS ARCHAIC, WTH) are just like college application fees (which are also archaic and awful), but in this case, you are playing to apply to work. Not every opera company charges for them these days, but some still do, but it's the principle to me of going through the last two years and clinging to stuff that wasn't working even though your industry is struggling to recover! It makes no sense! I took the last two years off because of Covid (obviously) and now I finally feel good about rejoining that world. The tattoo and the fees are about the same for the next season, and I want both, but I have to be an *adult*. Mayyy beee if I book a lucrative contract, the tattoo could be my reward.Exactly. My boss has tats going up and down both of her arms. She just graduated with her PhD and has an upper level position at Santa Monica College.
That archaic type of thinking is so tired. @Dear Prudence Get the tattoos.
Do you think this is a British run site?
It is sad to see her go. She did a great job as Queen. Long live the King.
She was only even queen because of a series of flukes, which is so wild to me! I didn't even know that until a few years ago.Weird thing I thought of today: No one will say "God save the QUEEN" again in our lifetimes. A long line of Kings to follow...
Not British, but it does feel strange to know she's gone. She was always there, you know?
You mean Prince Andrew or Prince Harry? Prince Louis is only four years old.She was only even queen because of a series of flukes, which is so wild to me! I didn't even know that until a few years ago.
To be honest, Charles and William should just hang it up now and let Louis run the show (even though he is also not a direct heir, they should just let him, he and Charlotte seem to have ish under control).
Sounds great! For those who want Disneyland standards to stay in the 1950s, let’s see you in those dresses, kitten heels, 3-piece suits, and comb-overs.
I am itching and sweating just thinking about that. For those who want Disneyland standards to stay in the 1950s, let’s see you in those dresses, kitten heels, 3-piece suits, and comb-overs.
I agree that should a (non-working) monarchy exist, the way GB has been doing it is the way it should be. I will tune in for the funeral and King Charles III’s coronation. Personally, it’s going to be hard for me not to watch both. We don’t have anything very similar in the US, so it should be interesting to watch.Agreed on the monarchy thing. We fought a long, bloody war and gained our independence from that outdated and inherently unfair system. That said, I think the UK in the last 120 years has changed its monarchy into a mostly ceremonial system that is most effective, and something only the Brits could do well. And think of the gifts to the world the British gave us all, with their steady drive over the last 400 years to establish democratic ideals, fair representation and rule of law, their sacrifice of British lives and resources of the British Royal Navy to end the trans-Atlantic slave trade in the 1800's, etc., etc.
If there is a place for monarchy in the 21st century, Great Britain and Queen Elizabeth perfected it into its most appropriate and effective format.
I'm somehow looking forward to the pomp and majesty of Queen Elizabeth's funeral and ceremonies in the days ahead. I think it's going to be fascinating to watch, and quite reflective for many of us.
Yes, exactly. It’s amazing that she, a woman, reigned for so long and is considered one of the greatest monarchs. I wouldn’t necessarily label myself a feminist, but in a world where, in various ways, men are still thought of as superior, that Queen Elizabeth II sat on the throne for that long and with that much respect is pretty cool.Weird thing I thought of today: No one will say "God save the QUEEN" again in our lifetimes. A long line of Kings to follow...

Right??? I started watching The Crown when I was sick with COVID in late 2020 (only a few episodes), and that’s when I learned that she only became queen because her uncle abdicated the throne. I’ve been watching videos on European monarchies, particularly English ones, and I discovered that Elizabeth and Philip were cousins. I found this out last year, but I didn’t know exactly how they were related. Turns out Queen Victoria was both Elizabeth’s and Philip’s great-great grandmother. Apparently, William and Kate are distantly related, too.She was only even queen because of a series of flukes, which is so wild to me! I didn't even know that until a few years ago.

While weird by modern, Western standards, the British monarchy has got nothing on the ancient Egyptians. Many pharaohs married their siblings (or children!).Right??? If you don't think sexism still exists,
Very true! I just watched a video on Cleopatra and how inbred she was a few days ago lol. Same with King Tut.While weird by modern, Western standards, the British monarchy has got nothing on the ancient Egyptians. Many pharaohs married their siblings (or children!).
Gotta stay in power somehow, I guess.

Wow. Okay.
