I don’t think every attraction need a lot of intensity of plot. I thought about simple giant crystals formation cave walkthrough for DCA.
I don't necessarily disagree. "it's a small world" is a simple ride with no plot or conflict, but it's lovely and perfect. If Na'vi River Journey was a series of interesting vignettes and beautiful vistas, I wouldn't even complain, but it's just one location with one thing of interest for the entire ride. Again, I think my bayou example is the perfect comparison. There's fireflies, an alligator, some plants, and then animatronic with some music. A magnificent scene, but it's just one scene and it's incomplete without Pirates of the Caribbean to follow. Na'vi River Journey just feels incomplete, like it's the beginning of a ride that just abruptly ends.

That’s definitely what it looks like to me which I predicted before it even opened based on the facts we had. But maybe it’s different in person? It comes across like they ran out of money or something.

If it had a perpetual 5 minute wait like Pooh than I think the experience would be worth the wait and it could viewed as this charming little ride that you go on before or after FOP. But from what I understand this ride always has like an hour wait. It’s gotta be a huge let down for many people that ride. With that said the park doesn’t have a lot of dark rides.

Are you still planning on making the trip to WDW? Gonna be interesting to hear your thoughts when you're back.

Im 50/50 on it now. If Royal Caribbean or Disney at any point in the next few months announce that they re removing the vaccination requirement I’ll cancel it for a cruise in a heartbeat. Just easier with the kids and actually sounds relaxing. Especially if I can skip the flights and take a cruise to Mexico from Long Beach/ San Pedro. If I do go on a Caribbean cruise then I may try to pair it with a shortened WDW trip.

Disney execs: We're just gonna make all these park IP movies and they'll be such big hits that people will be begging us to install movie IP all over the rides and therefore they'll be even better.
Me, a Disney Theme Park Intellectual: I hope this movie bombs so hard...

Yeah, I kinda want every Disney move to bomb now. At least under the current regime.

100%. People I feel forget that themeparks are about themes, not emulation. Walt certainly wasn't going for "immersion", but for idealized eras and themes from history and fiction.

Modern Disney would make Fronteirland without plumbing to show their commitment to immersion.
Walt absolutely was going for immersion. He insisted on all sorts of authentic elements. This idea here that immersion is something new and different is just bonkers nonsense. Disneyland has always been about immersion into different story environments, that’s what makes it a theme park.

I would actually love a western-themed family adventure to do well, especially if the movie actually includes a long, fun action sequence aboard a little runaway mine train, tooting its adorable iconic whistle throughout.

But I’m expecting garbage, and will be delighted if it’s good. Maybe the Rescue Rangers lightning can strike twice.

Even if the movie bombs, Disney will probably retheme Big Thunder to Woody and Stinky Pete anyway.

OK, I’ll no longer argue in favor of real grass. Droughts are serious.

BUT, if Disney REALLY wants to show they care, they need to shut down World of Color. Pronto.

I 100% disagree. Walt was about authenticity, hospitality, and showmanship. He would never inconvenience guests by for example having Tommorowland employees ignore guest questions because they are from the future (a very real thing that happened with Galaxy's Edge).

Walt had Peter Pan, Mr Toad, and Alice in Wonderland from Britian inside big circus tents with Snow White from Germany and Dumbo from America nearby along with a pirate ship. He wasn't going for immersion but fun theming.
