But we already live in a simulation.I think we should save the environment by replacing the environment with an artificial environment.
Fake turf would make the area more hotter. Plastic retains heat. And that I’m against fake grass. Native grass should be preferred.I will never support grass, it's dumb. Green lawns are dumb in summer / drought season. Dumb dumb dumb.
Replace it all with fake grass, prioritize flowers / pollinators / trees.
Thank yooouuuuuu ️Also that artwork was great and it's so fun that you left it for people to discover.
The act of traveling to Disneyland is bad for the environment. Using energy to post on forums is bad for the environment. In fact, nearly all forms of entertainment are bad for the environment! Stop, everybody!!!! Stop!!!!
I agree that grass is pretty. It smells good and is fun to lie on while drinking root beer. Astroturf is for the Brady Bunch’s back yard.
The Disneyland forum side didn't have its own Trip Report thread, so I wasn't sure what the protocol was, but I also LOVE trip reports!!!I think they're so fun! I am nosy and I love seeing everyone enjoy themselves. Thanks for sharing! I also love Splash and think it's great you rode all your favorites multiple times. I miss trip reports! Glad the trip went well and happy birthday!
Fake grass sighting in Town Square. This makes me sad. Fake grass makes me sad. I’d be ok with it in Toontown but in Town Square I don’t like it. I’d hate to start seeing this everywhere or in places like the Mickey planter in front of the train station. I will say that it’s some of the better fake grass I’ve seen. Hopefully this is a one off or used in very select places. Don’t like the precedent though.

I am all for doing one’s part in helping the environment in ways that matter, and I do every day: Number one by NOT driving myself to a theme park every other day (I’m not saying you do that, but others merrily motor themselves to DL every chance they get). Again, if you’re saying that Disney should never use a tiny bit of grass in a few planters, then the park should immediately shut down and drain Pirates, Jungle Cruise, the Sub Lagoon, The Rivers of America, The Matterhorn, Splash Mtn., Small World, Grizzly River and Paradise Bay (and, of course, World of Color). This type of thinking is partially why the earth is in the state it’s in now.
We’re talking about the use of water in California, where we’re experiencing a severe drought, though. Not drinking sodas, not using gas. Let’s stick to one environmental issue at a time, for the sake of the topic and how we got to this topic.I am all for doing one’s part in helping the environment in ways that matter, and I do every day: Number one by NOT driving myself to a theme park every other day (I’m not saying you do that, but others merrily motor themselves to DL every chance they get). And, for crying out loud, stop selling sodas at DL. No one needs them.
I love how someone can support a tiny patch of green grass and instantly be pigeonholed as thoughtless about the environment. I conserve water, I drive a small economy car, I cut my freaking plastic water rings apart so they won’t choke the Robin Williams penguin in Happy Feet.
And yet I like Disneyland planters with a tiny bit of real grass. Call me Thanos, I guess.
Closing note: I’m really not angry or upset; I’m just having fun with my little opinion. I certainly would not disagree that water conservation is important. You’re one of my favorite posters on this forum, and there’s no one I’d rather argue a point with.
And my one of my sisters recently landscaped her back yard with artificial turf. She did it primarily for the low maintenance and water savings, but It actually looks great.
I just think artificial turf on turn-of-the-century Main Street is yuck.
There are turf products that are vacuumed. Even when being cleaned with water, it can easily be with less water, less frequently. So, how is artificial grass cleaned in a theme park application? Is it vacuumed? When the ducks - um -fertilize it, does maintenance break out a Bissel Pet Pro?
I have artificial turf in my front yard. We could never really grow and maintain real grass there because of the soil and moles. It is great stuff. I just blow the dirt off of it and remove any weeds that start to grow. The only problem is it gets really hot to walk on barefoot. There are turf products that are vacuumed. You make your point very well, and I apologize for sounding like I don’t take California’s drought seriously. In reality, I do.We’re talking about the use of water in California, where we’re experiencing a severe drought, though. Not drinking sodas, not using gas. Let’s stick to one environmental issue at a time, for the sake of the topic and how we got to this topic.
I know you currently reside in Florida. I live in California, it’s my home. The drought issue is a real thing and we’re all affected by it. There are ads on tv about conserving water, billboards, and a general sense that we should be saving water where we can. California has banned the watering of “nonfunctional or purely decorative grass in commercial, industrial, or institutional properties with potable water.” This is likely why Disneyland has replaced that patch of real grass with fake grass. The drought is an unfortunate reality, but a reality, nonetheless. I’m at least happy to hear that water usage has dropped 11%, according to LADWP. The efforts are working. The wildfires are still wildfiring and the air is extremely dry. It’s affected both my allergies and my asthma.
I never said anything about you and your personal environmental habits, though I’m happy to hear that you’ve made adjustments where you can. I did say your way of thinking has partially led us to where we are now, which I firmly stand by. The collective arrogance and selfishness of human beings have undoubtedly contributed to our environmental issues. Throw in the whataboutism and we’ve really got things rolling.
I never alluded to the idea that Disneyland should never have real grass. Would I prefer to see real grass? Yes. But, given the grand scheme of things, to be perfectly frank, I don’t give two ***** about some grass in Mickey’s front yard that’s no longer real. We will survive. I’m assuming this is a temporary thing. We’ve had to let our own grass go. It’s a tiny sacrifice to make to help alleviate a very big problem.
I’ve said all I want to say regarding this topic. You’re also one of my favorites.
Disneyland is also a place that fakes materials all of the time.Yeah I’m not down with artificial grass in turn of the century Main Street either @Rich T . I’ve also cut down my water use a lot but I think that a place that’s supposed to be an escape can keep their little patches of grass. There’s billions of houses. There’s one Disneyland. We can just let Disneyland be Disneyland. Of course we know that Disneyland doing this doesn’t make a difference as you mentioned. It’s just all for show and out of fear of bad press like so many other things going on at the park right now.
Disneyland is also a place that fakes materials all of the time.
This is not the first use of artificial softscape. Are the other materials that are fake that you are referring to alive? A fake brick and fake grass are two different things.
This is not the first use of artificial softscape.
I believe the entire new park area in the new Toon Town will be artificial grass. I remember all the service dog park areas are artificial. There isn't much real grass used in Disneyland. It's all planters. No it’s not. The one that I’ve always noticed is the very tiny patch in the Tea Cups queue which never bothered me as it’s extremely small. But for a larger very visible planter in Town Square/ Turn of the century Main Street off a main walkway? Yeah I hope it’s not a trend. Or that it’s just a temporary measure during the the drought. But even if/ when California gets out of a drought I could see them keeping the cost effective fake grass.
What other highly visible planters or areas of the park have artificial grass? I can’t think of one
