You’re complaining about something you also say you don’t care about. It’s one or the other.

But I’m not complaining that I want to see myself represented. I’m not even complaining really. Just stating an observation which is that Disneys social media posts seem to disproportionately include certain demographics in their advertisements. It doesn’t come across as genuine. It comes across as pandering. It’s like I can see the discussion they re having at the office with every post as it’s that repetitive… or at least the stuff that ends up on my feeds are. That is all. I have no problem with Gay or Black people. We get along just fine.

The real question is why would seeing more inclusion bother anyone?

It really seems like it specifically bothers straight, white, cis-men, who somehow interpret more inclusion of others as them losing out on... something?

To any straight white cis-male in here, I promise, you will survive.

There is room for everyone.

Lol why is it not possible to have this conversation without everyone coming to this conclusion? Something about every post showcasing the smallest minorities that visit Disney parks just doesn’t come across as authentic to me. I’m kind of a sticker for authenticity and accuracy. For example, Coco, PatF and Encanto- I love all these movies. The thought of a Black Ariel or whatever ethnicity that new live action Snow White is? Not so much.

You started this suspicious conversation lol. But isn’t that what you’re complaining about? Too many gays and blacks in DL ads, no?

Lol. That doesn't paint the whole picture now does it? It also insinuates my issue is with the people in those pics when it is not. But you already knew that.

Ok whatever you say
If I said there was too much half Italian half Jordanian representation in the parks, would it be so easy to brush off? Would you accept it if I said "woah woah I was just asking a question" and be totally fine with it?

Maybe you wouldn't personally care, and ok, fine. There isn't a direct history of persecution of people who are Italian AND Jordanian, after all.

But if there was? And if said discrimination was pretty transparently on the up tic in our society?

Would there not be people upset and frustrated by my remarks, even if that person who was upset was not you specifically?

I should have mentioned people of color and not just black people, since you mentioned other races, too.

I mean, yeah. Your post does, in some way, make you sound intolerable/bigoted. Not saying that you are, I don’t know you personally like that. I think your concerns are a bit…strange, I guess? But not at all surprising either.

Surely, you predicted the response you’re getting?

Saying too much representation in the parks and too much representation in the ads are two different things.

Yeah I guess I did. But I’m not trolling. I just had a thought when checking out my Instagram feed and posted it over here on the Misc. thought thread. Again, they’re not “concerns.” They re observations. You could maybe call it a minor turn off for a couple seconds because they come across as repetitive, inauthentic and inaccurate at least at the proportion they are represented in the ads.

Look if 70% of NBA commercials or ads showcased the White players that would be weird to me too.

I guess the part that is silly is posting something when you know that it will only bring forth a discussion that will be negative and drain you of your energy. And it’s not like I have nothing to do. Schools out and the kids are home. So with that I say to all my Gays and Blacks I hope to see you at the park this Saturday. Namaste.

I think it's an interesting thought. Black people are 14% of the population, so should they get 14% of ads? But then you have to think about doing some correction since they have been disenfranchised to make up the wrong. Let's say double, black people get 28% of the ads then.

BUT now there's the other ethnic minorities that need to have air time as well. What percent do they get then? And then whites will obviously see the most decrease as they are the majority. And then how do interracial commercials factor in.

As a white person, it doesn't bother me that minorities are receiving more air time, good for them.

It's a question of balancing plus "righting wrongs".

What would a genuine DLR ad with people of color and gay people look like to you? I’m curious. Or are you just saying that the majority of the ads should have straight, white couples?

Just making sure I’m understanding you.

1. Just curious - do you get perceived by others as being white?

2. I would bet that the Marketing division has parsed this down to a fare-thee-well as to what representation will get them more money.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is why we can’t say Ladies and Gentlemen at Disneyland anymore. Demi Lovato is “they” now. She’s two genders and I guess 2 people. Why is Disneyland abandoning an innocent greeting that applies to 99.9% of people to cater to a small percentage of mentally ill people?
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you’ve changed since then. But just to be honest it’s easy to see why people have jumped to the worst conclusions. I think there’s actually a good discussion to be had about insincere marketing.

Well I think both things are true. I stand by what I said in that post and about Demi Lovato…and there is a good discussion to be had about insincere marketing.
